In that scene when Marcus and Alex were together and then Marcus got hit in the face with all that smoke, that was the shadowlands aka Thantos, he took over Marcus's shadow. That's why Marcus was the only one with a dark shadow , it was Thantos.
Hey girlies, just a note, the reason that it was so easy for Alex to be manipulated by Thantos also has to do with the fact that the moon is half in darkness, i think Miranda even says as much to her, so she's connected to the darkness, its her blindspot, which is why she NEEDS her sister, and I think that's really cool lore. Also, there was an alternate ending that reveals that Miranda also has a twin sister and she also had an eclipse pendant she reveals that one of the girls takes after her, which was supposed to tease Twitches 3, but that never happened cause the sisters got busy with life, but they have expressed an interest in a revival where they are grown and have kids, and people really like Chloe and Halle Bailey for the next generation of twitches.
