There are a lot of rap beefs that have friends stay neutral like Kane did. WC stayed out of the Cube/Cypress hill beef because WC was cool with some Cypress Hill cats.I laughed just thinking of Ms. melodie carrying a tv under her arm. Since this was the 1980's I assume the tv was one of them small 13inch ones. Still a big screen popped in my head when he said that.
At the time, I was going to a catholic high school in Queens when The Bridge is Over was dropped. I remember everybody feeling......"damn! we have been dissed hard! but this beat is so good, we have to agree!" I remember as (wannabe hard) teenagers, in the 1986, it was always "embarrassing" to be Queens/Long Island or god forbid Newark,NJ. At school, kids would brag about having cousins or family members who lived in Harlem, The Bronx or Brooklyn- as if that made them cool by some association. Ha, we were so silly back then! I smile at the memories tho!
JuniorXEastNY I'm from Hempstead L.I an I'm 40 we ain't never been embarrassed abt be from L.I so I dnt know what the fuck you talking abt. Maybe yall weird niggaz from Queens, but dnt mix L.I niggaz into that shit ...
That was a wonderful interview with BDK! Growing up in the Bronx in the 70's & 80's, I've heard so many versions of this story. However, I think Big Daddy Kane's version was probably one of the best I've heard. Kane and Biz have never been about causing trouble anywwy. They're too cool for that. Lol. I did hear that MC Shan to this day, is still embittered about that loss from Kris. I would love to see all of them together on a discusiion panel one day soon.
Kane is the best rapper to touch the mic as far as signed artist known n the game world wide. This interview jus gave me more respect for em.U got hot artists right behind him such as Rakim and Nas (in that order) Kane held the top of the game (like Pac, 50, etc. did.................. The longest reigning artist was none other than Big Snoop Dogg tho...
Kane, Rakim, G Rap, KRS! Definitely the original kings of Hiphop! They can flex in any era!! If I could control anything in Hiphop? (Denis Leary Voice) It would be for them all to do a compilation album together ft guest appearances from Nas, Redman, Roc Marciano, Elzhi, Kenn Starr, Busta Rhymes, Rapsody, Ras Kass, Royce Da 5.9, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, with production from - Pete Rock, Preemo, Large Professor, Q Tip, Madlib, D J Scratch, Khrysis, Reggie Noble, 9th Wonder, Black Milk, Illmind, S1, Alchemist, Just Blaze, as well as the legendary Marley Marl! Phew....there got that off my chest.. Too much??? Not enough in my book! Hip hop...saturated and polluted as it is right now... we need something like this!!
Thomas Fulmore MC Shan the best? Are you a troll or are you high! Need I remind you who won the KRS Vs Shan beef? You cannot seriously say that Shan was a better lyricist than Kane. You watched the video! When Krs was going off at Shan. Who did the manager of the Juice Crew ask to end the battle? I was a big fan of Shan. but in that category...Nope! As for the rest! That's your opinion and you're welcome to it. I've got the truth!
Thomas Fulmore So what if Shan came out first! Busy Bee came out way before Nas, Does that make Busy Bee better..come on, that's silly! Not saying Shan, didn't have skills as I was a big follower of The Juice Crew back then, and his album "Born To Be Wild was great. But then that was it, because his third album isn't really worth mentioning! The bottomline, no way is he's on par with the likes of Rakim, Kane, G Rap and KRS! And much as I hate to say it! Kill that noise got killed by the bridge is over!!
Man I was waiting for them to go ahead to head that would have been a rememberable battle all the diss songs that would have came out both of them was lyrically Superior
vedametatron MC Shan said it got cancelled because everyone who was in the Juice Crew kept arguing over who received how much money and they just kept arguing instead of agreeing to get the film done.
I was at that can vs USA it was actually called on the flyer New York invades Canada KRS-1 battled MC rumble from Toronto it was held at the Toronto concert hall by the promoter Ron Nelson in the 80s it was the best time and hip-hop ever!
+Steviedee supermoto lol. yep. i saw them in a concert in a roller skating rink. fuck man, the 80's and 90's, nothing beats that era. remember rapcity with Michael Williams? before master T took over? Or getting a tape from a buddy who went to New york for the summer and sat buy the ghetto blaster taping Kiss FM? they didn't sell rap at Sam the record man or Mister Sound, but what we listened to we worked for. Man, times changed.
If your from Toronto in the 80s the only source of real hip-hop came from CKLN 88.1 with Ron Nelson 1 to 4 sat Ron Nelson made hip pop possible in the 80s he brought down all the rappers from New York to the concert hall honestly if it wasn't for RON Nelson like you said you would have to have a buddy who went to New York and taped DJ Red alert on Kiss or no hip hop!
+Steviedee supermoto lol. im from out west so we had nothing. maybe a university station once a week. but i remember Ron Nelson dropped a 12" about violence around the time "self destruction" dropped. think Michie Mee was on the track.
Big Daddy a kool F dude met him in the damn late 80s when I was a youngster and pimping aint easy was rocking.. He didn't have S to do with F Marley and Shan .. all that beef came from Marley not paying damn artist for the work they put in... This interviewer need to really stop F reaching and keep the big daddy kane up out of that S ya dig...Kane always been an upstanding dude...
Kane talks about being cool wit KRS but then he acknowledges he wrote Roxanne Shante's diss song to KRS, that doesn't make sense, if I was KRS, that puts you in the beef and now it's me and you too!
+eternalyfeful There were and ARE professional writers. There's so many out there that earn a sizable living ghostwriting for others; that don't mean they take a personal stake in any conflict at hand.
+Wandah Wisdom...I hear you, I'm just saying, if I was KRS and I found out Kane wrote a diss record on me, that means he must wanna get at me too. So I'm coming at you...if I was KRS.
I remember when the Greek Picnic was in Philly back in 1988. Big Daddy Kane's first album was out. Public Enemy. Chubb Rock. Boogie Down Production was dropped 🔥 it was fire in a great way in the city and everything was great and people had fun. Plus it was females actually Ladies that had those cat suits on with the holes on the side like MC HAMMERS FEMALE DANCERS. MAD RESPECT TO THE ONES I DID NOT MENTION ITS JUST SO MANY. I MISS OLD SCHOOL. IN MY OPINION THIS NEW SHIT IS BULLSHIT
McShan probably didn't like Kane because Kane was one of the hottest Lyricist ever even back then and MC Shan is mediocre to me. HE still a legend though.
Big Daddy Kane is a legend on the mic and he always carries himself like a gentlemen and to me he is underrated as a artist. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017
tochiRTA Iuno bro the beefs, the look, both skinny & small- well P is muscular now- and they both have the illest verses from Queens aside from Hav, Nas, Twin, Tradg ect... but P & Shan seem alot alike. Both also stay dope & are up to date niggas with timeless songs.
KRS choose the right Juice Crew member to battle. There was about 3-4 guys in that crew that would have killed KRS AT THE TIME. KRS turned out to be one of the greatest MCs ever tho.
Kool G Rap and Nas came after Shan so that kind of does not make Shan wack. The Bridge was a hip hop banger of legendary proportion and put Queens on the map for real. LL on the other hand was well ahead of his time and still under rated.
+craigmack2018 It's warranted here. If you had a pushy interviewer interviewing you, how would you take it? Smug or not, this rap icon played it smooth... liken to one of his hit classics. #SmoothOperator #BDK
Until KRS beat up PM dawn on stage. Lmao! KRS to this day is still out there doing his thing. Selling new cd's autographed and stuff. Covid kinda messed with everyone's game. KRS found a way around it. My show's are cancelled due to Covid? Cool. I'm gonna release some shit and sign it.
The physicality was behind the scenes. Kool herc got stabbed and coke la rock had the burner and wanted to smoke dude. Hip-Hop been violent. They said If you went into the bathroom at these first hip-hop parties they took everything from you. money, drugs, jewelry, even nice shoes or leather coats
When the bridge is over came out we in Philly went nuts. The bridge by MC Shan was so dope that track was so fly that we thought it couldn't get any better. Then KRS smashed it and nobody played it again. LOL
