dude thanks for showing me how scratch up and damage someones out drive by droping it all over the concrete..i loved the noise of the trim rams clanking on the ground wtf?
mainly the whole drive units im talking aboutand the right ways of doing it I knew you guys are good at Mercruiser sterndrive repairs and I knew that's my 1st bayliner is the Capri 2050LS that is the boat I'll be getting in Australia from mick James walker from Australia
Great video! I have a four winns 180 and I want to store in my garage but it is slightly longer than the garage. If i take the lower end off it will fit. Will it be any damage to the drive shaft or the lower unit if i store it that way? We have cold winter here. Temperature can go down -40C sometimes but normally around -20 outside
I'm pretty sure my exhaust is clogged up on mine, starts and revs great out of water and as soon as it's in the water takes full throttle to start and wont rev past 2.5 k . You ever have this problem? What would be a good way of going about cleaning the exhaust?
No need to disconnect any cables If you look under / behind the drive unit you will see why this makes sense to put it in F - Just make sure the gear / shift dog is inthe same position when you re-install it.
I have the whole outdrive off with the Gimbal housing connected still. On the gear linkage,,, Should the cable shaft be fully in or fully extended to be in forward? Thanks!
You were a bit rough with it...but I dont think the point of the video was to be gentlr. It was to remove the sterndrive which I think you covered. Wonder how hard reassembly will be.
I got my alpha one drive off. Had to put in a different engine and the spline is not alined now as to be expected. So i am trying to put it back in but my boat is not up high enough to have it be a straight shot in as it is hitting the ground. Can it be put back in with it being tilted up some, and can I hit it in with a rubber mallet or a dead hammer or do i have to drive it to a place were its able to be down all the way. its muddy from lots of rain and hopping i do not have to move it, but will find a way if thats whats best.
+R Reichel you need to make sure the motor is aligned properly before any thing can go back on. Otherwise lower the front of the trailer to raise back of boat
I have a pre alpha that I'm trying to remove,I followed your video steps, didn't quite work,I got it to budge an 1/8 of an inch, after that ,it seems to be stuck, can you give me any tips,,,Thanks
Did you figure it out? I also have a pre alpha and need to replace the bellows "boots". Please let me know if you did and how its done. Much appreciate it
im getting a bayliner2050LS boat in the future I need to know how to remove the drive leg on the sterndrive and I need a bit of advice on how to do it right for the 1st time im from Australia and I knew this will help me greatly and also I need to know how to flush the Mercruiser engines its going to do a lot of saltwater usage from mick James walker
Can u remove this after taking the engine out before putting the shifter in a forward position? That’s the issue in having the sob is half way off and won’t fully come off
Big Kid Powersports Thanks for the quick response. This is the first time doing this on my 350 CID Merc w/ Alpha one outdrive. I have the unit drained, trim cylinders detached, and the six nuts removed from the outdrive, shift is in the forward position. The unit is loosened. I stopped here. So I just have to pull it off from here? Appreciate your help.
+Life's Adventures Yes, just pull it off from there. If it give you any trouble, you are not missing anything - sometimes the shaft can rust into the engine coupler (if bellows had a leak etc) so if it does not come of smoothly, keep trying :)
This video needs to be renamed to: How NOT to remove alpha 1. Get a lower unit jack. I turned a transmission jack into a lower unit jack and works great.
WOW.... an extension.... really. I am a millwright by trade and have never used an extension for a punch. This was a pretty rough removal. Stay away from my boat!!!!
