My friend Scott and I would jump around and sing like fools to Big Country. Lost Scott to cancer 6 years ago and still think of him when I hear this song. RIP Scottie. Love and miss you brother
I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. But you had your good times together, the love you had for each other like brothers, and the many shared memories (like this song) that will always remain, forever. ✌🏾😎
He hung himself in a closet in a hotel next to honolulu airport....never even made it to the beach.....i stayed at that hotel....very sad...i am thinking he went out there to get better or see the beach etc.... before he killed himself....but killed himself in a crappy hotel
Hullo therr, from Bristol. I was working in Dunfermline in 2001 when Stuart died, what a singer and songwriter. It only later I discovered Into the Valley was written about High Valleyfield near Culross,
I do rather miss the times when you could go on to a stage or a sports field at the end of a match and nobody would chuck you off. I understand why that stopped, but it's great to see.
My dad bought me my first car (a used 77 Toyota celica, a bit beat up) in 1984 and when I picked it up and drove it home, I turned on the radio. This song was playing. I felt like I was in heaven, I felt free. It was the 1980s and I was in high school with my whole life in front of me. I was driving a car. It was a Houston summer. The traffic was jumpin. I'll NEVER forget the ENERGY this song gave me that night!!!!!!!!!!

Your memory is your youth relived. You may miss who you were before time passed by, and your youth will always exist whenever you recall it. Age is just a state of mind...
I'm a 52 year old from the South of England. I recently met a young Scottish lad - late teens / early 20's and we were chatting about music. He's a very proud Scot. He'd never heard of Big Country, so it was my pleasure to introduce this band to him, and this was the first song I played for him. Instant fan!
He was solid (and vital) for sure. Another player whose band would be absolutely empty without his bass-parts is Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes. Never underestimate the bass-player (I say this as a guitar/keyboard/frontman). 👍
You're gone, Stu, but I and your many other fans cannot forget you (not that we'd ever want to). Stuart Adamson is on a very special list of musicians who not only pleased my ears but touched my heart, too. Thanks to RU-vid and other avenues, we can time-travel and see you alive, well and playing the songs (BC and Skids) that we remain in love with.

I love how a couple of guys get on the stage to dance, then another fan actually kisses Stuart and nobody cares. A great band, they really really were. Wonderful song. Also, the bass player is incredible, and they make guitars sound like bagpipes
@@goldenblue8991If this happened now, it'd probably be because the fans are trying "Lennon" the band... It's happened enough times to be cautious. Blame the idiots for ruining everything...
I'm a Level and Jazz Funk fan but love Big Country and Thin Lizzy- just realised how natural it is to love the latter 2 and how similar Big Tone and Big Phils grooves are. Imagine what Phil and Stu could be coming up with in heaven- its not like there's going to be a lack of talent re a 2nd 5 string and keyboard player or bongo banger to jam with.😂❤❤
It makes me sad that Stuart had so much joy performing on stage but couldn't find that same joy in his personal life. This song always makes my heart ache, but in a good way.
Ah the Tube-my home town -Newcastle. We get hit on by the Southern Government all the time but they’ll never kill the Geordies. Big Country-excellent band n a perfect fit for the Toon!
When The Skids were in their pomp I asked Edge who was his favourite guitarist. He said Stuart Adamson & Tom Verlaine (Television). Made total sense to me.
Scotland can be proud of how many great groups they produced in the 1980’s, never mind a Big Country, they are a small Country but brought us lots of brilliant music during the best decade ever!
Agreed. Mark Brzezicki was a killer on drums and a main part of their sound. Sad that a lot of live video setups didn't think about including the drummer in many recordings. Lazy and disrespectful in my opinion.
1984: As a 14 yr old, cool song Dude. I mean like, whatever with the lyrics 2023: As a 52 yr old: living in the desert, I finally get the lyrics. RIP lead singer Dude
We all do my friend... the 80s were our last decade of freedom.. it ALL CHANGED from the 90s. The cancer of p.c started and look were we are now.. godbless you n your family.... I think you'll need it.. ❤❤
@@djsimonrossprice9400 amen to that. my granddaughter now has a cellphone glued to her face. she is withdrawn and she doesn't interact with anyone. just hates hugging mom and dad. sad
3 main takeaways: - this song is a special kind of beautiful that tears me up - headphone technology has come so far (1:01) - when they start rocking together at 1:08 gives me chills every time and the thrusting in unison is immortal
My Dad worked for a chauffeuring company and drove these guys around London for a week or so in the early 80's. He said what a great bunch they were, funny and friendly. I loved them.
Every time i listen to this song it's just like the first time. Amazing voice and energy. Tony must be one of the most underrated bass players ever. The noise he gets from the bass is unparalleled 👌 RIP Stuart, your legend lives on 🙏
Gosh ! Back in 1984 in France , was about to move to UK , this song that I didn’t understand made its mark , one of my favourite to this day ! Come on Uk , were is your great music like in those days ?
All the talk about Duran Duran, culture club, Spandau, people forget how much impact bands like BC had, real music played by real musicians and written by real talent ❤❤❤
Everyone of us who were seniors that year absolutely knew that this was the best that life would ever be and it would never be this good again..and we were right.
Never heard of these guys before and this was first song I heard. I like the song on the album, but this live version is fantastic. That's the hallmark of a great band-the ones with live recordings just as good if not better than their studio releases.
Some of the greatest music in Britain came out of Scotland. I loved Big Country in my youth. Great times and fantastic songs from a fabulous band. R.I.P Stuart. Oh man your missed.
@@laravelisbullschitt3281 But they didn't and we never sat around wishing they were. I was in my early 20s in the 80s. Lived down in N. Miami Bch. I would much rather be young then than now. This place now is a total 💩💩💩💩show
They need to get rid of "smartphones", they are making people dumb! You are right, very few don't put that blanket down and just enjoy the moment or life. Always have to record or take a picture; for what. You remember the event more by seeing it.
Stuart Adamson will live forever in his brilliant songs! He was a true innovator and such a sweet person. The whole band is just rockin it up there! What a show!
Certain things in life, you only get one chance. On occasions when I was mumbling away,my dad would interrupt with, "Coulda,woulda,shoulda.." It sunk in,eventually. Good on you, boys. Got up there. Did the jig. Had a laugh.
@@celephais5748 ha ha ha ha that was hilarious. Being a proud englishman i was honoured to see this great band live. They were f...ing brilliant. R i p to the late great stuart adamson.
Im 69 and i still want to fet up and dance and sing to Big Country. Thank you for touching my heart as a young woman and still to this very day ! 😘❤️🙏💙😇💕
