Yeah you cannot mistake the sound of them old mopar starters. He could buy a high torque and slap it rite on there. But love he stayed with the old school.
Just so you know, the 318 four barrel and the 360 four barrel, with TQ carbs both came with 800 cfm carbs, so I don't believe an 850-cfm carb on that engine with that cam is too large. I run a 750 cfm on my 360 with smog heads a performer cam and intake and stock exhaust manifolds, it was basically dead with a smaller carb on it. An electric fuel pump so you could fill your carb with gas after it has been sitting will save you from cranking so long to get fuel to your carb and save your starter as well. Awesome sounding engine, great exhaust system, I missed the burnout, or at least I was hoping to see one.
Something we used to do back in the day was prevent the engine from starting until oil pressure built to minimum, usually 20 psi. Cool video man. I just like old-school engines with thumpy camshafts
If it's not timing it sounds like the only thing he needs is an electric fuel pump to prime the engine. This thing sounds beautiful! I'm just getting my 78 D150 running after buying it last October...I'm going to cam and put aluminum heads on it with a 750cfm carb.
Not when they're running right. My 440, and 340 Magnums would fire immediately. To be fair, I never let them sit for two weeks. All the Mopars I ever owned, or my parents cars started without hesitation. They chryslers from '65 to about '73 were excellent. Never had any real problems. My Mom's Cadillac? Totally different story.
I will say that most of the old gm starters sounds like a coffee can full of rocks. They are also the only ones that needs shimming and usually destroys flywheels.
I was a running a Delphi mechanical fuel and a barrel style fuel filter like you have in your 360. I changed out the Delphi for a Carter.. No difference. I changed out the barrel filter for a slim glass one and boy that made a difference in start up. If you’re running a Glycerin filled fuel pressure gauge make sure you cut the tiny nipple off the rubber plug on top. It helps the heat escape for a accurate fuel reading! Those 360s detonate and get hot quick if fuel starved. Beautiful truck and sounds awesome!
That idle sounds wicked! Nope, don't want to see a Stoopid tire roasting burnout - been done to death. With that cam I want to hear a straight up 20 to 100 pull.
@@josephsaucedo8691 hell yeah brother mopar or no car...in currently putting a built 440 big block mopar in a 84 ford Broncos 2 lol...should be 500hp when it's done
Love that sound, mine takes about as long to start, You feather the pedal? I just stomp on it once in mine to set the choke. Could get a good shave in before itll catch😂
360s just take that long to start. Brand new Edelbrock 650 and stock cam in mine and it takes a couple seconds before itll catch. Longer if it's hot out and boils the fuel out of the bowls.
@@throttleblipsntwistedgrips1992 my Magnum 360 starts right up the right fueling and a good starter it should fire up I had a 86 c10 with a 350 with a 4 barrel and it basically would start right up
I hate the fact that my neighbor has to wake up at 5:30am and come home at 6:15am. I'm not sure what engine and exhaust he has in that Dakota Sport Magnum 4-door but it does sound beautifully, throaty but not too obnoxiously loud. Could even be a stock exhaust with a perfect leak somewhere. It actually sounds very good even though it wakes me twice in 45 minutes. I wonder what he's doing every morning?
My first car was a 1976 W200 with open pipe. It didn’t sound as wild, more like a tug boat with the original 318, but it was a flat black work truck not unlike this one.
So many hot heads already in the comments telling him how to enjoy HIS car. lol Awesome 360, I have one in my 64 valiant and love hearing how you have this set up
Nobody's really telling him how to enjoy his car everybody simply telling him that his carb is too big, which it is. Even a cam with over .500 lift and 250 duration won't require more than a 750, LA heads are just that restrictive. Even with a 340 or magnum head swap and headers you still have a 1.6-1.9 inch exhaust valve to compete with as well as very small ports.
Please make more cold starts! Next time show us what you’re doing inside the cab - the whole procedure. What you do with the gas pedal, etc. Subscribed!
I have a quick question about getting your Truck on to a great start in the morning...??.. I think a Remote Transmitter Function Starter unit would work well for you.. Jus my thoughts and two cents..
What cam exists that would produce a similar sounding idle for these engines? I'm building one for the first time and don't know what I should look for
@@rustbeltbuilds Check your total timing: base + mechanical advance. See where it is at 3000rpm. Should be around 36 degrees. If not, raise your initial up a bit. I think it could use it.
