I am the girl in the video. Great times! Terrific band and lovely people. Storm Thorgerson directed. He designed the famous Pink Floyd 'Dark Side of the Moon Album cover. Sharon Sheehan
Great passion you brought to the song and video Sharon - like Claire in Outlander before there was Outlander. Thanks for posting this. Any other memories of the band?
My dad used to have the big country album on cassette in the car - this song in particular just reminds me of those long summer car journeys as a child ❤
Stuart would have turned 63 today..11 April 1958 Manchester - 16 December 2001 Honolulu. He took his own like a few miles from where I live.. So sad. We you Love Stuart..
@@valeriemcmahon7998 So sadly missed , a great guy so down to earth, I was home for christmas and went to see a band with my sisters and mentioned I was friends with Stuart , my wife said you mite know him but freinds ??. A week later out celebrating New Year Stuart and Bruce came out of a pub Stuart shouts " happy new year mick" he and Bruce come over to shake hands . Needless to say the wife was gobsmacked the THEY came to greet me ,she then had to admit I was friends
I absolutely love Big Country. They had an honesty and unpretentious sound that stands any test of time. Saw loads of bands in the eighties and Big Country were definitely the best live act I saw
Remember I was 23 and recently met my future wife just before this came out, I remember asking her who this was singing on her cassette player, WOW 34 years ago and still with the love of my life, good memories and greatest music back then.
Was a fan of Stuart way back when he was a member of the Skids. Can feel his heartfelt emotions in his lyrics. Stuart left far more than a legacy in music, he left hope for all. RIP Stuart, gone but never forgotten
Big country are just brilliant, im 58 now but they have definitely left their mark in the 80s amongst all the other talented stars , the 80s will never die in my eyes.
I've been listening to this song and watching the music video for about 15 years but finally felt the need to comment about it. Big Country is my favorite band of all-time. That being said, there was one thing they did arguably better than anyone else and it was creating a perfect duality of light and dark. The anthemic guitar riffs and swells are complimented by such heartbreaking lines such as "...but now it's done. I always knew that we would never find the sun". RIP Stuart Adamson, one of the greatest poets of my lifetime and any other.
Liked Big Country in the eighties as in always liked their songs when I heard them on the radio- now years later, having properly listened to their music and delved into the lyrical content I’m amazed at how good the songwriting. Beautiful lyricist and fabulous musicians. They were brilliant.
Not only beautiful but an incredibly great song which is also very underrated. I can confidently say that this song along with other 80's gems will eventually get their time in the spotlight. Wow.
I was lucky enough to have just turned 16 when this song came out. The perfect age to experience it for the first time. That sense of excitement and yearning for adventure...young love...hormones coursing through my veins. I loved this song then, now (2022) and forever. God Bless you, Stuart. I hope you've found the peace you so well deserve.
That's right, we were very excited to be alive. The 80's is the best and greatest decade in the history of the Universe. The underlying subconscious factor was the constant fear of Nuclear War. "We'd better have a good time right now, because each minute could be our last " We had three evil monsters with their fingers hovering above the button. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher and George H W Bush. Extreme Right-Wing monsters. So what we needed was great music and vibrant, colourful clothing to disguise our constant fear. The decade of excess and greed brought about the most sickening economic depression of the early 90's. This plunged the Western world into a decade of darkness. Grunge with it's flanno shirts and introspective lyrics creating deep sadness and Rap n Hip Hop with its racist and misogynistic lyrics. The World and the music has never recovered. Captains of Industry telling the public what they have to like. Manufactured, generic 'music' All the singers and artists sound the same. Sterilised and homogenised 'people' The complete opposite to PUNK n NEW WAVE. The Planet was at its Zenith then. Historians will look back at the mid-late 1970's and the 1980's as the pinnacle of human art n culture. I was born in 1961, I saw and heard it all.
Just superb. They were great in the 80s where i was in my prime. But, when i listen now to the band, they have such depth and meaning to their songs. I can't get enough of them now. Long live the 80s, and im sure im not alone in my thoughts with the 80s. Honest, great times we had.
YES it was indeed. Fantastic band in an amazing era. Very wisely chosen words. Couldn't have said it better in any way. Scottish bands always have quality, doesn't matter which you choose, btw. I also love Scotland, have been there once. You are not the only one with that opinion, greetings from Germany.
The 80’s was a great time for bands from Scotland simple minds big country altered images just lead the way and put Scotland on the map for amazing music
I love this song. It was released when I was 6. It has always meant a lot to me. Just pure 80’s perfection. Lyrically it just has a sense of romance and heartbreak. And the guitars! I listen to it at least once a week.
Being a musician for 45 years, I find that Big Country has a particular quality that I have a hard time defining. Maybe it's because they're from Scotland, which is so rich in history, giving Scottish people a way about them that shines through in their creative endeavors. One of my favorite lyrics, ever..."Hide your eyes from the land where I lie cold." Colorful and brilliant, in my humble opinion.
What a great band with so many great songs and most people don’t even know about them. In the 80s you may have heard a few songs but sure don’t hear them on the radio anymore what a shame. Their songs get you wanting to dance or bounce around. Love this band.
I've only heard the opposite of that on many occasions. Even from Millennials. A truly remarkable decade for music. Bands that were overshadowed because of the sheer amount of musical talent would shine in todays barren landscape.
As a millennial, I can 100% cast iron guarantee that 'your music' was infinitely better. How do you think we all got our music tastes. The reason for all the contemporary shite is parents not passing on their love in the form of music to their children.
One of my absolute favorite bands of all time. Years ago, I stumbled upon a public concert they gave in Union Square in San Francisco. Hadn't planned it, recognized the music, and hustled over to see it. Sweet!
Loved 'Big Country' got to see them at a mad concert in Belfast which turned into a crush and near miss disaster at Belfast leisure centre as the Council had no idea just how popular they were!...RIP to the awesome Stuart Adamson 🙏🎸🎤...Two favourites will always be 'Big Country' and 'Look away'...I was emotional when I heard them and watched them playing them both live...good time 💪
Absolutely brilliant and underrated songwriting group You listen to the dribble like Ed shearing and others of today bringing similar songs out every 2 weeks Nar this is music

My dad in his red capri used to drive me round the village listening to rock ballads this was on classic. And Robert plant big log Carrie all the greats. he died when I was 18 still gets me when I hear these.❤❤❤
I have watched this millions of times and listened to it just as many. The whole story, the beautiful lady ,the horses even run to the beat of the song, and it is still one of the best songs ever.
Saw this video when it came out, I was probably 13, first BC song I can remember hearing/seeing. Immediately bought the Seer on cassette, wore it out, then bought The Crossing and Wonderland EP (yes I know that was out of order) and wore them out. Still listening to them as much as any other music today
still one of my fav songs, and music videos all these years later, often used to imagine a great cowboy epic story being told to the words of this song, also the one song i cannot for the life of me work out how to play on guitar ..
