This has got to be the best explanation video I have seen regarding the BGE XL…no fancy production, no extra long intro, just really good explanation of of the expander system. Thank you! Well done!
Yes! I now use the expander system with the pizza stone as a deflector instead of the plate setter/convector and get much better results for my cooks. I think it does keep more direct heat from the grill set up as in ribs etc.
This is the exact reason I almost purchased a Kamado Joe, although the price is higher initially. Had there been a local dealer, I might have gone that way. As you rightfully call out, you must purchase every accessory. However, if you do make the jump into the land of the BGE; eventually you will pick all those accessories up over time; and hopefully this episode helps understand which items might be worthwhile investing in.
Great video. I prefer the accessories from The Ceramic Grill Store in TX. They came out with these systems and BGE copied them. The stuff from The Ceramic Grill Store is stainless and made in the USA. The BGE products are typically sourced from “low-cost” countries where I would rather not support. Of course, I am a US Citizen. Others may think differently.
I have seen their stuff and it looked great. I wish it was local that I could go put my hands on. But from what I’ve seen online and through other videos, it does look like they have fantastic products!
The Egg isn't cheap for sure, and the accessories in my mind should be included, but the warranty cannot be beat. I've already replaced the base and the firebox free of charge. In the long run - it's cheaper than other type grills that eventually rust and need to be replaced. But I do understand your comment as it isn't cheap.
I picked up a lightly used big green egg large from a guy on marketplace for $450. Its much better than buying a $250-$600 grill that rusts out every 3-5 years. This will last 40 years more probably. Also cheap metal grills probably have lots of toxins getting smoked in your food. Just food for thought.
