The HATE for Hammer was uncalled for. This man created a pair of pants, that niccas TRULY went out, bought em & thought we were fly asf in em! Hammer has a HUGE influence on the soundtrack of my life, along with cats like Kid n Play.
Call it what y'all want but Hammer followed the greats and one of them was James Brown or should I say Michael Jackson. Hammer made it cool to be you and have fun at the same time instead of holding up the wall looking mean but 8 minutes later you asking a girl for her number but didn't hit the dance floor to bust a sweat.
Hammer was the 1st to Pop. He was bigger than NWA and Run DMC. He wasn't Westcoast gangsta rap and he wasn't Eastcoast boom bap.Hammer was everything they wanted Vanilla Ice to be.
No. Run-DMC was the 1st to pop, sell out arenas around the country, get sponsored by a major sneaker brand, appear in box office films. Let's not rewrite history.
@GranFinale Rock box was cool, but that album only sold 1 million units. Their greatest hits album sold 6.5 million units. M.C. Hammer sold 15 million I one calendar year. Run DMC barely got Adidas endorsements. M.C Hammer had Taco Bell, Adam's Family, and a Saturday morning cartoon. RUN DMC crossed over, Hammer was a Pop sensation.
@@StaplesPropertyAcquisitions Respectfully, we're not discussing numbers. Your earlier statement was, "1st to pop". That is incorrect. While Hammer was a bigger artist, Run-DMC went mainstream before him.
@Mr.Majestic77 other than L.L. Cool J no one else had mass appeal. Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and Slick Rick didn't move units the same way LL and Run DMC did
One thing we can’t do is tell Hammer 🔨 how to feel! He’s a rare breed! His word means something! As the young people say. He stand on business & I’m standing with him! Thanks Big Gipp for your perspective.
"WE KNOW WHAT I CAN'T CONTROL AND WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND I RATHER TURN MY BACK ON IT AND ACT LIKE IT AIN'T THERE" CLAISSIC!!!... Salute #BigGipp 👑💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾👑
Yeah they dont give him his respect. They take him serious because of his wardrobes but cant deny his talent..man can dance his but off. They dont give him his flowers.
ive been listening to hip hop fromnthe beginning. imn50 yrs old. when please hammer dont hurt em came out i didnt let my friends know inwas listening to it but i knew that he was gonna blow bc of the dancing bc at the time hip hop had got away from dancing and all the girls still liked dancing. recently i went back on a Hammer run .. please dont hurt em. pumps and a bump, turn this mutha out, cant touch this, pray, pump it up, lets get it started... then came with oaktown 357, yeah yeah yeah, juicy ... stop frontin... hammer had it
Hammer was that dude for real. First rapper to go diamond, dude had endorsements on top of endorsements, dolls, Saturday morning cartoons, sold out arenas, etc.
Hammer was doing it bigger then any hiphop/ rapper at that time. I never understood the hate, he opened doors that probably would've never been opened for black artists of that genre during those times.
Funny how the genius’s they called corny and disrespected turned out to be the realest ever!! Much Respect To Mc Hammer he’s done things in the rap games that still to this day hasn’t been duplicated!!
Man Hammer 🔨 was the truth and I remember at the Prom his songs were in heavy rotation. They wouldn’t let the Dj play anything else . And i live in S.C. lol
Hammer was definitely hip hop he just made most rappers stop walking while performing and to give 100% of a effort to give All Fans their money worth at every show and then no group or solo rapper wanted to follow him in a concert so they made him go last that’s when a lot of the hating started (JEALOUSY) 100 !!!! Sad but true
The hate was based on what it always is.... The "Crab" syndrome! We love the underdog til they're on top and then the hate begins. When will we learn there is enough for everyone to eat! Stop allowing them to pit us against each other over B.S.!!! United we Stand! Divided we Fall every time.
They called Hammer for numberous events and he turned it down. And the hate for Hammer was from EVERYBODY, not just the East Coast. Ice Cube, King T, Ice T., Too Short and others went at him too.
It wasn't just NY. The West Coast dissed Hammer too. The whole game needs to recognize what he brought to the game. Same with Sir Mix A lot there is no song bigger then "Baby got Back"
Now I see why B High got Gipp on the show, its to low key go at Wicked. First Gipp went at Wicked about the Flute Album now Gipp is giving MC Hammer his flowers. I can only imagine how Wicked feels 😂😂
I'm from Oakland. It was a lot of Oakland and L.A. rappers like NWA too short etc that was hating on Hammer. Too short always spoke bad on Hammer cause he felt hammer wasn't real hip hop. Ice cube as well dogged hammer. We the only race that hate on each other.
Out of all my friends back then. I use to play Hammer and and Ice , Ice Baby and they use to clown me sometimes. Everything don't got to be Gangster Rap all the time. Shit , I kept playing my shit. Plus I'm the only one driving ,lol
Hip hop was ignorant and Hammer paid the price. But all them rappers took checks and did commercials after him need to pay hammer residuals. He didn't just open the doors he exploded them. Cartoon, commercials, action figures. movie cameos, etc. Hammer tool hip hop to the stadiums. Would love to see hammer do some interviews though.
Why the hate? Because he blew up in the middle of the "no sell-out" hiphop purist era. Hammer's corporate deals were massive so he became the sell-out punchline diss magnet on wax in interviews etc etc.
