Your shop is nothing short of amazing!! I love how you don’t have to double check the measurements on your table fence. Your attention to detail is outstanding in every aspect.
router video? yes, yes, and yes! i have a router but i currently only have 4 bits. they are so expensive and the different types appear to be infinite. I would like to know more about the tool in general, best applications for use, and mostly the critical/necessary bits i need and will use the most vs the ones i can do without and pick up later
Love your videos - one tip from a woodworker learning about building sub boxes - When you used CA glue for the braces - one good tip is to use both CA glue and wood glue - you can use wood glue for most of the joint but leave a point on each end of the joint for CA glue. The CA glue acts as you wanted (quick solid connection when you didn't have a brad nail that would work), the CA glue then allows the wood glue to make an stronger bond for the remainder of the joint (with the CA glue acting as the brad or clamp as the wood glue dries).
I’d like to see that router video and maybe highlight what bits would be better for beginners to purchase because the cost of tools definitely adds up!
i have respect for the shallow woofers since i installed one shallow 12" in my 02 dodge ram quad cab. i will be using them more in the future for my other vehicles!💪
@@parkerprecision6675 you may be able to find the under seat speaker box on fb marketplace. they come in dual and single units. i have a single unit, so i have some interior storage. i have a shallow 12" kicker comp rt, run by an Alpine 500w amp and a 1 farad cap. i ruined it using the SMD DD1 and CC1
I have installed the JL Audio sub in my spare wheel(spare does not have extra holes, just the 5 and the center hole), that I have sealed the holes, with a rubber seal and an aluminum 6" "washer", all bolted down to the car. Placed an MDF over the wheel, made the cutout for the sub and the speaker terminals and strap it, with two ratcheting straps. It hits haaaard. Spare has well over 1.3 cu/ft.
I have to say that you have inspired me alot, I've been building my 3rd sub box now. And I can say that thanks to your videos, it turned out amazing. I am incredibly happy with the results and all the ideas you gave me, the how to only use simple tools only video gave me alot of help. Thanks!
I've had an idea for a while that I think would be the best of both worlds for someone who wants to ground pound, but still wants some cargo space. I'd like to see a "wall" of shallow mount subs, laid flat on the floor of an SUV. Maybe 4 or 6 subs in a "wall" configuration. Either 4th order bandpass, or down firing (more or less the same concept). I don't care to take credit for the idea, I just want to see someone do it. Since you have sponsorship, maybe suggest the idea to a sponsor, and maybe give us a video. Keep up the good work.
1. I'd LOVE to see you do a full Router vid. 2. Please do the wood inlay. That's something different than you've done in the past, which is always good! 3. Is that a new table saw setup? What table saw and vac system is that?
Mark, bring on that router table video. There are plenty of veneers you can use in that center piece. That’s up to you. I have seen this done in homes where the sub was made up to look like furniture. High end clients willing to pay for slick work. Your skills are right in line with that! Roll it!😊👍🏻
Great video man. I haven't watched your channel for a minute, and you've definitely improved your skills IMO. That's the most professionally built car subwoofer I've ever seen I think. Very impressive! ✌️
I take pride in my work area, I know it's not macho man dirty but I believe a clean well organized shop is usually a sign of caring about the results of the finished product.
I would like to see the router video. I plan on getting the Porter Cable router mentioned in one of your previous videos. I would definitely like to see some of the tricks and the bits that you use to fabricate your designs. Thanks for all of the incredible and helpful videos! Your videos are exactly what car audio fans are looking for..help and tips!
I'd be up for that router video. Just picked up a Bosche router with table but have yet to use it very much. Also any thoughts on a quick disconnect subwoofer? For example, I know several people who are hesitant on getting a sub installed as it takes up a permanent spot in their trunk. It would be awesome if there was a way to make a quick disconnect subwoofer that can be removed in seconds and without tools. This would be for people who have a limited trunk space but don't want to compromise for a sub, for say like a road trip or when they really need to use all of their trunk space Another video that might be great would be best ways to secure subs in the trunk, especially for people who don't want to drill a sub into their car or make any other permanent modification.
Love it, been thinking about building a box like this in my BMW F20 118D. Today i have a regular sealed wedge box (30L) with a Dayoton Titanic MK IV but i'm a bit afraid of damageing the sub when i put stuff in the trunk :)
I think the router video is a great idea. And if you do it. I think it would be a good idea to you use each type of bit, and show what it can do (what it looks like, and an example of a car audio use for it). So it's easy for everyone to understand what they all do. ✌️
You should design a good subwoofer box/setup for a Jeep TJ! the aftermarket community is lacking in that category but I feel a ported box for downfiring dual 10s would be awesome! SubThump has one but I feel they leave airspace to be desired in the height category. Wanting that low boomy bass for rap and such.
Great work as always. I was gonna bust your balls on using the miter sled and fence at the same time then noticed your little trick. Very nice! You show off good saw practice.
Could you include a video on how you decide on which router bit or profile you choose and how to properly set them up. Like how you make perfect round overs etc... that would be great.
Great video! Just wanted to ask, which wiring configuration are you using? I have two exact subs but 12” and just wanted to know how to wire them properly. I have a jl audio hd750/1 mono amp too
Brother.... What an excellent video! I guarantee you so many people learned some new techniques, as well as the right techniques, from your descriptions and work. Real quick, what bit that you used with your router to add some depth as you took away material for your speaker binding posts? Thanks in advance and can't wait till the next video!
I thought JL says the TW series isnt designed to play in a ported enclosure? Maybe that's just the TW5? But I was looking at the tw3 as well and all videos or forums where it was brought up always ended with JL professional or enthusiasts say don't. Either damage will be possible or they wont play to their potential. If not I'd love to see what you could do with a TW5 enclosure. :p I love mine and I'm tempted to get a second one but I'm trying to decide how I want to design the box to hide in my spare tire area. I wish I had a work shop like your to build in. You have some of the best builds and the tools that give you and edge are amazing. Cant like your vids enough.
Can you do a video on hard Corner consequences? I've never understood why we wanted to round. I have a pretty good idea but would like a clear concept. Thank you
Tht would be a good idea to show in wht all the bits of the rotor and how it works and I'm getting one soon and I wanna know witch ones I would use the most
I am going to build something very similar. First time builder and have watched loads of your excellent videos, very helpful and informative. You reccomend Titebond II however difficult to find where I live however I can get Gorilla Glue and Evostick wood glues. Just wondering which to but and for a project this size what quantity to buy. Thanks
me 2 brother ima big fan been watching your channel for years i was trying to see what brand is your plate earlier 😅 on a different video of yours but since you mentioned it yes i would love to see all those router tools
Great video, but can this work in a 2018 BMW 7 series with a Bowers & Wilkins factory sound system. Also, note that i have a spare tire package which i can remove to make more space. Thanks
How you calculationg how much dumping material put into the subwoofer enclosure ? And why you are not covering entire walls inside with it ? With be interesting to see video about it. Also wil be great to see your experience in calculating closed boxes volume. As example I have Audison APS10D and 15L closed box ( inside of the spare wheel ). But Audison recommend 10-12L boxes , however if I put paraments of the speaker in to online calculator , to get 10L Qtc have to be around 1.1 which I do believe is to high. What is your opinion? How sound of the subwoofer changed depend on volume of the closed box ( ported boxes is way more complex story to start with) With best regards /Andrew
Im sure there is a legit calculation to how much space. With that being said, ive had great results with 1/3 clearance. So a 10" would 3-1/3" off the floor, 12 would be 4" and so on. I mesure off of the surround.
I would like to see you do a sub enclosure for a 5th Gen 4Runner. Your layered box you made for the Jeep turned out great, but I wonder if you could show us another solution that may be different. I had a custom fiberglass box in my older 4Runner and loved it, but that was a long time ago. I'm curious about a setup with 3 or 4 8" woofers, or maybe using shallow mount 10's could leave you with more options to make a box that is better hidden.
Yes on router video, specifically flush trim bits please. Straight flute versus spiral, why and when to use one or the other, I've only been using straight. Also, what would you call that type of bit you used at 9:10?
I know this isn’t really your area but could you possibly do a center console build with speakers inside? I can’t find anything on making a custom console or any piece that’s as thorough as you.
Ive always pushed JLs all my live for the passed 18 years but right now im pushing 2 13.5 jlw3v4 what box and dimensions do you recommend. I would really appreciate it
Can you make a video on how to calculate air space and build a ported fiberglass enclosure? I have an 11 camaro ss and want to build a enclosure tucked into the side of the trunk space.
Tried cutting with my handheld router and a small bit yesterday, it jumped so much I used a chainsaw instead. I am serious. I need to get a Bosch jigsaw. I would love for you to explain how the upwards firing router works and is assembled.
Love the build, would also love a video about routerbits and maybe a video if you do not have it about second battery’s with a stinger battery separator??
I've been using a router table and trim router for only about 6 months and even now i keep seeing many different bits that i have no idea what i would do with them. I could also use some tips on different ways to use a router
this is quite a bit late after the vid was released, but have you ever built a custom box for a Nissan Frontier? I just installed a JL Audio C1 690 in the front and the C1 650x in the rear and haven't quite figured out what kind of sub or box to go with. What are your thoughts on this one?
Serious question... in a 4 door pickup why are down firing subs under the back seat better that up firing subs?? What about a single forward firing? Wouldn't that be even better?
Your pieces are nice and cleanly cut! I think you talked me into buying the Porter Cable 890 series. Is there any particular model that you can recommend? I'll basically use it with a router table (but i cannot afford a router lift)... so its the router, a plate and attach it to a DIY table. By the way, what computer program or software do you use to draw your plans? Thanks in advance for your answer and more power to your channel!
question a sealed box with that has a chamber divider for 2 12" subs in trunk, will it sound the same if you have 2 sealed boxes, one 12" sub in each box still in trunk?
I like the idea of using the wood grain material as a inlay to create a more dramatic look. Personally I'd rather see a piece of carbon fiber (even a piece of formica covered in some 3M faux carbon fiber vinyl). I just don't care for "natural" materials in obviously high tech modern vehicles. I'd prefer high tech or modern textiles or maybe a sheet of brushed or polished aluminum. Maybe with your logo created in a high gloss polish and the area around it brushed. I don't know, you were asking for opinions and that's Just mine. Keep up the great work and great tubes, looking forward to the next one.
Have you ever designed any for the mitsubishi 3000gt? I have seen boxes that take up the whole trunk. I'm willing to pay for a design for small tight spaces. What options do I have? Lmk what you can do and I'll pay for design.
Thanks for the quality content as always and your router attention to detail really makes me respect your work... keep it up and +1 for a router feature video
Tell me more about the white TW3 shaped template you were using for the recessed baffle. Is that something you made yourself? If so, how? Or purchased? If so, where?
With proper design analysis looking at how the volume and tuning frequency would impact the response and performance along with other factors. I know, not an easy answer. Most people just go with a "recommended value" from the manufacturer that the manufacture picks based on what will work for the "average" listener. If you want what is truly best for YOUR application, volume and tuning need to be chosen with reason and calculation.
I want to put 2 18" 3200w skar subwoofers in my 2020 Honda Civic LX. I want to put both in a really small box with 4 6" tube ports. What's your thoughts??? And still have plenty of space for cargo.
