Keep in mind the Nefertari family is special because they're the only one of the 20 families that originally founded the world government who did not relocate to Mariejois. This on its own certainly doesn't explain Im's choice, but wanted to point it out in case you forgot. Also, I will say, if Crocodile was able to figure out the location of Pluton was hidden on a Poneglyph in Alabasta, I don't see why the world government couldn't also have managed that. Especially if they've been sus of the Nefertari family this whole time. Again doesn't explain, but feels relevant.

When I rewatched this arc I remember thinking "What does Doctorine's shirt say" and realizing she's proudly displaying "that's right you dumbass kings and queens, my son is a fierce wanted man with a bounty of $100" with that shirt warmed my heart so much.

My theory about Luffy's mom is that she is/was a Celestial Dragon and was killed by other Celestial Dragons because she fell in love with Dragon. This incident made Dragon form the Revolutionary army and actively fight the WG.

Oh man Korotos, you probably didn't know about the cover serials in the manga. These one page stories detail events that happen after the Straw Hats leave a place. They are important to the story because they show what certain characters are doing. Some early ones were adapted into episodes like Koby and Helmeppo's training under Garp and Buggy's misadventures after Orange town. Some more got adapted while others which are important won't. One cover serial was about the aftermath of the CP9 saga that showed that Spandam made the agents his scapegoats and the marines did try to erase them but got their butts kicked. Lucci and the gang left for parts unknown so when they reappeared as CP0, manga fans just thought the government decided to forgive their mess because it was better to have them as top tier guards than rogue assets. Also the place Peachbeard attacked featured in another serial with Ace's search for Blackbeard. All in all, I would suggest you go read the cover serials for more context, they also get a good laugh outta me.

I completely understand people thinking that Sabo was never planned until the last minute, but fun fact: if you go back to the loguetown chapters, you can clearly see the back of a top hatted figure that looks just like Sabo around the execution scene

I don't think Doffy is planning anything. I look at it more like he is a narrator that gives a little insight into the bigger picture. He knows more about Mariesjois than we do, I genuinely think he is excited to watch how everything will play out.

you completely missed that vivi's family is technically celestial dragons, understandable alot happened in that mini arc hard to soak it all in.

This arc boasts my personal favorite moment in all of Post-Time-Skip: Mjosgard saving Shirahoshi. The idea that even Celestial Dragons are still human and capable of seeing the error of their ways and changing, the fact that Otohime's ideals actually did come around and make a real difference...

Oda shows how cp9 survives and get promoted in the manga, also while the passing in the anime feels slow, in the manga is the complete opposite. I had to stop reading multiple times since Marineford to process everything cuz Oda wasn't even giving me time to breath.

Even before this arc I've always been suspicious of alabasta and NEW it will come back because the fact that the nefertati family are one of the 20 original Kingdoms that created the world government but refused to go to mariejoise AND keep in secret a phoneglyph that happens to be the one indicating the position of a ancient weapon, is something that Oda would elaborate at some point (but I also had this theory because I wanted to see vivi again but that's not the point)

the idea for the straw hat that i think has the strongest chance of being true is that it is uranus, but that it is also, like you said, reacting to the world and showing what is most dangerous to Imu. The idea comes from the thought that every ancient weapon is related to a branch of haki. pluton destroys islands and is a big armored battle ship, reminiscent of armament haki. poseidon can command the sea kings like conqueror's haki controls animals. maybe uranus is like observation haki, and can see the future and/or see what is most dangerous to the viewer. also, imu is probably not short for immortal. the characters that makeup the name imu, when rearranged (there are two, so just flip them) can be read as "buddha". makes sense that the final villain of the series about fighting gods (eneru, doffy, etc.) would end with fighting a god. this especially makes sense when you consider the inspiration for Luffy (and naruto and goku and damn near every shounen protagonist) is Sun Wukong, aka the guy that got his ass kicked by buddha and left under a mountain for 500 years. it makes sense to me that this is Oda's line of thought I think.

Reverie was honestly the arc that single hadnedly made me OBSESSED with One PIece. Arlong Park was the one that got me into One Piece, Alabasta got me invested. but damn Reverie? foreshadowing? politics? FUCK YEAHHH

Im is also written as Imu in the English translation of the manga Which may be speaking to Japanese phonetic pronouciation for Im But there is also the possibility that Imu backwards is Umi, which is the word for sea

When Oda was asked about the main characters' moms he said: "I see. Well. The answer is simple. That's because "Mother" is the antonym for "Adventure"." so I could totally see her not being relevant at all. Especially since Oda supposedly told Luffy's voice actor this: "Luffy's adventure began after he left his mother's arms. I want to tell this young man's story, so [his] mom is not part of it,". 1. So I wouldn't be surprised if we never see her in the show. 2. I could also easily see Dragon having a flashback but Luffy not caring enough to hear about his mom. 3. I could even see Luffy knowing his mom and just don't mentioning her because no one has ever asked him. 4. She could definitely be a mystery that can be dealt with in the future though. My favorite theory is that she was Garp's daughter and Dragon is Rocks' son. Dragon and Rocks look pretty similar, and Garp has never outright referred to Dragon as his son, he simply says that Luffy is "his kid's kid". That would mean that Roger's successor is the product of his two greatest enemies, kind of neat in my mind. It would also mean Blackbeard carries Luffy's grandfather's will in the same way that Luffy carries Ace's father's will, truly proving that it isn't about blood, it's about the mindset.

I don't think that Im's inclusion came too late in the story. They first appeared in chapter 906 and OP will probably go on for another 4-5 years. By that logic there's still 200-250 chapters to flesh things out which would put Im's introduction at around 3/4 through the story.

1/2 Imu is the Dark Sun Theory: I believe that while Luffy represents the Sun/freedom and Blackbeard Darkness/chaos/entropy, Imu, along side Father from FMA, represents in some ways the symbols of the Dark Sun. Now the Dark Sun represents a lot of things depending on who you ask but in this case I'll focus on the following three: One) In some cases the Dark sun represents a bastardizing or dark reflection of the qualities of the Sun. To put it simply the sun represents life, natural order or in other words moral order, people living and letting others live. This in a way is represented in Luffy, who wants to be the most free man in the sea, sets free islands/nation that lived under authoritarian regimes, has the powers of the sun god nika and has a straw hat that looks like the sun. The Dark Sun, Imu, represents a twisted artificial version of order and a bastardization of life. Instead of an order maintain by morality/people living in harmony by choice he creates an order maintained by authoritarianism and violence, in other words a false artificial/man made "order" design and envisioned by him. Second) the Dark Sun represents what one would call the hidden hand or the power behind the throne that actually controls all from the shadows. While the archetypal good king (that wears a crown representing the sun and it's rays, or in this case a straw hat) leads his people in the open, maintains peace and harmony and is the embodiment of Morality, a dark/hidden ruler, like Imu, or Father in FMA, keeps her/himself in the shadows controling everything behind the scenes since he/she would know that in order to effectively control a population the last thing you would want is for everyone to know your face and thus the type of person you are in case they don't want to be ruled by you any longer. Better to have a front man or a bunch of somewhat benevolent kings that are easy to manipulate or take out and have the people focus on them. If they f'ck up, like Doflamingo or that guy from Drum Island, all you have to do is replace them with someone more likeable and the people will be content and non the wiser. And third) in a way it represents the attempt of becoming some type of artificial/substitute god figure that replaces the idea of a universal life giving unseen God due to seeing themselves as a god, as a superior being or in other words: having a huge god complex. Both Imu and Father keep themselves hidden from the world. This is to give themselves a sense of separation from the rest of humanity and increases their sense of superiority/godhood and since they are unseen when controling the rest of the nation/world it makes them feel like the unseen but ever present god that controls everything. The quote that extenuates all this factors is the one Father says when he's about to absorb "God" in the series climax: "I will no longer be bound to you and your consequences" This means that he, and probably Imu as well, doesn't want to be bound and limited to the Natural/Universal/Moral Laws of life, of the universe. He sees himself as superior to all life and thus belives that he should be the one to decide the laws everyone obeys, the laws that control life, the laws theat decide what is Moral and immoral. He wants to be god and thus desires to eliminate the real God/the Truth/Morality, or in he's case absorbe Him, and become/substitute Him as a new false god.

From what I understand, they don't do filler arcs anymore since they get less viewership, and companies pay to have ads specifically played when a new One Piece episode is released, weekly. I don't know how much truth there's to that, but I can see how that'd come to be, since One Piece is really crazy in Japan and could indeed make a dent in viewership.

I agree about Sabo, I do actually like him as a character overall but I do think that Oda basically wanted to have his cake and eat it too by killing Ace yet having a backup Ace ready to slot back into the story

Man as someone who has only read and not watched the series after the timeskip, its incredible to me that they managed to apparently throw offthe pacing of probably the most dense arc in the series so far

Strawhats won't attack Mariejois unless the World Noble took captive their friends. That being said, Luffy already declared war with the World Government in Enies Lobies, to let Robin knows that her enemies are also Strawhat's enemies. There are differences between pirate faction and the revolutionary faction. Although, these 2 factions are enemies to the World Government and the Marine, they have different motivations. Most pirates don't care about politics and the system. They just want to be pirate, ie to be free from law and order, to be able to do anything and some want to be the King of Pirates. Revolutionary however are not pirates, they just want to change the current system as they see, it is corrupted. There are good people in every factions and there are bad people in every factions too. It depends on their moral values and motivation. That is why I love One Piece. I can understand their reasons for being who they are.

2/2 Your theory on Imu being imortal goes in hand with my second theory on him, however there are sooilers for future chapters do beware: 2/2 Imu is an evil D theory: I think Imu is another evil member of the D clan but one from the void century that's still alive. My reasons for this relate to my theory on Imu symbolizing the Dark Sun that I wrote on Mr Morj's last video on Imu. Long story short while Luffy is the Sun and Teach/Blackbeard is Darkness, Imu is the Dark Sun, the currupted ruler that controls the world like a false god from behind the scenes illuminati style. In turn this would make him a currupted version of the ideals symbolized by the sun, aka Luffy, and thus another evil version of him aka another evil D. This may be supported by the possible fact that just like Enel is a proto version of Imu so may be the case with Roxx D Xebec, who may symbolize a failed attempt to become a Dark Sun/ ruler of the world since that's what he literally tried to do. So if Enel is connected to Imu by the fact that they're both god like figures that rule over their respective worlds from afar then there's a possibility that Roxx, an evil D who tried to become the king of the world but failed, serves as a hint that the one who actually does rule the world is also an evil D. Now why do I think Imu may be from the void century? Throughout the series we've had various characters that truly represent the symbol of the Sun, aka the king of the pirates, the most free man in the world and all of them are from the D clan. There's of course Luffy the current hero of the story who literally has the powers of a sun god, there's Roger who was the hero of the previous generation who symbolizes the sun via his affiliation to gold (Gol-D Roger) which is the metal that represents the sun and also had the straw hat and there's the possible hero of the void century, the original Joy Boy who is probably the orignial D if not the main D of his time and probably the king/head of the forgotten kingdom of the VC wich was probably a kingdom of free sea fearing pirates, aka the D clan that was probably called the Kingdom of the Dawn (See Joy Boy's theory and Library of Ohara's theory videos on this subject). We also know that both Luffy and Roger had to face evil members of the D clan that served as their evil counterparts: Luffy has Blackbeard and Roger had Roxx. So following that pattern that would mean that Joy Boy also had an evil D to deal with who I believe is Imu, who unlike the last evil D (Xebec) won against Joy Boy and went of to create the World Government and is somehow still alive after century.

Oh and Sanji having the raid suit can is 100% badass. Damn he just can't do anything to please you can he? Justice for Sanji!

Now we just need to see Luffy's mom to determine if their entire family is stocked full of important figures.

As someone with an abusive father, having some sort of thing in the story like the can with the germa suit in it represents a lot. I can see how later on Sanji is going to use it in order to realize him using his family’s creations does not mean he owes them anything or makes up for what they put him through

I think the frozen straw hat is misdirection, not to say it doesn't have any significance, but when Doffy speaks about a "secret treasure" I think the most logical conclusion is that Im himself IS that treasure. No one would bat an eye after knowing that there is a secret frozen straw hat in marijoa, while instead if people knew that there is a secret king of the world, the world would plunge into chaos and civil war. Which also makes us take a guess about what was Doffy's plan to rule the world: get the Ope Ope, secretly switch his "personality" with Im then become immortal. He would've become the king of the world with none the wiser.

I remember now that what makes Reverie great is not just the lore dumps and reveals, but how bizarre some of the reveals are, specifically the one about the giant straw hat. The tone of some of this reveals seems very unlike One Piece

Nice memory, yea that giant guy revolution commander is the one who made level 5.5 of Impel Down. And an important distinction to make Ace was not the 2nd in command of the Whitebeard Pirates. He was commander of the 2nd division with a grand total of 16 divisions and an equal amount of commanders. So Ace was on par with others like Diamond Jozu and Marco the Phoenix but not above them. Funny how you left out Bonney's appearance in this arc. That she looks like the queen of the Sorbet Kingdom and cares about Kuma. Not that it matter anymore, since manga readers know what's going on between them now.

I don't think a lack of build up will be a problem with Im since we already got some pretty decent build up in the curent manga , and considering we just started the final saga , and how it's almost guaranteed to be at least 100-200 chapters additional chapters , I think Im will have enough time to be a good villain

For the members of CP9 who joined CP0, there is a mini story in the manga goes over what happened to CP9 after Enies Lobby. In actuality, the members of CP9, except for Spandam, were on the run from the WG. Spandam blamed all the CP9 assassins, except himself of course, for causing not only the Straw Hats to escape but also activating the Buster Call and bombing Enies Lobby out of existence. It resulted the assassin to be in the run afterwards. However the story ends with Lucci calling Spandam on a Den Den Mushi, promising they would come back for revenge. Obviously there is probably more to this, but that has yet to be explained by Oda. My guess is either Lucci blackmailed the WG some secrets to be leaked if they didn’t stop chasing them, or the WG made an offer to return during the 2 year time skip, since Lucci was their best assassin at CP9 and didn’t want to make him their enemy. That’s my guess though.

The recaps and flashbacks of this arc got so bad on the anime this is the point I just abandoned it, and went full manga. Before this point I sometimes headed for the manga up to the point I got caught up, then confined the anime, but by this point my patience was gone.
