I never realized till watching it back how much Big Mom feels like a Studio Ghibli villain.

I didnt notice it on my watchthrough personally, but seeing pudding already is a foreshadowing MASTERPIECE

I like that immediately after hearing that Aokiji was alive but he is now a deserter of the Navy, jack’s immediate reaction was saying that Luffy should recruit him. Who else thought that when they saw this in the anime or manga?

Big mom is still one of my favorite reveals, there’s just something about her, and I think a big reason is the massive Ghibli villain vibes she gives off.

I noticed that Big Mom's voice is different compared to later episodes, so I checked the One Piece wiki and found out it is a different voice actress. In this episode, she was voiced by Toshiko Fujita, while in later episodes, she is voiced by Mami Koyama.

Also, R.I.P. her initial voice actress Toshiko Fujita (known for voicing Taichi Yagami in Digimon Adventure). This episode was her only time voicing Big Mom so next time we [you] hear Big Mom, Big Mom will have a new voice actress.

The Wall Piece working is better build up than the actual One Piece

Hordy and his crew aging like that is a reference to an old Japanese folktale about a boy who visited an undersea palace and stayed several days and when he left he was given a gift called the temate box and he should not open it, which he did once he got home and it aged him 100 years instantly. Well that's the key points of the story

Said something like "I will convey this message to the end" or something. Implied that Roger could read and write the poneglyph language, which Rayleigh later told us they couldn't? 🤔 Edit: As for the Big Mom/Mam subtitle weirdness, it's actually very simple: in Japanese, the vowel that makes the ah sound in "mom" is romanized as "a". It's just literally a transliteration that fell through the cracks because it's a name, and whoever translated it either didn't make the connection that obviously mahm = mom, or simply didn't want to risk taking liberties on a name of a major character in the story.

Fun fact: Tamago is Japanese for egg.

Undoubtedly the heaviest too, though there are (almost) no official weights for characters, but an obese woman of her height should be in the ballpark of 15 tonnes. Not that consistent scale is really a thing in One Piece.

Big Mom feels like she was retconned or rewritten from an extremely creepy old woman with stomach acid related powers, to what she ended up actually being.

Jack's reaction to Big Mom was as expected for him to freak out though if only he knew the real terror is yet to come so we'll have to see what he thinks of it when it starts plus hope he knows that when they say Ling Ling most viewers actually say Lin-Lin just like saying Big Mom instead of big mam so thought Jack should know that.

All three Ancient Weapons are named after Greek/Roman Gods that are blood related to Zeus, God of Thunder and Mt Olymus: • Pluton - Hades (Pluto), King/God of The Underworld (Hell), and Brother of Zeus. • Poseidon - Poseidon, God of The Sea, and Brother of Zeus. • Uranus - Uranus, The Primordial God of The Sky, and Grandfather of Zeus. I do have a theory about how One Piece is going to end involving both Luffy and the Ancient Weapons. But it would be spoiling future events. Let's just say that I think that Luffy could be Zeus in this scenario. Despite most of his character and orign being based off both Sun Wukong, and the Hindu Monkey-faced god Hamuma.

Quick point out Gigachad Luffys powerplay here: (i doubt he realized but) Not only is he continueing to unite races at peace with challenging the territory; this would also mean theyd have 2 ancient weapons on their side (as Frank most likely remembers Plutons blueprints and may added a lil to himself and Sunny). It seems like no one mentions it yet but this fishmen island is referencing a little about Japan's famous folklore. I have seen so many versions of it so mine might not be accurate but it's something like this: A poor fisherman saved a dying turtle. The turtle felt grateful and invited the fisherman home. The home was Ryugu Palace and the turtle was a beautiful lady. The guy partied and enjoyed a lot at Ryugu Palace. Before leaving the girl asked him to choose a box, one big one small. There's so many variations I forgot which one he chose, or he steal or he choose both, or the girl didnt ask him to choose but just gave it to him. Anyway, one of the boxes was Tamate box and when he opened it he grew old immediately and returned back to his place without knowing how to get back to Ryugu Palace anymore. Some say he grew old because he spent so many years at Ryugu Palace while remaining young but after returning all his age caught up to him. A magical but melancholic story.
