You have no idea how in lust every man of this era was with Milla Jovovich. My favorte part was probably all of Odman's scenes. Loved all the characters except Chris Tucker's character.
The criminal's hat you commented about was a picture of the hallway which made it look like no one was in the hallway when someone looks through the door cam.
For me the Singer was great (She is part syth but since a singer has pulled it off) Another underrated Bruce W. film with the same kind of feel is Hudson Hawk. Most focus on the Die Hard films but I do prefer his films with a bit more comedy and would also add Red to that list. BTW some releases of RED has a commentary track with cool insights from a real life former CIA guy that advised that one. Also will mention in Hudson Hawk one of the actors may look familiar but not quite, it is the brother of Sylvester Stallone of Rocky and Rambo fame. Sylvester S. like Bruce has done a few underrated comedies I like more than his main roles with my favorite set in the 1920's-30's called Oscar (One warning make sure with Oscar you don't get up or leave for anything as you will loose track of the plots). Growing up I watched Bruce before his movie fame. Bruce did a TV show called Moonlighting that was a bit of a detective series with some comedy and romance tossed in. Two other series with the same feel to Moonlighting was Remington Steele (Staring future Bond Pierce B.) and Scarecrow and Mrs. King (Staring Bruce Boxlightner also known for Babylon 5 and Gambler movies). Pick what rabbit holes you want to go down but you asked for some related type material and think you might enjoy some of them. (Babylon 5 is another style but needs watched as one big story with each show a page in a chapter and season or film a chapter)
Something a lot of people tend to miss I’ve noticed is the reason the cops thought he was a car thief was because he ripped out the computer thing that kept telling him how many points he had left.
I think the most amazing thing is that this film, Chris Tucker, Milla Jovovich, and director Luc Besson were all nominated for both best and worst film, supporting actor, supporting actress and director respectively across many awards (along with many other "best" awards)! There was a real love-hate relationship with critics at the time of its release. An iconic film as far as I'm concerned with so much fun, and personality packed into its run time!
@@davidbergfors6820 in fact he "borrowed" ideas from Moebuis, Jean-Claude Mézières, John Carpenter.....he is known for stealing other people's ideas, taking advantage of his notoriety for relation with young women, numerous rape accusations....
He's done some small stuff since Valerian but it was his last big film. There are two in development, though, a sequel to Lucy and something called "Dracula: A Love Tale". Worth noting that there was a rape allegation against Besson in 2018, dropped in 2019, reinvestigated, and dismissed in 2021. It's likely any big money projects were cancelled or at least put on hold throughout that.
Great first movie to start with. It's a really fun colorful movie, cheesy but in really great ways. So happy you enjoyed it! Can't wait to see your next reactions!
Always did like this movie, glad you got to watch it and a good reaction... also there's a cool picture where it's Milla in one and her daughter in the other recreating her " Leeloo Dallas Mulitipass" pic, and they look so much alike
12:38 The score is by Eric Serra and it's amazing! I like to write and this scene in particular, where Leeloo steps out and sees what she's surrounded by, is backed by an incredible song. So I bought the soundtrack and I love to listen to it while I write, and that song always reminds me of that scene👌Yeah this has probably been my favorite movie for close to twenty years now, it's so good.
It really is!! I think that was my favourite song in the soundtrack, along with the opera section. They are both incredible songs! I didn't expect to love the soundtrack so much honestly!
@@Kageric It’s one of a very few scores I enjoy enough/in a way that I can actually listen to it on its own. I appreciate plenty other scores, like anything by Zimmerman is going to be great but I can’t usually enjoy them outside the movie. Bought the CD after seeing it in theaters and still listen to the score sometimes.
40:49 I love this moment! 50:33 so you could almost say that the fifth element was, Love! Luc Besson was inspired by French Sci-fi comics when devising the story of this movie, and 20 years later he would adapt one of those stories that inspired him into another awesome Sci-Fi film: Valerian and the City of a thousand planets, The metal aliens in the beginning of this film makes an appearance in that one too! I would Highly recommend that one, I saw it in the theatre twice!
5th Element is just… it really does feel like it could only be French Sci-fi, haha. After loving 5th Element as much as I did since it came out, I was excited about Valerian… and pretty disappointed that it didn’t work nearly as well for me for some reason. It’s still good, just can’t come close to this one for never getting old. I’ve also had good odds with others I introduce to 5th Element liking it (though it’s polarizing) but Valerian is… a bit more hit or miss.
Kage reacting to Fifth Element? This is quite refreshing to watch. Additionally that you had no clue where the pop culture reference " Big Bada Boom" came from for all those years... :D
35:50 The first half of that opera is a normal one. But the second half was composed on a computer intending that no human could sing it. But people soon did and you can listen to them singing it in front of an audience on youtube. The most popular version was sung by Dimash.
@@Kageric You may want to consider reacting to music videos. Reactors to Dimash typically get tens of thousands of views. You can start with this cover of the 5th Element Diva song.
I actually know a bunch of the people who started or worked at Bioware (we ran with the same crowd back in the day), and I can say that this movie was well loved by that crowd. I am sure there was some influences, subconscious or not, for the Asari.
This post just popped up on my feed so I gave it a watch. I was really impressed that this is your first movie reaction because you're much more comfortable (and funny) than most newbies. I'm glad to sub and hoping you do many more. Cheers from Florida.
Thank you so much! And a huge welcome to the channel! I've streamed on Twitch for a while so that probably helped me feel more comfortable when reacting
Holy!! That's legendary, thank you so much for the support and lovely comment! I hope you ended up getting your coffee! That's what I'm drinking right now
That was really fun to watch Kage! I haven't been to Twitch for a while but it's awesome to see you! It was one of my favorite childhood movies and I absolutely love it, and I loved to see you enjoy it too
Fun reaction, so much of this movie is well done i can't pick a favorite part. The language Leeloo speaks was invented by Leeloo and the director and has 400 words. I recommend you watch "Heavy Metal" (1981) I'd love to see your reaction but it will be a copyright nightmare due to the music I'm guessing.
I'll note Heavy Metal down, thank you for the suggestion! The language was so interesting to me, it's cool that they actually invented that for the film!
"I don't know if I'm saying her name right" - Her last name starts with a "yo" sound, not "jo", despite the spelling. Aside from that you've got it right.
I loved your fallout reactions, and seeing you picked up this gem of a movie - an obvious watch for me, really enjoyed watching you introduce yourself to The Fifth Element. This was fun.
The language was written by the director, he and Milla could have conversations with it. She actually did bang her head in the reactor scene. The diva was the director's future ex wife, Milla was his future wife. Yes, a classic now and always fun to watch.
Luc Besson has done some extraordinary movies in many genres -- "Leon" (Crime) "Le Femme Nikita" (Spies) "The Messenger" (Joan of Arc) ""The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec" (A French Female Indiana Jones adventure) "Taken" (Action) "
Fun reaction, Kage! I watched this a ton as a teen, I think I was 12-13 when it came out. Chris Tucker absolutely killed it in his role as Ruby Rhod; great acting all around. If you haven't seen it, I'd suggest checking out 'Cube,' from 1997; it's a sci-fi horror/thriller. 'Stardust' is also great though it's in the fantasy genre and not sci-fi, but still a super fun adventure.
Great reaction. Love this movie seen it so many times. The language she speaks is also spoken by the Tall aliens at the start of Valarian and The City of A Thousand Panets, another movie by Luc Besson that you should check out.
This movie did not do all that well at the box office because the studio had no idea how to market it. It really took off when it hit the home video rental market.
Beeson has also done _Lucy_ and _Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets_. Some of design including costumes is from French cartoonists from magazines like Métal Hurant, such as Moebius.
That means a lot! Thank you so much! One day I'd like to try painting minis over on my Twitch/gaming RU-vid so you may actually have the opportunity to see me watch paint dry 🤣
This and Hudson Hawk is my two Bruce favorites with the two RED movies close behind. I like his funnier side you see hear and in Hudson Hawk Bruce does some singing. Enjoy.
I don't think the "big bada boom" comes from this movie, I remember hearing as early as the 1960s and for sure in the 1980s from Andrew Dice Clay. I think it's American Italian slang. What does big bada boom mean? Back in the day, before the 1990s Sopranos, before the 1972 film “The Godfather,” the 1958 Pat Cooper movie “The Italian Wedding,” used the remarkable phrase “Bada bing, bada boom,” meaning “Long story short” or “There you have it.” Bada bing bada boom is a popular East Coast slang phrase used to wrap up a story.
This is a great reaction. Your videos are always worth the wait. I do have a movie suggestion for Halloween, Tucker and Dale VS Evil, it's my favorite rom/com/horror movie. Hope you have a great day and I'll see you on your next live stream over on your gaming channel.
The whole visual aesthetic of this movie was done by Jean Paul Goatier. He was a VERY high name designer at the time. I don't know if he's done any other movies. This wasn't that big of a success at the time. It did quickly become a cult classic for a number of reasons, including Gary Oldman's reaction face close-up, or the insane opera scene. I worked in a TV store at the time, and used that scene on DVD to demo various TVs to customers.
Hello there, I enjoyed your reaction so much that I subscribed within the first 7 mins, looking forward to seeing more of your reactions, this is one of many fun movies of this era, please check out Stargate, Greetings and best wishes from Monterrey Mexico.
Thanks for the reaction, watched it almost 30 years ago. I don't have any real fun fact, but I enjoyed your reaction to it. I'll check around what else you have here. Have a nice day.
Originally, Milla Jovovich dyed her hair for the part of Leeloo; however, the strong bleaches needed began to damage her hair roots, and so the production switched to a wig.
14:10 I like to think that Leeloo's words, are a reference to the 1992-1998 science kid's show "Beakman's World", with the show's catch phrase "Bada-Bing, Bada-Bang, Bada-Boom".
