Stunt doubles were hired for the piano scene, but Hanks and Loggia managed to perform it themselves. The scene was choreographed by Paula Abdul.

I have to say, watching it again after having kids, this movie falls much closer to the "psychological horror" category then when I watched it as a kid (those poor parents!). At least it is a rare example of a movie in this genre that actually shows glimpses of the impact it has on people around him (that poor 'girlfriend' is gonna have some unique talking points with her court-appointed therapist).

"13 Going on 30" has a very disturbing concept. In "Big", the Hanks character doesn't loose any time. He just wakes up the next day and is grown up. In "13 Going on 30", the main character wakes up and 17 years have past. She has lived those 17 years, but she doesn't remember them. It is super messed up when you think about it.

Wow, haven't seen "Big" in years but it still holds up all these years later. I'm from New York and for years after people would go to FAO Swartz toy store and play on those keyboards. The store is now located in Rockefeller Center. Trivia: as a teen I worked at the Playland in Rye, New York, the amusement park with the boardwalk. This park was also featured in "Fatal Attraction" and Mariah Carey's music video "Fantasy" featuring rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard. "Big" was the first and best of the body swap movies of the '80's.

Man, I first remember seeing Tom Hanks in an ABC sitcom called 'Bosom Buddies' (opening: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3UI_JwF3cnA.html ) from the early 80's. He transitioned to comedy movies (like Splash and Bachelor Party). I think 'Big' was the first time he received some critical acclaim. And every once in a while I am reminded of the incredible amount of talent that passed through the ABC sitcoms of the 70's and early 80's. We had shows like Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, Bosom Buddies, and Taxi that gave us stars like Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Penny Marshall (who directed 'Big'), Michael Mckean, Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Andy Kaufman, Christopher Lloyd and Danny DeVito. (phew!)

The piano scene was real, the creator of the piano actually built a larger one the the one in the store so they could play the song which required 3 octaves to play. The actors practiced for 3 months and on the day of shooting dismissed the dancers that had been hired to perform it and did it themselves in one take. The original piano was still in the FAO Schwarz store until it closed in 2015. Penny Marshall videotaped David Moscow, the actor who played kid Josh, acting out all of the adult Josh scenes so that Hanks could study his mannerisms in each situation. That way he could mimic how a kid would act in the same situation and how he was able to seem like a kid so well. This was actually the same age swap movie that came out that year, which upset Penny Marshall because when she agreed to direct the movie she thought it was a unique idea.

You’re wrong about the Social Security thing. I was super broke my first couple of years in college and couldn’t pay my utility bills all the time. Every time they turned off the power or whatever, I would call the company to set up a new account and switch 2 of the numbers of my social security number (so instead of 123 it’s132) and bam! Power back on. It wasn’t as easy to check that kind of stuff back then and could be attributed employee error if anyone ever cheked on it. I finally got a better job and didn’t have to do that again. It definitely wouldn’t work today.
