I got constructively dismissed 10 years ago to be replaced by an intern. The laws or a Union will not help you if this happens. I had over 20 years experience and was highly skilled. I was earning 31k and they saved a lot of money by getting rid of me. I went self employed and have been ever since. I'd never trust an employer ever again. At that time I was hearing companies were hiring Interns for 3 months free labour, letting them go after 3 months saying there's no job and replacing them with another intern

I just finished off a 2.5 year stint at a big electronics company - they have actually stopped hiring grads and have even removed the positions they would typically offer to grads at the end of their rotations. Makes me feel very sorry for the current uni intake. In any case, you have backed the right horse with your drop shipping business, ecommerce is one of the few sectors where us youngsters can really carve out a powerful niche - from an Amazonian ;)

I work in a field where we do very niche environmental consulting. We won’t hesitate to make a generous offer to someone who has a lot of experience like working with the state/government or working with other firms. However new graduates are like babies. Utterly useless and need to be taught everything. They are offered low initial salaries because they will be literally unable to do anything useful without a lot of hand holding for a few months to a year. I assume other industries are similar. Those that offer grads high initial salaries might be immediately useful like computer programmers.

Omg, this just happened to me, they know that the job market for tech is terrible right now. They offered me an Intern position for minimum wage despite my college degree . They know that you are desperate for a job, they'll exploit it. I think my skills are above average but in this tech job market, you'd have to the best of the best to be actually hired for an ENTRY level position if you are a fresh grad.

In modern times, it's actually Steve with 40 years of experience, would probably be on the way out. And you'll stay. Because they can pay you half of normal salary and they don't care about quality. At all. If you screw up? Well that's your problem. Steve, from other hand want twice as much pay, and real benefits...

If yoyve spebt 3 yrs at ...uni.... thikking to skip the queue and swan in with a really good paying job....just cos you spent three yrs at uni.....then youre 40 yrs too late In the 80s that degree , was worth a lot more than it is today. Its supply and demand . Whereas then practically nobody got a degree , a good job was possible with just good o levels. If you had a good degree you were heading somewhere. These days , everyone has a degree.....so theyre worrhless. If you want to make your way , and get a good living you got be humble , dont expect high pay and start a business yoirself

Depends if proper graduate scheme where you will qualifcation paid by the employer it might be worth looking into the cost of the qualifciation. Your colleagues should have done intership to get some expereince. Companies are there the benfefit of the shareholder . Thtat's why you shouldn't waste your time the majority micky mouse degreees better off getting professional qualification or going on the apprenticeships instead. The more the years of service you have been working for the employer the more it costs them to make you reduandant that's the law because of the way it's calculated. The older you are the more likely you are to have proper comitments such as mortgage or rent. In sme pressions the chances of someone starting & completing training in being lawyers for example is 40%. The trouble we all want the maximum pay that's life

Good whining. Problem is - your graduation looses value and in 10 years latest you will not work in your field. And your nice amazon work likely disappear in 5 years latest. Degree? NICE joke - read up the definition of AGI. THIS is what you should focus on - not your current position. You should get active in politics and push for social change. You are in the same game as everyone else the moment jobs disappear and - jobs disappearance has started now. Example marketing - some of my clients and companies run marketing 99.9% automated. Sorry, the future of companies is NOT the graduate - it is full automation.
