I’m sorry to tell you….but, I am still laughing (out loud, even!😂) over your facial reaction to your two different juices. Sooo funny. I say BRAVO for your bravery on camera 👏👏👏. We are blessed so greatly with each & every video you do. You fit into the category of “mood elevator”. I cannot imagine that folks would be in a bad mood after watching any one of your videos 😍

Hi Chelsea A tip for your sea buckthorn harvest. Place a tarp or frost net under the bush to catch the berries. Use a fork or berry tongs to harvest sea buckthorn. Warm greetings from Germany Claudia

Also wanted to tell her that I know you can make marmelade with sea buckthorn on it´s own or with other fruit, liqueur, a mix it with honey, make oil from the pulp and the kernel,... We have a buckthorn farm with a shop half an hour away from were I live they have all kinds of stuff.

I’ll try to make this a long story short. At least 25 years ago when my husband worked as a photojournalist at our local CBS station, the anchor and friend of his told him about a guy he met (I think) from New Jersey who had this amazing juicer thing. It was called Mehu Liisa and was named after his daughter, Liisa. I ordered one and my juicing and jelly-making was transformed. I started with crab apples and it made the best crab apple jelly ever. We have a local Concord grape pick your own place and picking starts on September 20. That’s what I’ll be juicing. And while we’re not big juice drinkers either, we make the exception for grape juice. Fun video as always!! ❤️

sea buckthorn is one of the reachest in vitamin c foods. vitamin C is mostly destroyed by the heat of the juicer. I freeze the berries and use them in smoothies in winter, seeds and all. the berries are also rich in omega 3,6,7 and 9, but only as a whole food! You isolate the nutrients by juicing it.

My mom was from Finland (the Swedish speaking area on the west coast) and they used the steam juicers for Lingonberry juice (a sort of cranberry) and also for sea buckthorn. Love those juicers - found two of them at garage sales here (there is a nice size Scandinavian community down in the lower mainland) so us kids didn't fight over who got Mom's juicer.

I usually put a container on a chair in front of the stove, open the clamp, and let the juice run directly into it. That way, I don't need to worry about losing any if it gets too full and spills into the bottom section.

I used to be a store-bought-can-of-green-beans person but now I fry up some cut up bacon and sliced onion, add in the green beans to heat them up and add a little black pepper and a splash (maybe 1/2 tsp for a quart) of lemon juice. They are so good! If you make a large batch in a crock pot, cook the bacon first, drain it and add everything else plus some butter and cook on low for about 4 hours.

I love my steam juicer! One of our favorite apple- related treats is to make a spiced apple juice that we warm up as a cider substitute (using sweeter apples). I put a few cinnamon sticks and a tea ball strainer with some whole cloves in the middle portion where the juice collects. Then I just water bath it in quart jars. This is a great way to use up all of the cores and peels that I take off when making my applesauce. I collect them and steam them. It's a fantastic byproduct, especially on cold winter days. It also makes a lovely gift.

I used to only make jello jams in all sorts of flavors, but thanks to Ruthann @ Homesteading with the Zimmermans, I now make lots of jars of zucchini pineapple. Crushed, chunks & half slices. It's wonderful!! And so much cheaper than the real stuff in cans at the store. There's also recipes on youtube for making apple pie filling with big zucchs. That's on my list for this year still to get done. Happy canning & thanks Chelsey for another great video!! God bless 🙏🙏🙏

SEABUCKTHORN HARVESTING - Rob Avis from Verge Permaculture in Alberta has a great way to harvest Seabuckthorn. If you have an old empty deep freeze, trim the branches with the berries, set them in the deep freeze to freeze. Then bang the branches on the inside of the deep freeze and all berries and leaves fall off. Separate them and continue to keep the berries frozen in bags or whatever. The leaves make a great tea too.

I absolutely love my steam juicer. Picked it up about 15 years ago when I saw it in an Amish dry goods store when down in PA. Have used it for our wild Concord grapes, apples, wild beach plums, wild beach rose hips, raspberries, blueberries and just a few weeks ago juiced several pounds of cranberries that I wanted to get out of my freezer. I have heard of people using it to make chicken stock, but I have never tried that. Have loaned it out to friends as well because as you said it is such a labor saver when making jelly. I am fascinated by the new home freeze driers. What a great tool for preserving! In an earlier season of life I definitely would have saved tor one of those. I also love the electric pressure canning and am considering saving for that investment.

The apple juice can also be used as a marinade for pork products. It works especially well if you do pork chops. I always add a pinch of curry powder to add an earthy component. The juice caramelizes to seal the chops and prevents then from getting dry. The juice can also be heated with spices to create a nice warm drink in the winter. I have also purchased a steam juicer. Glad to see another canning video. It is always great to more options for recipes to can. Thanks for the video.

I also just got a steam juicer! It didn't come with an instruction manual, though. 😞(I do like a good manual) I filled the top to the brim and then added more apples in when the first bit cooked down. It did seem a bit watered down to me but I'm excited to try other things. I've only done apples so far. I then put the "used" apples through my food mill and made applesauce. I was worried that it wouldn't taste very flavorful but it was just fine. Your sea buckthorn juice is BEAUTIFUL!

Presto does sell a larger electric canner that does quarts. I recently purchased one and used it once so far.

You really need to can some apple juice. I the winter we heat some apple juice in a cup with a couple of cloves and a cinnamon stick. Makes a nice warm drink after dinner but before bed!!! My friend puts a little sip of brandy on hers.

I have that same juicer. I take the core and bad spots out. When all the juice is done, i take the pulp and put it through the food processor then make leather with it. You don't even notice the peels.
