that is nice, first heard the crass farm around 90,still have all my records, they will change your life........................watch and see, what you think next/..48 and drunk
Still playing this to my politics students when it comes to teaching Anarchism. When I first heard this as a 14/15 year old it felt like common sense that was being sung about...it also felt a little dangerous but no regrets. It definitely gave me a heads up about the real state of the world we live in.
@@franny231123DMT I struggle to keep neutral in the classroom to let the kids make up their own minds. Personally and privately I am more anti government with every passing day.
Steve Ignorant's a lifeboat crewman near Norwich now. Fitting occupation, was a good man back then and he is now. Man with a conscience. Big respect from me.
Not to take anything away from a true punk rock classic, but this is a great tune to sing to my newborn son! HE digs the bouncy tempo and the funny faces and voices that I make while singing it! It's brilliant! WHo knew?! Maybe Crass can do a reunion tour AND a kids record!
These lyrics seem more uplifting now than they ever have. To live your life with your own strong convictions and still strive to live in peace with every aspect of the human experience regardless of how difficult the conversation may be. Invalidation of an individuals experience is what leads to violent radical politics, right or left, that only seek to destroy rather than build and connect. Anarchism starts in the mind and peace is how you should strive to express it. 🙏🏾✌🏾✊🏾
Anarchy without peace is just seizure of power. More "aNaRcHiStS" need to wake up and understand this. No one overthrows power just to give it all away.
Deffo, heard this on radio 6,of all places.First time in years and been playing it everyday since.I went to see Crass and The Poison Girls at Bearsden Town hall in 1979 but the police raided it and shut it down before Crass came on.A copper actually spat in my face that night, further away from the venue, when the crowd had dispersed."That's punk!!"Absolute bastard.✌️
I am from Norway. I had the same problem as you Marian, even though I have lived in Canada 1 year and in Minneapolis from 1990 - 1994. But the thing that makes it difficult to understand is Steve Ignorant´s brilliant accent. And the best thing about Crass is their lyrics. I was a speed junky from 1990 - 2006. I loved listening to Crass then and other Anarcro- & Oi Punk. I haven´t touched Speed since March 13th, 2006 (I got sick and tired of it), but every time I listen to Crass, I feel cranked out of my fucking mind again, even though I am totally clean. My religion is Anarcro-, Oi Punk and Liverpool FC. When I was 16 years old, I travelled from Norway - Brussels to watch the European Cup Final between Liverpool - Juventus 0-1. Before the match started there were 39 dead people lying around the stadium. We didn´t have mobile phones back them, and I couldn´t afford calling my parents from a pay phone. My parents were very happy when I came home.
There is not a single person in the world who can sing his lyrics so fast as Steve Ignorant. I am singing his songs for over forty years and there are a couple that I still have problems keeping up with. Like some parts of Big A little A. He is my all time favorite guy ❤❤❤
A Fackin Lav this tune, My dad was a 12 monther during the miners strike ! He with help from family and good friends Stood his ground against the system ! It was a legal strike against control of the system ! A Lot of people dont realize the significance of that Stand. that humanity made ! Stay strong ! I watched the very last show at the shepherds boosh emporium ! standing next to the families of Crass ! Fantastico gig !
Completely with you on that one as I too was a 12 monther on strike,, fuck the system and fuck the cunt's who think they're in charge, they haven't got my mind or soul and NEVER will have.
@@anthonydyson5455 Well done m8, it was people vs system, if more people had realizred that trhen we would have had a far better country than we do now ;)
nearly 30 years ago i bought this single it's in my loft now immaculate in condition, and i still love it as much as i did when i first bought it. The words are as powerful and right more than ever today.
Hey Davy Ro, in my "Believe it or Not" bin of stories, I had a punk flyer for a gig that was to be played in 83. It was a CRASS gig with G.B.H scheduled for L.A. California that summer. Here's the short end of the shit stick; the U.S. turned down their visas because they were anarchists. Like PiL sings, "Disappointed;" definitely was shit. Peace, cheers.
it's sad that crass's messages are so relevant today but as far as popularity goes they're irrelevant. :( I feel like there message may me more prevalent today than back then sadly
Squigin. Great comments. There's still much wrong with society, but what has always bothered me was 'come the revolution' what do we do with all the violent criminals who would only take advantage of our dream society. Also where are the people who are strong enough to stand up and make a statement. A retweet is as far as it goes. In the 80's we had riots. Although so many mistakes were made, at least the powers at be took notice.
Thanks for including the lyrics for this great record. Steve speaks so fast that it is sometimes hard to catch everything. I bought this single when it first came out and would say it is my favourite by Crass.
***** Hey Jane. I've only just seen this message. I've tried to add you back or include in circles. I can't get to grips with youtube since google fucked with it. Let me know if you see me in your circles and if I'm not there explain how to do it.
***** No I'm English. The icon on my channel is me with the guitar and a number of Latvian acquaintances on the roof of a car singing "Down in the Tube Station" about 5am on a Sunday morning after about 2 days on the sesh. I had long hair then but now its short.
There will never be anything as good as Crass. Then you have to believe in reincarnation, which I don´t. In my younger days when everyday was a party for 16 years, I was clinical dead twice. Both times everything was black. I didn´t see St. Peter & I didn´t see Lucifer. According to the bible Jesus woke of from the from the dead once. I beat him. I woke up from the dead twice. My religion is Liverpool FC & Anarcro- & Oi Punk. But I respect other people´s opinion about religion. Cheers from Norway mate.
"if you dont like the life you live, change it now its yours" so i bought myself a boat to live on and all my electricity comes from solar panels instead of paying some millionaire for the privilege
Had to comment as I've been listening to Crass since 1979 and have recently done precisely that... Narrowboat with solar, no more electric bills. Or gas bills. Or council tax.
*double thumbs up* been at that game myself for about thirteen years. how is that most sinister of 'charities' the canals and rivers trust treating you?
I saw them play in Todmorden, Yorkshire, around 1980. Superb. Still play them nowadays. Seems to me that their ideology is even more relevant in 2019. Same, in a way with Bad Brains. Anarchy And Peace For All. Ed. X.
I remember when this video was like a month old... forgot all about it after like a year, stumbled upon my old account through a comment on a video and found it in a playlist. Still a great song today!!
The crass it's been yrs since I've played this. Bk in London 76 /77 best days of.my life hanging out at forest hill and the wardolth rd bromley my father worked for the g l c and every Sunday I would go with him to his works just outside the iron gates was the archies where the market barrows would end up after market days but being the right age for something new to break the endless days of boredom the sound of live music so being noise and telling my dad I just going to sweatshop. I went over
yeah, brother. grew up in Pittsburgh, usa. my old man was an IWW printer for Westinghouse. i remember at least three strikes in the seventies and early eighties. we were on the dole the whole while. third one was big- nine months- but the union won out. and then came reagan and broke the union's back. got laid off less than two years before retirement. Westinghouse lost a lawsuit ordering them to pay my dad's whole division full pension equivalent. they appeal and appeal. by the time it's settled, my old man will be dead. probably my mum, too. fuckers. united and strong, brother! we go to war and work the same way: totally and with love. rise above!
I still 100% agree with these lyrics 4 decades later. Who could have known they would be even more relevant in 2022. I take great pride in the fact that my 25 year old ex babysitee has turned out with a punk as f*** attitude. I just introduced her to this and she loves it. That's my girl! Will get this played at my funeral and have everyone given a printed lyric sheet. Still f***ing the system in 2022.
