They are one of my favorite fish to catch and eat, amazing sushimi. They can be very unpredictable twice I've had them make 90 or 180 degree turns on me leaving me winding for my life! Awesome fish.

When fish get stuck in the rocks loosen the drag alot and often times the fish will run itself out and also w less tension on the line you are less likely to cut the braid.

I would be like a little kid there. There's a lure that you might like for that spot, it's call a Shimano Colt Sniper. We change the trebles hooks out for more heavy duty treble hooks sometimes for bigger bluefin tuna. You might not have to, but I would. They really cast far easy, and all fish love them.

Spanish Makerels are a group of fish within a larger family of fishes, there are many Spanish Mackerel. Dont give in to the Americans demanding the Atlantic Spanish Mackerel is the only one. What you caught is a Narrow Barred Spanish Mackerel, the King Mackerel is different species in the same 'tribe' sub classification of fishes, found in the Atlantic Ocean. The Narrow Barred Spanish is found in Southern Pacific and Indian Ocean. A few other types of Spanish Mackerel are: Japanese Spanish Mackerel, West African Spanish Mackerel, Monterrey Spanish Mackerel, Serra Spanish Mackerel. There are other fish in the sub class that are 'Spanish Mackerels' but their names do not include the title, such as the Kanadi Kingfish. Main point is, given the locality its fine to just call it a Spanish or Mackie or whatever you want, 'Spanish Mackerel' is actually plural and 'Spanish Mackerels' anyone demanding their local genetic variant is the only true one is uninformed.
