Clay: travels to one of the most remote places in North America, travels 20miles away from the closest road on boat, sits in a makeshift blind on the ground and shoots a bear from 5 yards with a traditional bow and arrow. Some dude eating Cheetos in his moms basement: akshually that’s not real hunting, he used bait. Smdh

bait is bait. A true hunter goes into the wild alone (no cameraman/rifleman backup, guides, and equipment porters like this chump had), naked (except for lions cloth shorts), and harvests a bear with a spear. and its doritos not cheetos i'm enjoyin in my ROOMMATES basement (they just happen to be mom and dad).

I’m here because of your interview with Steve. Great episode of the podcast. Fantastic hunt. Whenever someone masters an art people only see what they think is easy because an expert makes it look simpler than it is. What they don’t realize is the years and years of dedication to an art that gets someone to a point where they could make something incredibly difficult look simple. A lifetime of training and dedication made those 15 minutes of footage. Congratulations.

Dilloncw Don't get me wrong, I'm all smiles for our boy! But as a beginner who's still very much learning, would you mind expanding on the theory behind that statement brother? Why is it that you say that a Bear who has shown that upon locating Humans, through scent, vision, hearing etc, a bear in feeding mode that decides humans aren't on the menu, at least on this occasion. Why would this bear be without debate - the more dangerous individual, moreso than for example, a bear who chooses, basically anything else? Taking a nibble etc?
@itsyaboifatmat7959
@itsyaboifatmat7959 4 года назад
MMA Fight! Magazine Ik this is late but, not everyone in the woods is going to be an experienced hunter, there will also be hikers that partake in this forest who may not know how to react to a bear walking right up to them, they may try to run which will make them seem like a prey target to a bear, or even if there’s children the bear would 100% see those as a prey target
@dilloncwwaters4442
@dilloncwwaters4442 4 года назад
MMA Fight! Magazine Never saw your comment but the reason I said that is the most dangerous kind of bear is because it knew that there was a human there and didn’t leave, it wasn’t scared of him at all and a bear that isn’t scared of interacting with humans is a dangerous bear. This is why they tell you not to feed bears or any other wild animals because the animal loses its fear of humans. I get what you’re saying when you say that an aggressive bear would be more dangerous but the point is that this kind of behavior is what leads to an aggressive bear because they aren’t scared of humans and are more willing to be in a situation with a human where they feel pressured and become aggressive.

Google "bear bluffing." Grizzly bears and even black bears do a thing called "bluffing" where they act passive and friendly right before attacking. If a grizzly bear comes anywhere near you during hunting or even camping, they will act friendly at first right before an attack. You need to either kill or it scare it off with bear pepper spray or loud yelling and posturing. Stop trying to rebuke those who have experienced things you will never encounter.

IAD Fishing hunting has been going on as long as humans have been around. There is a distinction between man and animals that is profound and important. Those who are farthest from the natural world have the most extreme attitudes towards the protection of animals. It is ironic that many people who have these extreme ideas of protecting animals have no problem with aborting a human baby. Hunters have the most respect for wild animals because they want them to be around for future hunts. Wish more people respected human life to love and respect the unborn babies that are treated like bio waste.

@@bearhuntingmagazine Its not about that. I work in the forest, for the forest (in wildfire management though, not wildlife but we work closely together). What made me dislike your video (and keep in mind, it randomly appeared in my feed, Im not aware of the controversy). Is the cheap shot you took. It seems that this would have been a great occasion to have mutual respect. The bear showed you respect by leaving you alone when it could have killed you (most likely) easely. It seems like the good guy thing to do would have been to spare his life during that moment. Don't be fool enough to believe that everyone disliking your video are suburban morons who don't understand anything about conservation. Disliking your video isn't an attack either, its a simple expression of dislike. I disliked that you didn't give him the same "respect" he gave you in such an incredible encounter, coupled with what looked like a very badly aimed shot, therefore I disliked the video. All these folks saying "the bear spared him" or "the bear gave him a second chance" without ever having hunted let alone spent time in the true wilderness. The bear was curious and then realized that this was not prey that it was used to, or even thought "oh... humans, back away". The bear was not starved, it had plentiful food so it didn't need to mess with these two. He is a hunter and strives for as clean a kill as possible. BC hunter here. I fully grasp the gravity of this moment. Cant for the life of me understand the paradox of bowhunting with bait? A spot and stalk hunt is the pinnacle of hunting. Leads to some of the most amazing experiences you can have outdoors. Because of it leading to moments like this. Bowhunting which requires more skill than hunting with a rifle is like showing off. Tip of the cap to bow hunters , that is taking spot and stalk to the highest level. Bow hunting with a bait barrel is like completely missing the point. Definitely no shortage of bears in this area. Soldier on young fella but try bear hunting without the barrel its more fun.

It doesn’t matter if the bear got close to him, it doesn’t matter if the bear ran away, it doesn’t matter what the bear did. He probably spent months planning this trip, and he wasn’t gonna let an amazing opportunity pass, simply because the bear let him go. Good job on the shot 👍🏻

It's true though. Everyone in this video should be ashamed of themselves. I've done a bit of bear hunting myself. Bear baiting is unsportsmanlike, it teaches bears that human stuff means food means survival. And, it's not even hunting to just walk to a giant barrel of food that you left out and sit around for a bit. Trophy hunting is unsportsmanlike, in nature the weak, old, and sickly are killed, to do anything but that promotes weak and sickly populations. Killing big boar bears is in no way good ecologically, what is he even talking about with bear populations at all being related to moose and caribou populations? They kill off some calves in the spring, but bears and especially black bears just aren't realistically predators of large mammals. And, having predators for large mammals doesn't hurt populations of game, it holds them in moderation instead of boom-bust as they decimate vegetation and then run out of food and die off in mass on a cycle a couple of decades long. Learn your ecology. Be a moral sportsman. This guy is gross.

I assure you no shot is easy, when your using a stick and string to kill a large mammal... no one sees the hours that equal days he spent practicing, or the days that he went home empty handed, traditional tackle is hard... surprised this guy gets so much shit, compared to guys blasting away with rifles....maybe it’s a lot of city people on here, which is cool, I guess it would be hard to understand,
