Plz don't disrespect the legends,no one in the game today can hold a candle to the pioneers of this art we call rap, much respect to Kane,RAKIM,KRS,LL,Heavy d,Chuck D,Kool moe D,the list goes on..........
I agree. Big Daddy Kane and Rakim imo are both the GOAT of hip-hop imo. "Aint no half Steppin" was something human ears had no concept of how dope words could sound put together. Somehow BDK was able to pull off a light hearted yet incredibly ominous instrumental - something human ears on June 21st 1988 could not get enough of; allowing him to STILL be the only hip-hop artist to sell out the World Famous Apollo Theater - not once - but TWICE to an all female audience. No rapper has even done it once. He also did the Madona "SEX BOOK" photo shoot with Naomi Campbell. Kane THE MAN in the late 80's and 90's when the golden age took off. He was literally rap's Mick Jagger. KANE is the GOAT of Hip-hop imo. "Women want him and men wanted to be him" Big Daddy Kane - King Asiatic Nobodies Equal is the GOAT. Kane was this master lyricist, battle rapper, as well as showman who could DANCE. He was the ENTIRE PACKAGE. Big Daddy Kane was Biggie Smalls, Big L, AND Jay Z's idol/influence; while Rakim was Tupac, Nas, and Eminem's. Nuff said: Kane and Rakim both the GOAT. He was doing a show in Russia recently. check this out. The states need to show him this kind of love again. HE IS the GOAT after all. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Piw8TM8ZTnw.html
500K? Ninja is you crazy?!!! I say, why don't him and Rakim do an album together and call it "Kane vs Rakim" and the whole album would just be diss records going back and forth between the both of them, set up a website for fans to vote who won. Each fan who bought the album would get 1 vote and they would have to put in a serial code to validate their vote, and we would know who the winner is from that. Kane and Rakim could make a killing from the tours, endorsements and records sales from that, and rekindle a new audience.
uhh no. thats respectable considering both of their statures. plus a real hip hop fan would have no problem setting that up and throwing down the investment. all of hip hops enthusiasts would enjoy that battle. and i mean real enthusiasts. not people who stick to this generation and this generation only.
Lagstab you would prefer hearing ONE battle VS one album with multiple battles verses from Kane & Rakim... how the fuck does that make sense to you lol
nigga. stop reading into shit you lame. i replied to his comment. what the fuck does that have to do with an album. that wasnt the topic of discussion. i didnt even click the read more. sooo. done here. bye.
Beats By A.S Check this out. They make it a double album, call it still "Kane vs Rakim" Disc 1 would be called "War" and that would be the disc with all the diss records would be on. Disc 2 would be called "Peace" that would be the one where Kane and Rakim would collabo on tracks together and bring in other rappers like Jay, Nas, Yeezy, Ghostface, Rae, and Kendrick, only the top tier MC's no South ninjas unless they bring fire like Outkast, or Bun B, or somebody like that. The tour behind that would be crazy. The funny thing is, even if they did do it, we still probably wouldn't have the answer as to who was better. But the beef would be off the chain and the cool thing about it, it would be a friendly beef and they would make tons of money behind it and it might even turn hip hop around.
I don't even think people are listening to Big Daddy Kane in this. He isn't jumping out the box saying "I'm gonna battle Rakim for $500,000 right now real shit!" BDK is just saying if it happened to come up, then sure. He obviously saying it from a standpoint out of pure entertainment and for fans, but he's older and he's got grown man things going for him.
Rakim was scared back then so why force it now. Kane is a real man. He not looking to force it. He just knows - if he gonna do it after all these years its gonna cost somebody bc i know i'm already the man. That said: Big Daddy Kane and Rakim imo are both the GOAT of hip-hop imo. They are both top-2 based on seniority as well as substance. They cannot be supplanted by anyone except the other. They are the GOATS. "Aint no half Steppin" was something human ears had no concept of how dope words could sound put together. Why so much negative comments? They aint that old, they are like in their mid 40's. As if you guys wouldn't want to see Nas vs Eminem. Nas and Eminem are 41 and 42. That aint that much younger than Kane and Rakim.
Shadow Play in the Woods But nas vs jayz already happened and nas imo won. Now nas vs em would be a much more interesting battle since em is much more experienced in battle rapping than both jay and nas.
Of course Big L is dope. But anyone who is a real hip hop fan and knows about hip hop and the different emcees in the game, would not put Big L in their top 10. He fits in top 20.
+Anthony Cedeno I respect ya comment that's a personal opinion bro. Big L is my favorite rapper of all time with Kool G Rap being my 2nd fave. Its all in your own personal taste. Peace and love.
Damn, Vlad is not the best interviewer. He never authentically peels away layers within the conversation. He asks a question, gets an answer and then says "oh" or "um", then asks another question. My G, act like YOU care about the conversation you are having with some of these guys. Have a conversation, that's seems like the appeal of your channel. Anybody can and has "interviewed" these guys. We want next level.
Yeah it sucks so many people give better interviews but somehow vlad gets to interview everybody. Would love to see nardwuar interview Kane instead of boring ass Vlad. Idk how he has so much clout to get so many Legends
You know you are the best ever when a promoter changes the format of a concert based on whether or not you are showing up. Kane and Rakim are two of the best MC's of all time. I bet they could kill about 95% of the guys rapping today
a lot of dudes my age (I'm 27) don't realize that kane can definitely come with hard bars when he wants to. listen to the "95 freestyle" he did with pac, big, shyheim and scoob. kane kills that shit and its a very battle oriented verse
Shyheim rhyme was the first verse from on and on Pac verse was from nothing to lose that was suppose to be on his troublesome album that he scrapped for strictly for my niggas
MrWARBUCKS24 didn't know what shyheims verse was from but yeah i know pacs was from nothing to lose. i don't think he ever wanted that track released but it was a classic. there were a couple of classics from r u still down but i don't think he intended for any of that to be released. always loved that song though. i don't know where kanes and big's verses are from maybe like pac they were just never intended for release. it was kind of after kane did his thing in the late 80s early 90s. and scoob was always trash although i liked him on show n prove
That's the only time I've heard Big spit that rhyme R u still down was songs from the troublesome and the original me against the world yeah scoop was always teash I only liked him on pimpin ain't easy
ChilloutSessionZ I would say that they were pretty evenly matched until Kane started doing the whole radio thing. Kane for me is the 3rd best of all time. Behind kool g and Rakim. For my top 5 though it goes 1. Rakim 2. Kool G Rap 3. Kane 4. Krs 4. Big Pun. The whole reason why I think Ra would win is because he came out of the battle seen. Ra has nasty punchlines and was one of the first to change the whole yelling in the mic type of rap in the 80's. Tupac, Nas, Dmx, the Wu, Common, Big l, and many legends all looked up to rakim. An opinion is an opinion so don't go off telling me rap is not for me. I was raised on this shit.
You don't deserve to have an opinion on hiphop if you say you can't name a big daddy Kane song, all rock n roll fans young and old know the pioneers of the culture... & hiphop deserves the same respect
Damn...I'm seeing people hating & disrespecting Big Daddy Kane and Rakim on here, smh. They are fucking legends and arguably the top emcee's, ever! People have no respect or knowledge of Hip-Hop's past. These legends can easily still crush "artists" like Drake,Lil Wayne,Macklemore,ect...People saying to quit cause they're old....What's great about this art/music is you're never too old do record music. It's not like a retired 60yr old NFL player trying to play again. A body ages, words are infinit!! And these dude earned the respects they got and still deserve! Without them you likely wouldn't have the albums you enjoy today!
Kane vs Rakim in 1989 would have been the illest battle ever. Both of them were in there prime at that time. I would have to go with Kane over Rakim though especially in a face to face battle. Kane had to much wit and showmanship for Rakim. Rakim is a great lyricist but lacks energy in a live show. Rakim has admitted he doesn't like to perform. Kane would have hit Rakim with the punchlines, clever sarcastic wit, and his showmanship was second to none. I love both mc's and they are both dope but my favorite is Big Daddy Kane followed by Kool G. Rap.
Kane showmanship might be the best in hip hop history I tell ppl that's where Rakim lost same thing with G Rap and its not a coincident that G Rap and Rakim were in the same camp them niggas had other things on their mind then performance
TheEdub1 I love Kane, but I have to disagree with this statement. In my opinion, KRS-One is the most versatile emcee in history. The man could simply do anything, rock the mic with lyrical wit, move the crowd, so many styles they were falling out of his pocket, and when it came to battling.....the man ended careers. BDK is in my top 3 of all time, but when it comes to that top spot, there is no question the T'cha reigns supreme.
Casper Campbell Its debatable Krs is extremely versatile as is Kane. The difference is Kane even danced while rapping. Which is much harder then standing on stage on rocking the crowd. Both are extremely dope and u can't go wrong with either choice. But my #1 is King Asiatic Nobody's Equal = KANE!
I got respect for nigga Kane and Rakim, but with all due respect you can keep that battle. I'm not checking for it. Both of y'all legends... but let's leave it at that.
It ain't gotta be nothin serious in my opinion. I wouldn't expect Kane and Rakim in their prime. Just fun loving classic MCs having fun going back and forth. That be dope!
***** Cause they are still relevant to a degree... That simple. What does Em and Jay got to do with this...??? When did they battle each other or express interest in battling each other...???
Damn! That battle would have been something. As a Kid, there were no two emcees i wanted to see go at it more than Rakim & Kane. KRS & Shane could have also been on that card. As well as LL & Kool Moe DEE.
If people did actual reading and LISTENING to REAL HIP HOP music, you would know that Big Daddy Kane is still making music. He put out a collaboration album last year called Las Supper. - Back to the Future. His bars on the certain tracks that he appears on are FIRE. He's always doing collaborations with other artists, mainstream, underground, etc... and smashes it out the park. As well as putting out a few singles every year, since his last solo album in '98, or appearing on various DJ's albums for a freestyle or song that they want him on and MURDERS IT. He also still tours nation/worldwide, all year round. He's active in social media (Twitter, FB, IG). Makes movies. My dude is a jack of all trades, and has NEVER LOST a STEP in his verbal ass whippings! Check for him, just youtube his name and watch greatness... in his shows, interviews and music in general. I'd love to see this battle, it's been talked about for over two decades... but trust me, it's NEVER going to happen. Great to hear my dude always spit that knowledge, and these young kids, that need to learn respect, in all facets OF LIFE, also need to respect the architects! Much love & respect to the God, Rakim Allah.
respect to the legends who helped create this art called hiphop...Do you know what kind of showing$$, hysteria, and return smack would get for example, if he had Kane vs Rakim on let's say Summermadness 5! alongside a dope card like MOOK vs hollow, and remy vs Jaz. That shit would be bigger than anything going on in hiphop currently like "turn up music" smdh
Jaz would slaughter Remy. I like Rem but Jaz got everything. Even though she not gangsta, she is very aware and lyrical enough to talk that shit. Rem a Dinosaur to this battle shit.
idk bro I appreciate your opinion but, heard some battle like bars from Remy recently and let's not forget she was slaying chicks like Lady Luck at fight club
I know, but at the same she didn't slaughter Luck. Luck had good witty bars. Remy is mad aggressive and not super lyrical. She didn't have many metaphors and wordplay. Think Jaz vs Ms Hustle. Nothin fazes Jaz . I'm not sleeping on Rem tho Jaz is Great, maybe the best.
good analysis Rem has wins in the aggressive . and delivery dept. but may be inferior with punchlines. Female battles is cool, not crazy to me but koo, but Remy jumping no in the ring would def make me interested...and she might as well! shit
rashaun hollis I see ppl on jaz nuts alot. So I went back and watched her battles and she still don't move me like ehart chyna ashley ms hustle official or bonnie. In my book its like 8 females better than jaz and done of em are new. But any suggested battles I should watch to understand her following plz let me know.
Wow. I can't believe Kane vs Rakim could have happened in 89. That sucks it did not happen. I guess it's not just fight sports were the big dream match get's missed for politics.
+xXBCARLXx They had two COMPLETELY different styles from the rip! Ra has ALWAYS been just a pure lyricist! Kane had the battle rhymes, the party vibe AND the raw lyrics!
Kane you'll need 69 other battle rappers with you, to equip you, but you'll all catch Rakim's lyrical nuclear missile, all the crowd will see is fragments of all of ya'll 's biological tissues, fragmented throughout the atmosphere, but not to dis you, it's a warning, but Kane knows he'll lose, early yawning, for Rakim , Kane acting like it's funny, knowing dag on well he's going to lose, but at least I'll make some money. Rakim will start from rapper number 69, you know the rest, he will put em all in a line, till there's 70 crap rappers, all ate up AT THE SAME TIME !
Major exaggeration. Kane would not get crushed. It's a pretty close match if you ask me, but I think Kane would have the slight upper hand in a battle. The dude is no slouch when it comes to straight lyrical rapping.
Techno 360 Kane is a Coney Island version of Rakim. He'll have to bring a DJ & rip something intellectually scientific yet street slanged out.I can't see Kane Out doing krs unless he does the above. Rakim needs a DJ too! Rakim still finds hot beats most of the time somewhere though.
Techno 360 Look at who said that though. I give Ice T props but disagree with his opinion unless you like Commercial Metaphors, then I might have to agree. Kane is The King of THOSE.
These old school dudes had short careers, he says he came out commercially in 87 and he was pretty much gone by the early 90's...nowadays you see dudes with half the talent lasting a decade or more
Dude do you know how the average music career lasts? Not that long. Don't act like its a ton of rappers with careers over 10 years. Especially back then. Hip hop changed so much it was hard to keep up. Nowadays it is pretty much the same. Two totally different eras..These old school dudes get more respect because they elevated the game. Man..some of you cats are not that bright..lol
Yeah, because TODAY'S so called artists SUCK ASS. They don't have competition, so they can stink it up for a decade. Younger fans don't have a fucking clue what they missed because they grew up listening to garbage, so they don't KNOW any better. Older fans REMEMBER quality hip hop music, and can tell the difference between the old school hip hop and this new generation that is all flash and NO substance.
Big Daddy Kane is one of the true emcees they talk to in the book- *The Concise Guide to Hip-Hop Music* Give that book a read if you like real, classic hiphop, lot of gems in there.
Kane vs. Rakim would expose just how bad hip hop has become today. That being said, there is a HUGE difference between battle rap and Hip Hop MUSIC. Battle rap is an EVENT with a very short lifespan. MUSIC IS FOREVER. Nobody will remember these shitty "battles" in the future. Kane, Rakim, Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC and so forth, will be remembered forever.
Even after Rakim drops the mic when he's finshed...and watches it smoke? hahaha Not to be predicable, but what line does Kane have that even touches that line? Of course I'm referencing "My Melody". Just saying neither would crush the other. They're both giants.
Not in 89. In 88, 87, or 86, Rakim would have blown Kane away with ease. ... Rakim was the undisputed king of the mic at those times. Kane had improved soo much by 89 (only a years time) that it would have been up for grabs. You really can't compare the two because Rakim did not have the metaphors or versatility of Kane. Kanes style was more sophisticated. Rakims style, while not as sophisticated stylistically, was bolder, and his lyricism was unmatched by anybody. I can't compare anybody with Rakim in that era because there was nobody like Rakim. Rakim had a bigger impact on other rapers being forced to step their game up than any other rapper IMO.
Kane was flashier, I wouldn't say more sophisticated. Rakim is tasteful and smooth, and he had beautifully poetic lines. To me, that's more what being refined is about. Also, you talk about metaphors..."If I was water I'd flow in The Nile" and "I'm measured with the heat that's made by Sun", are more interesting metaphors than anything Kane has that I can think of, off hand. They're both the two best MCs of the golden age. Honorable mentions to Chuck D, Cool J and Fresh Prince.
Cody Wilson Kane had a more sophisticated style. He would change the way he placed his words and rhymes onto the beat in a matter of bars. Either speed rapping, or rhyming multiple times within a single bar. That was not Rakims thing. Kane was similar to Jay-Z and Rakim was similar to Nas. Chuck D, Cool J, and Fresh Prince were nowhere near Rakims level.
+Cody Wilson What's funny is you said that Rakim is the "Smooth" one and Kane literally has a song called 'Smooth Operator' I mean, Kane inspired the likes of Big L, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z. Surely, that counts for something.
I'll pay you 100 dollars to Battle Rakim 30 years after the fact. Kane hasn't put anything good out since Smooth Operator album. Rakim has had some pretty good material after the 80's and 90's
No body wanna see y'all old asses battle nomore it's all about timing and you are very late Kane.... You are one of my favorite emcees but you can scratch that 500k homie
wesley holley they sure are. but, there truly isn't a battle rap market for this theoretical battle. I'm 27 and id pay $20 to see it for sure. but i don't think anyone else i know, not one person, would be into it. and as for the crowd that they rocked to 25 years ago, there now 40-50 years old and aren't battle fans like that. maybe a small percentage are but for the most part, there not into lyrically murdering someone like the younger type crowds are. just what happens when u age
RAKIM vs Kane all ages would love to see that battle. They both still hear living. All these big Willie around, support these battle for the culture. You miss hip-hop they both can take down memory lane
Old school hip hop legend right hurr.... I remember hearing Smooth Operator for the first time in high school, still one of my favs. But damn does he have a hard time looking at the camera or something lol..?
I will curse someone and anybody out..., who tells me Big Daddy Kane is not known. Back then don't have to compete with anything or anybody in 2021. We had our own style!!! Still freshing on it.
Rap Mania & Sistas of Rap.....I do remember both pay per view events in 89-90. Both of these were the initial start of the commercialization of hip-hop music. This also was around the time when consciousness rappers started to take notice of the truth behind there music. Now, commercialism of this great sound, has corrupt everthing about its origins.
The title is a bit misleading! Kane just answered a question Vlad asked him! Hardly a "I'll finally battle Rakim" Which artist good or bad wouldn't battle Rakim for a guaranteed 500G? facebook.com/MasGhiphop
The reason I'm not trippin about him saying that is cuz they're too old to be battling this late on their lives, they're both such legendary artists they absolutely nothing to prove, that time has passed
Being 40plus yr old.i would like to see the pioneers of the game get back in the ring and teacher some of the new or up and coming artist on how this game was Bron and how it was for entertaining purposes
Kane & Rakim don't wanna battle each other with juvenile lyrics, they're grown dudes, that there is old news & they've grown beyond that. It's best if they do a clever concept album, Kane, Masta Ace & Rakim feat Blackthought singing hooks & The Roots doing the music. They can call it "The Kings Of Rhyme" & they mature enough 2 rap about real subjects & life intertwined with the concept.
Big daddy Kane would stomp rakim in a freestyle. As much as I like Rakim, Kane is sharper and created the punchline and had way better wordplay. Look at Kane's freestyles, they're insane, better than Eminem in my opinion. They're both great, but Kane has this.
I always luv n still luv dmx,he's been thru so much n life but when ppl say or think negative things about him it's crazy 2 me cus I rock wit him good or bad.luv u x,stay who u r.
That cracked me up when he said "who me"? when the interviewer asked about Big Daddy Kane...cuz that's who he's talking to...that's old school. He used to be @ New Haven, CT. alot Church Street South projects...I hung out with my boy who had a aunt around there...
