I moved from Big 4 to Mid Tier and I found the workload to be more manageable. Tbh the Big 4 is not for everyone. I feel like Big 4 is only good for type A personalities with strong resilience to stress and you know what you want to specialise in. If you want a more supportive environment and a more well rounded learning experience, you may find mid tier to be a better fit for you.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've heard of quite a few people moving into 'Mid Tier' firms and finding it a more well rounded learning experience - a common theme!
For me, I'd prefer to work at a mid-tier firm. I enjoy being mentally stimulated, which the mid-tier firms can achieve more so. Also it just seems to me that the big four has more of a "corporate cringe" feeling to them.
I went the BIG 4 route, and on reflection, I wish I went mid-tier - I think it would have suited me a bit better, and I agree on the 'corporate cringe'!
Great video James, I appreciate the emphasis on what's right for each individual vs. what's 'better'. What you say about mindset is true for life in general I think...things are often only an issue if you believe they are and ruminate on them. Comments about wellbeing remind me of the meme with employees begging for more humane hours, childcare support etc. and the response being - 'here's a mindfulness webinar!' Will be interesting to see how things develop as 'prestige' potentially becomes less of a selling point for graduates.
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! It will definitely be interesting - Over the next decade there will be some fundamental shifts in the accounting industry, for one the 'prestige' of the BIG 4 will 100% fall, when is the question!
