Big Tractor Power is out in the field with three 420 hp John Deere 9420R 4wds and big 30 inch disk blade Wishek 826NT Disks. In this video we climb up in the cab of the John Deere 9420R 4wd and ride along as well as learning about the technology that drives the tractors and the cropping process these big machines are involved in.

You would love my area. Our soil is black. Nice rich earth with just the right mix of sand and clay. Extremely fertile. When it's freshly plowed you can smell it for miles. You can toss a seed from any thing and in a week have growth. Perfect farm land.

They move fast. They finished corn on 9/21 and started disking on 9/21. There was a 9 day rain delay so they have to cover ground as fast as possible to get the seeders in the field.

You need to come to Southern Wisconsin sometime corn silage is getting finished up Corn Harvest is getting going good what it's not raining the manure pit crew will be starting up sometime soon it's definitely not glamorous but to see them goal in the equipment they have some pump up to at least 5 miles or more simi portable holding tanks land spreading and knifing it into the ground

Are you sure these are 9420Rs? You never showed us the model number in the video. When I can’t see the model number I kinda assume it’s the smallest tractor like a 9360R until I am proven wrong.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 лет назад
I am 100% certain they are 9420Rs. I spend all year following these tractors up close. Is there any reason that you believe I would miss represent a model number? I will say I would love to see a 9370R or the older 9360R as they are in the rare side. 9420Rs are pretty common so if I found an entry level 9R I would be very excited to see it and share it.

Why does the farm have one challenger tractor, is it because the operator wants a challenger?
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 лет назад
The farm has a 1,000 acre field that is pretty swampy. In the fall of 2000 it was extra wet and they demoed a Case IH 9380 Quadtrac. The farm purchased a 2001 Case STX440 after the demo. In 2004 the STX440 was traded for a John Deere 9620T. The farm did not like the ride of the 9620T. In 2006 the 9620T was traded for a Challenger MT865B. The farmer has been the operator of all these track tractors. He really liked the MT865B. In 2008 the MT865B was traded to a MT875B, in 2011 to an MT875C, 2013 an MT875C, 2015 to an MT875C and in 2017 to this MT875E.

@adam8347 6 лет назад
how does the farm distinguish between each 9420R? there has to be someway to mark them with an id number in case there is an issue with one of them. Just curious as I did not see in video.

There must be some really big farms out in West Kentucky and wealthy people with all that big equipment lol
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 лет назад
There are some large farms from 50,000 to 30,000 acres. Several in the 15,000 to 10,000 acre range as well. There is a crop advantage in WKY that helps farms. #1 is the ability to crop half the farm with two crops in one season with wheat and soybeans. So if you have 1,000 acres of wheat ground as soon as the wheat is harvested you plant soybeans behind the combine and gain 1,000 acres of soybeans. So if you have 2,000 acres of ground with half in corn and the other half in wheat/soybeans you are cropping 3,000 acres in a year. #2 many of these farms raise tobacco. 1 acre of tobacco is equal to 100 acres of corn.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 лет назад
The farm tried out a Degelman Pro-Till. Maybe you will see shirt disks phased in down the road. Right now they use the Wisheks. The farm bought the first of the 7 Wisheks in 2003 and the 7th one was added in 2017.

The farm only had 3 26ft disks so only three 9420Rs disk. The farm uses four 9420Rs to run the Kinze grain carts and to rip ground after soybean harvest. The tractors are traded each spring. When the trade is made one machine is carried over to run 5 Kinze 24 row corn planters. For example in March 2018 to plant corn the farm had four 2018 9420Rs and one 2017 model. When corn planting is done the one 2017 9420R heads to the dealer.

The GPS screen has grid lines marked on the screen for the distance you set, there is a grid line and all the driver has to do is turn and follow the line and that will be 26 feet from the next line, the tractor following sees the same lines.
@henrymiller1820

Ive said it before and I'll say it again; 05:49 that tiny 100 years decal by John Deere is simply pathetic. I love John Deere and they have much to be proud of in 100 years. There was corn in the field before the harvest. At tillage time Weeda and volunteer corn are the green plants you might see as the disks plow the ground.

There are no ninety, seventy, or eighty anything in the vid. They are all, nine, eight, or seven, R series john deere tractors.

I have interviewed John Deere corporate product managers on these tractors and I am pronouncing these model numbers the same way they do.

I have not heard of any problems with the 9Rs. There are hundreds here in WKY and all the farmers seem more than satisfied with them.

This field was harvested in mid August. Temperatures remain in the 80’s and 90’s here in Kentucky through late October when many area ate just getting into corn harvest good. In many areas corn is harvested after frost so you never see the lost corn sprout. The volunteer corn is a big sign of combine loss and the weather in Western Kentucky allows the loss to be very visible. All farms corn fields in the region look this way by early October regardless of combine brand. All combines lose some grain and if the weather is warm enough the loss will show up with a volunteer crop. If the weather is cold at harvest you will never see the re-growth and it all looks perfect.

One word OVERKILL we put such thing on 200Hp around here that is the biggest tractor you find at farmers and otherwise by contractors that go to 300Hp but our biggest tractor is 145Hp
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 6 лет назад
What type of soil do you have? Western Kentucky has red clay soil and 420 hp on a 30 inch blade is a good match for this 26ft disk. There is no way a 145 hp tractor could run a 26ft Whisek here.
@drewl4762
@drewl4762 6 лет назад
We can pull a 30ft disk with our 4650 but it's very very shallow and she struggles across the field. With a 26ft running at 8in deep there is no way it would pull that thing.
@mossjones7375
@mossjones7375 5 лет назад
300hp🤔 u might stretch the ground alittle with one of those disk...145hp just to pull it down the road 😀
