I'd just do the job. The person was probably scared to bring attention to the horses condition. Afraid of being judged and being charged with neglect. Like in the comments.
Any animal owners that don’t get treatment for their animals as soon as they see something wrong with their animal and get them medical treatment don’t deserve to have them, they hurt too Bless all animals ✝️
You have got to be one of the kindest knowledgeable farriers around..I marvel at how you work to repair what others would just say send to slaughter or euthanize..thank you for caring and teaching..that is what owners need the most - someone to teach them
Thank you for all you do for these animals, people shouldn’t have them if they can’t gave them the full care they need and deserve, well done to you all 👏👏❤️❤️
I grew up farming with animals. We raised hogs for sale, chickens for our own use, mules and horses to work and a milk cow. We farmed with the horses and mules until I left home for the Navy in the 70’s. I can’t believe the owners aren’t fined and the animals taken away. My Grandfather and I did the hoof maintenance. Every so often we had it done by a professional in case our continuous labors were allowing errors to go unchecked. If you can’t afford to have it done then you should learn how as we did or not own the animals.
I do not know much about horses however I think I have never seen a horse hoof like this before, And as you said if this is not attended to it would only create more problems for the horse in the long run, I think that it is an exquisite job that you do, With so much conflict and disasters happening around the world, Not much time is taken to think about the animals that are in pain and that we are creating an unsteady world for, I am a great animal lover and I do not like to see any animal come of harm or in pain, I thank you so very much for helping this poor animal out and do what you do is an excellent job, again thank you so very much.👍
For anyone making harsh judgements and presumptions. Many of these horses are in very poor rural areas. Their owners cared enough to call a farrier. Remember that! Perhaps they had to save up to pay for that. Because it’s a poor rural area these animals are probably very much needed work animals for their owners. Please stop commenting like every horse owner has to be a rich person who can call an expensive vet or “they don’t deserve the horse!” Poor people can care about their animals too. What’s more, it’s the poor people working with their animals to make a living that actually NEED the animal. Not the rich snobs with pasture “pets”
thank you, there are really many cases that are like that, and a veterinarian around here is not cheap at all, often a consultation and care costs around 1 minimum wage, but there are also rich people who hire people to take care of animals, and these people they don't take care of it properly, and there are cases that in the pasture the animal ends up hurting itself by playing or scratching itself and ends up hurting itself badly...
They also tend to make the assumption that the animal wasn't recently bought in that condition. That the animal wasn't owned by an elderly person that died, and no one could take the animal until the probate process concluded. Or that the animal wasn't able to hide it's condition from the owners. S%^t happens. In the rainy season you might not be able to get a truck across the pasture for months, or see damage like that to a foot because it's covered in sticky clay. People don't allow stuff like that on purpose, and ones that will would never call a farrier anyway - so it wouldn't be on video.
Don't be hard in the "rich people" as the fact that they have the ability to pay the vets and farriers that allow those same people to offer discounted care since they can still make a living. Having been around horses all my life, I can truthfully say this hoof was not that bad, I have seen much worse heal beautifully.
You do not wrap a hoof with white line disease. The pathogens that cause it are anaerobic so the best thing you can do to kill them is keep them exposed to the air.
You know that has to hurt. Glad you are fixing it. I would find the owner of the animal and offer to help pay for the hoof to be fixed. No hoof no horse!
I’d want to try to get a shoe on it if there was enough hoof to hold it. I’d also want to trace the white line disease as far as I could, treat and stop it from spreading. It looks to me though more like an abscess came through the coronary band. Personally I’d want a shoe on that to prevent further injury, however that is not always a realistic option.
First I think the owner of the horse needs to keep a better eye on his horses . This poor horse this must have be going on for a long time. You really really know your business. You are a very good with these horses
I think if the owner was there I would ask what happened in as none judgemental way as I could. Id try to get them talking to get an idea of how they feel about the horse and horses generally, the horses story...I would do this to see the deeper reasons behind the horse not having the help it needs and or if they 'care'. This is what Id base my next move on.
No, you really need to take a look at the owners of this horse how they never took care of it and don't care for it really, really? You do that to your own children too
Hello from the Pacific Northwest of the USA! The first thing I'd do if I saw a hood like this is cry...if only because this poor horse had a terrible time walking. The pain must have been unbearable.
What is that thing on the horse's other leg? Could it be some kind of parasite? Thank you for your great work in helping this Nobel Beast and restoring it's hoof. I think it is so sad that the owner allows the horse's hoof get it this state. I think about the horse's after they are born are lifted to a standing position and remain standing for the rest of their lives and only lie down when they are dying. Having to stand on a painful hoof like this until men like you restore their hoof, you do a great service to these Horses and other horse related animals like the Donkey.
I wonder if something like the Corona salve would help the hoof grow better. It seems so dry! It’s not only antiseptic, it encourages healing. Just wondering. Really great stuff.
OMG THAT'S A TERRIBLE LOOKING HOOF I'M NOT A HOOF PERSON BUT I'VE BEEN AROUND ENOUGH OF THEM TO SAY OMG ,THE POOR ANIMAL! AND YOUR DOING HIM GOOD ! WAY TO GO !!!
I’m able to make sure my horses and donkey get regularly scheduled vet and farrier visits, but I’m aware that for some people it’s difficult. If someone is barely paying for their own food, they might be very well aware that the animal has a problem but are doing well to keep it fed. All of us have gone through hard times. If the owner has been ill they might not know what’s happening. I’ve had long COVID for 3 years, and have had weeks when I couldn’t get out of bed. I’m lucky to have a husband who loves the animals and cares for them when I can’t. Not everyone is in my situation. I think my husband kind of likes it when I’m not leaving the farm much because I have a habit of bringing home anything that looks lost or hungry. I don’t have a lot of extra $$$ but we do donate pet food to the local food bank every month. Just something to consider if you want to help out. PS…. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to maintain my pastures and remove hazards. My horses can still hurt themselves.
I would offer a couple of rounds of care for the horse at no charge...I own horses that I do all care for including trimming...I can do shoes when necessary but keep mine all barefoot. I also do 2 for a friend that has trouble financially
That hoof is laminitic, you can tell by the ridges and overall abnormal appearance of the hoof wall. This horse needs some very detailed trimming and shodding. This horse didn't end up like this overnight, this is months of no hoof, medical and feed care.
With the narration on these videos, it's constantly reflected that it's no big deal. But it's painfully obvious, these animals are grossly neglected, by allowing these problems progress to such a state. Without any early intervention. This is cruelty to animals, with gross negligence.. Shame on the owner's of these animals, they should face criminal charges....
In some cases it is carelessness on the part of the owner, I agree with you, but in other cases it is carelessness on the part of caregivers, lack of labor and grooming professionals, or even very mischievous and playful animals that end up getting tangled up and hurting each other badly...
Where is the medicine? You know that he is hurting. Please put something to make the foot soft the hoof is not well would you like to walk with your foot cracked like that? I will not watch until the animals have medicine. Why is it that all of the horse’s feet are harsh looking and. Dry? Thank you for trying to help the horses and try to learn. God bless you.
I dnt understand why the owner would allow it to get to that point. Horses need regular hoof care and if you can’t provide that then sell the horse to someone who can. That looks painful
😮 I would do what you're doing I find a furrier and have them fix his hooves they're just like toenails they hurt just as well as your I would find somebody to fix
I would have no idea of what to do, call for help is first as though i did own 2 horses as a youngster, my parents paid for n kept on top of anything physical. I was very young, n know much more now,my first look would make me call for help.
If you cannot afford to take care of a horse you should NOT own a horse. It doesn’t matter if one is rich or poor - horses cost money to maintain! If you don’t have the money to pay for resources (farriers, vets, feed, etc) don’t own a horse! And no matter how cheerful the narrator is, a sugar coated turd is still a turd!
This horse needs better nutrition first. Farriers need to stop using this “post” type of stand and go to something more stable for both horses and fairrier
That horse needs antibiotics and it needs medical attention. Just taking a half off is not gonna hear the problem with that horse that’s infected and some kind of way you can see it.
