Highlights from stage 14 of the Tour de France 2023. The first big Alpine challenge of this year's race is a 151.8km stage from Annemasse to Morzine. The day's major challenges come in the form of the Col de la Ramaz (13.9km at 7.1%) and Col de Joux Plane (11.6km at 8.5%) - the latter awarding bonus seconds at the summit - before a 12km descent to the line.

Too many people on the road and the riders can’t even overtake a filming motorcycle. Absolute disgrace. Tdf needs to give riders more space especially on these climbs.

I was there today (did 150km to go see the stage) It’s getting too big. There were hundreds of cars. Sometimes the convoy would grind to a complete halt. The stages finish too late too. Cycling being a mainstream sport in France means you get far, drunken oafs in the road.

Respect to Adrien Petit for finishing the stage just within the time limit despite his nasty injury from the mass crash! 👍 When he was dropped from the peloton as the first rider on the early cat 3 climb, I didn't expect him to make it to the finish in time.

While i agree it's very wrong. I think they were making space for the riders from the fans. In the future these kind of mountain stages should have better fences and spacing for the riders so the fans wont get too much into the way.

@@Jtc00 No they were playing domestiques at an part where there were not that many fans. And the organizers didn't like it. Both were fined 500 CHF and expelled for the next stage. Fun side note Vingegaard got fined 200 CHF for something hilarious.

I agree with you the fans are blocking too much of the roads and its sadly getting a daily thing. The riders almost have to wait doing their attacks because they can't do it because of the fans almost covering the whole road today. I don't remember it ever has been so bad before but nowadays fans are standing in middle of the roads instead of the side of the road. We've seen 3 insidens now with flags almost causing crashes 1 of them did course a crash. And now this with pog getting blocked by a motorbike im a fan of Jonas but to see motorbikes blocking Pog attack is not what anyone wants to see.

@@AH-df3rc Blocking fans and motorcycles are old phenomenons. That's why they fence off classic hills like Koppenberg (Ronde van Vlaanderen) or Keutenberg (Amstel Gold Race). Sprint finishes deserve double fences like in the World Championships Cyclocross 2023. A photographing policeman (1994 crash Nelissen/Jalabert) or spectator (1999 Alpe d'Huez Guerini) will less likely knock off a rider. Running drunken fans who fall and block a motorbike are also less likely (2016 Ventoux: Porte, Mollema, Froome ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-39oWOONz_0E.html )

The fans should not be allowed to get that close to the riders. The motorbikes shouldn't be forced to stop b/c of fans standing in the road. The Tour de France needs to do something.

The weather was ag Giro, its true, but what we've been watching on these stages at Tour proves once again that not only for harder mountains but also when it comes to organization no race else can come close to Giro d'Italia, TdF comprehensive. At the end of the day the italian stages race is the best organized in the world, many clueless people mainly from speaking english countries need to face it !!

Yes the bikes blocked him & had some mental damage on him, he did not give up after attacking on top of the climb but the JV Jonas didn't give up. Jonas never seems to work with Pog no matter what, great performance from Jonas & JV train, but my hopes are still with Pog Team

WVA is more complete in road cycling, but MVDP proved this year again that he is better in monuments. MVDP wins the big stuff, while WVA is pretty much always there, but rarely wins the big stuff Who’s better depends on the criteria you use - i.e., it’s debatable who is better Either way, they, the riders you named, are all incredible and make for a great show and that’s all that matters in the end

It wasn't great that the always enthusiast spectators blocked the road - as usual - but surely Pogi could see what was right in front of him, he must have been able to see that the road was clogged and that the motorcycles had nowhere to go!? Take a look, as soon as Pog got blocked he and Jonas spoke. Then when Jonas took off Pog was totally surprised, and he had just been riding tempo. I can add 2 and 2. They made an agreement which Jonas broke. That's why! Jonas deserves whats coming to him for that. Jaques Anquetil famously coined it to Tom Simpson, "The penny has 2 faces". Simpson learned the hard way.

Vinegar was given those points courtesy of motorbikes, and doing the dirty on Pog! Here's the thing, when Pog got blocked, you see he and Vinegar talk, then Pog just does tempo, not even looking around as you normally would with such important points on offer. He was totally surprised when Vinegar took off, and it's clear how much faster he is than Vinegar. Did they have an agreement that Vinegar broke, only they know, but if so i can guarantee Pog will stitch him up for that. Vinegar didn't gain seconds, they were taken from Pog.

his name is vingegaard, and when vingegaard attack it was several minuttes after what happend with the motorbikes so that should't be a reason for pog not being able to follow vingegaard in that attack, vingegaard just attacked at the right moment. you still miss one point in all that from when pog was ahead and until vingegaard catches him again vingegaard is the one driving the fastest or he wouldn't be able to catch pog again. they both very very good and at this point Pog does look very strong agree but don't forget last year it was the 3rd week were vingegaard really begain to find speed. last year pog was the one in the yellow jersey. They both have gained strength and I honestly can't call anything at this point but one thing is clear don't underestimate anyone of thouse 2.

We can't give in to emotional knee-jerk decisions in these situations. By doing what you propose, there would be riders who would be denied a chance to display their skills in descent.

When Vingegaard caught up with Pogacar, he must have followed from a distance and tried to buy more time from him instead of fighting for the bonus in the Port. He was coming with the speed to pass him. He should have taken risks and not been so methodical... If the bike had been an important factor... Pogacar would have had the legs to win the bonus. There have been worse interruptions. One of the motorcycles makes a mistake but it cannot run over people who do not allow way. Better a bitter pill for Pogacar than an accident. It is to improve but it was not a catastrophe like in Mont Ventoux with Froome. Pogacar benefited from a car in Amstel Gold, it was not his responsibility but sometimes the organization hurts you and other times it benefits you. The best: the way in which Carlos Rodríguez answered the traitors of Ineos with Pidcock's position. Hindley to recover tomorrow or that he says goodbye to fighting for the podium since he is a regular time trialist.

Jonas is having the time lead, that wouldn’t be a good idea. Imagine he gets drop by pog while attacking, that would be disastrous. Smart strategy would be to tailgate and draft Pog all the way and make sure he doesn’t run away.

Since Jonas is in the lead he has to play defensively to just sit on Pogacar's tail and not lose it. If he attacks but tires himself out and Pogacar counter-attacks Jonas which can lead to Jonas losing more time and the yellow jersey. Not smart move. @@SONA7DO Tailgating is a good strategy when you have a comfortable lead not 10 secs, don’t forget there are bonus seconds. Pogi is more of an explosive climber than Jonas, he can easily win a mountain sprint vs Jonas. Imagine if the motorbikes didn’t block pogi? TJV needs to use same tactics as last year with Roglic. Attack then maintain a high pace especially in long climbs.

@@phineasjonas9976 last year Jonas won the TT against Pogacar, and on the TT pog can't use his explosivity. and Jonas did win the important bonus sprint today which gained him the 1 second. honestly Jonas is looking better every day first day he lost several seconds to pog yesterday 4-5 seconds today he gained 1 second. so as for this moment this might aswell be a race down to seconds when we head paris.

Pogacar messed up the tactics, he should have taken the bonus Point at the summit and then out sprint Vin at the finish line in order to cut the lead to 1s. Pog is stronger than Vin but Jumbo Visma have strength in numbers
