President Biden on Friday awarded the Medal of Honor to retired U.S. Army Colonel Paris Davis, one of the first Black officers in the Green Berets, for his heroism during the Vietnam War nearly 60 years ago. "This may be the most consequential day since I've been president," Mr. Biden said. "This is an incredible man."

LtG Davis was my Bn Commander in 10th SFG. One of the troops kind of guy. He never looked down on anyone because of their rank or position. He never asked anyone to do anything he wasn't doing. He could box, and if you challeged him he'd meet you at the gym and put the gloves on. He was always looking out after his troops.

Very cool and long overdue. Really happy he's getting the recognition he deserves. On March 5, 1966 a cousin on my wife's side was killed in Vietnam and was a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor. He was 22 years old.

My father & I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. several years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in the late 1960s & he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home & received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names & where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, & live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.

Seeing President Biden honor Col. Davis for his heroic actions nearly 60 years ago should not be taken lightly but rather very seriously. People say leaders in this country who are Bidens age are out of touch with today's world when in fact it is the younger generation who is out of touch with their world. There is so much more that we can learn from them than they can learn from us. The future of this nation is very much dependent on knowing our past successes as well as our failures. I hope one day soon that honesty and accountability take the place of fame and fortune in our society so we can work together towards a better future for this nation.

160 years ago, today, with the Civil War raging, Congress created the Medal of Honor as a permanent award. Today it is properly awarded to a man who was delayed by the very racism that war was born of. Col. Davis is properly recognized for his gallantry, much much too late because of racist persons who 'lost' the paperwork. Finally, though, justice has prevailed and he has lived to see it. A good thing. Thank you for being a great American, Col. Davis.

Some supporters of Col. Paris argue that racism explains the Army's loss of his two MOH award recommendation packages. This theory is refuted by the story of the Black Horse Riders of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment who finally received their Presidential Unit citation and other combat decorations from President Obama for heroic service in Vietnam combat. Military historian Keith Nolan stumbled across a sealed box containing decoration recommendations for this unit in a National Archives decades after they were submitted. The cause of both SNAFUS was Army and DOD incompetence and disinterest.

Am I color blind or something. As a veteran we don't see our brothers and sisters with anything but. Green . Everything has to be about race with this president. Col Paris Davis was not the one who made it about race. He was a black Captain of an all white team. His Medal of Honor was submitted twice and somehow inadvertently got "lost" twice and not corrected until now. So, no, it wasn't him who made it about race. It was all the others who denied him the honor that was rightfully his.

What a strong, dedicated warrior!!! God bless. I am bewildered and disgusted to hear Biden speak about a wounded man refuse to leave his fellow warriors behind in such a terrifying situation. Instantly I felt so uncomfortable with Biden who not only left Americans behind in Afghanistan, and desperate Afghanis clinging to the plane and falling to their deaths- then proclaimed this great success.
