This video shows how to install cheap universal chainring. The bike's original ring was lost or broke and the trousers were quite often caught by chainring. The ring itself was less than 3quid.
During making this video I realised that the bike is around 25y old.

I've just installed something similar and wanted to check I hadn't missed anything. Thanks for the rubber washer tip and also confirming that the plastic cap is... Crap. ;-)

They should make a dork disc plastic for the front. It'll give aero marginal gains too.

My plastic cap that goes in the centre has broken but the chain guard is fine. Do you know what I would type in a google search to get a replacement please? Chain guard cap maybe, or bolt?

Hi, Tbh. I would not bother getting replacement. I would possibly find a matching bottle cap and use hot glue gun to fix it if needed. Best regards SMI

Hi, This "No-name" the cheapest I could find on eBay. The description says "Chain-wheel Protector Protective Cover Bike Chain Ring Guard 42T 44T 46T LY" and the price was below £3. Best regards SMI

Hey sir , I wonder that you'll have to cut that black cap which is attached to crank arm bolt in order to fit it?

Hi, No I did not have to cut anything. Nothing else was done off the camera to make it suit. I lost the cap since then so, I would recomend to use some silicone to hold it in place. Best regards SMI

Hi, I can not guarntee that but I think it should work as it is mounted on a shaft and not attached to the gera ring. Regards

That is protective cover for chain. Prevents trausers from damage. Best regards SMI

you caused me to get scamed, you did it so fast i didn't see you cut and put that screw in to hold it in place, then i got one and it didn't go on our work at all it make me get so frustrated when it fell off I left it on the side of the road, the bolt was plastic and your choice of theme music is atrocious

Sorry to hear that. When playing with mechanical things you really need to be careful and have confidence and experience to do it. I'll take your comment regarding music under the consideration. You really should not leave rubbish on the side of the road. Best of luck for the future. SMI
