When I was about 5 I was attacked by a swarm of yellowjackets as my father had just driven his riding lawnmower over their inground nest. I arrived just as they all came out all pissed off at what had happened and was stung 30-40 times all over my body. I'm in my late 40's now so I don't remember much of it but it certainly instilled a massive fear of anything flying and stinging - that said I still enjoy this channel and the plight of honeybees as I certainly understand the difference. As for yellowjackets, wasps, etc. they can all die a fiery death as far as I'm concerned!

Yes, she has shown a close-up of a stinger in her knuckle and explained how the bee is attached to the stinger and pulls its own guts out trying to fly away after stinging. Erika, YOU ARE AMAZING!! Thank you so much for your calm and compassionate approach!! You are educating so many people just on how to conduct yourself around any animal, with a lot of respect and kindness 💟....I am so impressed by you with your fearless approach....Wonderful for the bees that you are truly their ambassador to the world, and they need it, as you are aware of the pesticides being sprayed on crops, and the danger they are constantly in...I am a garden designer and have been in business for 27 years. Whenever anyone works for me, they are instructed to be gentle and compassionate with all insects in and around the garden, and of course, I do everything organically. So I really get where you are coming from, and we just need so much help to show humans that we are not the only intelligent and caring (not always for sure) life on this planet, and that every life on this planet is valuable and worthy of comfort and kindness while they are here...Much Love to you 💟☯🕉☮

Erica, I just started keeping bees yesterday! I'm so excited! My friends were all asking how I was so calm around the bees instead of freaking out over being stung. You were a huge inspiration!! Wish me luck! Update: Today I went down to the hives. I had an old box lying around with old used frames that I got from a bee-keeping friend and I saw that there were a lot of bees coming in and out of the old box. So I lifted the lid and the top cover and to my surprise there was a hive in there! And so active too! It looks like a new swarm just moved in, queen and all! I'm so happy!

@someoneelse4925
@someoneelse4925 Год назад
@@peppermeat8059 their job is to do that in the places that they are native to. Honey bees were brought over from Europe to north America in the 17th or 18th century because the people moving around the globe saw benefit to bringing the bees. In reality theyre devastating for the native pollinators that actually belong in north America, they're really good at spreading diseases and they're effective at boxing out other pollinators from resources like habitat and food. Yes they pollinate, yes their job is important, but not over here. We already have a whole range of biodiversity that's evolved along side our plants and other native creatures forever. Honeybees are only important to a small hand full of things that are not native to America that we cultivate, America's agriculture is responsible for hundreds of crops, but only about 60 of those specific kinds of food need to have honey bees. In reality there is a bee that is native to north America that's even more efficient at pollinating our native crops and other plants. It's called the blue orchard bee, but no one wants to beekeep them because they can't profit off of honey or literally every other aspect of the bee. Saving the honey bees is propaganda spread by beekeepers because there's so much money to get out of it. The bees wax, the honey, pollinating rentals, selling their stings for holistic medical stuff and more, it's all profitable. What's more American than profit?

Use smoke, then work slowly and deliberately, he explained. It is awesome to see you work just like he explained. I've never been afraid of bees as a consequence and your vids are great fun to watch. Our neighbor in Los Angeles was an old Russian beekeeper. He had hives behind his garage and harvested their honey made from garden flowers in the neighborhood. HIs best honey came from the chaparral blooms. He would haul the hives out into the desert and return months later. That honey had a distinct wild plant bouquet and was nice and dark, not like the typical clover honey. Great stuff. Congratulations to you for your good work.

Hi Erika. Thanks for these videos showing how to manipulate the comb into the frames. I recently found it necessary to move a small colony from a swarm box with no frames in it, to a Langstroth hive, and, although I'm not as clever as you are, and there were a few casualties, I took my time, tried to enjoy the task, and eventually managed to do a half decent job of it. I put a tarp on the ground before I started and that helped in the later stages where I was able to build a ramp using the tarp, right up to the entrance of their new home, so the bees could climb in. It's definitely patience, patience, patience, all the way. There is no way to rush this sort of thing I couldn't have done this without your videos. It also made me laugh when the bees started dragging the elastic bands out of the hive 2 weeks later. and throwing them off the landing strip onto the grass! Bees are fascinating and wonderful animals. And, you're an inspiration to all of us. Best wishes from Tasmania. Where we only have one small hive beetle (now deceased) and no varroa yet.

Dear lady, you are an amazing woman and caregiver for these colonies of bees. When you relocate a hive like this what happens to the stragglers that are left behind. Do they join another colony or are they doomed to expire without relocating their original colony? Wishing you a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace

I saw a bee today, I stopped to notice that a bumble bee is different than a honeybee. Thanks for the new awareness of bees! Then I saw the ridiculous controversary and wanted even more to thank you for your great videos. Of course, you scope out a situation in advance and plan accordingly, obviously, great stuff!!!!

Believe it or not, yellow jackets have their place in the ecosystem. They come and grab worms off of plants and feed them to their young. I allow them to maintain a few nests high HIGH up at the top of my house so they’re around but not right in my area.

Why do I get so invested in this? Sitting here biting my nails, talking at the screen like an idiot. "That's like a gallon of honey!", "Oh girl, you gotta find this queen.", "Lift with your legs!", "You need some reversed clamps to pry that open", "You need a dolly so you don't have to lift that monster hive.". "Oh god, please don't drop it.", Then relaxing at the end like I did something. "Whew. okay. It's fine. Everything is fine." Wife looking at me like I'm crazy. "Hon, it's gotta be another great day of saving the beeeezzzz. It's just gotta."

@@TexasBeeworks ma'am can I get your opinion on how you feel about the fact that you are helping ruin your ecosystem and environment? Were you aware that honey bees are actually an invasive species to North America and the more hives you save, you're actually doing unforetold amounts of damage to the environment you claim to love so passionately? I urge you to do some actual research and hopefully focus your efforts on doing good for your ecosystem rather than allowing an alien species to push out and devastate our natural and native pollinators?
