Big black bear locked in small hot car in BC, destroys Toyota's interior from escape attempt

Two recent bear-related encounters in British Columbia served as a good reminder not to leave your car doors unlocked or garage open - especially if you live close to bear habitat.
In Belcarra, B.C., police were called to rescue a large black bear locked in a small hot car. Coquitlam RCMP say the Toyota Yaris's interior was "destroyed" from the bear trying to escape, and will likely be a write-off.
Meanwhile in North Vancouver, another bear made a meal from an unsupervised freezer. The homeowner returned to see the mess after neighbours informed them they had an uninvited guest.
Global's Troy Charles reports.

When leaving, she did the traditional camper thing...after days in the wilderness, you stop at the park's restaurant and have a decent meal. Just as she was starting to eat, some doofus started leaning on his car horn, and wouldn't stop....she sighed and went back to her meal. When finished, she walked out of the restaurant to find......that SHE was the doofus, a Black Bear had smelled the garbage in the trunk of her car, torn the roof off her convertible and was sitting on the steering wheel...and car horn...while digging his way through the back seat into the trunk and chowing down. We never found out how much it cost to get everything fixed....

Bear manages to get free food - easy access to food. Do not leave bear inside of car

Canadians are so cool with their wild creatures, I recall one clip where a guy stood on his veranda calmly talking to a brar in his yard telling it had to leave because he had to go to work. But it is not good that they learn that they can find food in proximity to humans' residential areas.

He can tell it anything he wants but if he’s left food or garbage accessible the bear’s coming back the minute he leaves.

I watched a bear open a locked car trunk to get at a box full of food. He slapped it near the lock so his claws penetrated the steel, then lifted and it popped open. Black bears' muscles, pound for pound, are the strongest of any mammal.

Bears are very smart. Bears will go into cars because they smell food wrappers etc. and yup they can pretty much destroy the interior. Convertible cars they go thru the soft top. 😮

this is the response of the rcmp to just allow it to come back after it now knows these boxes have food in them ? rcmp are criminal to take the chance the bear won't eat a child

Bears will go to residential areas as long as humans destroy their natural habitat and therefore food as well. It’s like with homeless people: they’ll go search for food everywhere they can
