Recently, social media has been flooded with memes featuring PM Modi and PM Meloni, tagged Melodi. This trend spiked after PM Modi flew to Puglia, Italy, on 13th June 2024 to represent India at the 50th G7 Summit, invited by PM Meloni as his first post-election responsibility.
The G7 Summit is a meeting of seven major developed countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union also participates but isn't individually specified. Although other countries aren't members, the host country invites non-member nations to strengthen ties and form alliances.
During this G7 Summit, US President Joe Biden had a few embarrassing moments. These incidents went viral, prompting people to question Biden’s mental well-being and cognitive stability. Let's take a look at these moments:
Biden Salutes PM Meloni
While PM Meloni was officially welcoming world leaders at the G7 podium, Biden saluted her after their conversation before stepping down to sign the G7 book. The incident was caught on camera, and both reporters and the public joked about whether Meloni had joined the US Army.
Biden Wanders Off
During the G7’s Skydiving and Parachute show, Biden walked in the opposite direction from the group of world leaders, talking and gesturing to no one. PM Meloni politely approached him, turned him around, and pointed him towards the reporters and photographers for a group photo. However, Biden maintained a blank look and abruptly wore his sunglasses a few seconds later.
Biden Salutes Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy
While entering the summit’s round table conference room, Biden saluted Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It is unclear if Zelenskyy returned the salute. In the US, it is not customary for the President to salute other world leaders, as the President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
Biden Freezes During Juneteenth Celebrations
Before the G7 Summit, Biden froze during the Juneteenth celebrations at the White House on the evening of 10th June 2024 while everyone else was clapping and dancing to the music. An African American man next to Biden noticed his unusual pause, wrapped his arm around him, and started a conversation to help. Later, Biden’s speech became slurred while addressing the crowd.
Biden Fumbles for Seat at France Event
At the D-Day celebration in Normandy, France, Biden was one of the guests. After stepping onto the stage and shaking hands with French President Emmanuel Macron, Biden was seen grasping for his chair despite others remaining standing for France’s national anthem. His wife, Jill Biden, discreetly reminded him not to sit yet. Later, Biden appeared lost and had to be guided by a handler.
Biden’s presidential opponent and former US President Donald Trump questioned Biden’s mental acuity and suggested he take a cognitive test. Trump criticized Biden's behavior during the summit and other events.
Jill Biden, however, stated that her husband is fully healthy and capable of serving as the USA’s president for a second term.
