I head out into open water to tackle some pelagic muskies with my good friend, and professional guide, Captain Andy Schiera of Veteran Guide Service. We get on an amazing open water bite with some heavily weighted bucktails and some 12" Posseidon swim baits from Chaos Tackle. I was amazed at the fish we caught and how many of these cisco eating musky we saw!

Fisheries scientist here. The faster you stop touching a fish after you catch it the better it will be (there may be some exceptions to that, but on the whole this is true). If the fish thrashes as you’re moving to put it back, better to just work with that momentum and toss it in, letting it swim off. If it has that much vim and vigour to launch itself out of your hands, it’s going to be fine. I am an advocate for simply placing the fish back in the water and letting go. No need to hold it, swish it around, etc. Do that only if the fish seems to be struggling to gain equilibrium (a bad sign…), but if it’s upright just stop touching it.

That's the best release. Don't hang on trying to control the fish. Let it fall in the water and use your trolling motor to go back to her if you need to revive it. I know it's different if it's windy and waves.

Suspended open water seems to be the final frontier in muskie fishing. I'm a bit surprised by all the pleasure boats activity and the fish still willing to strike. Nice fish Brian. 😊

Awesome channel & video, Been a subscriber for 2 years or more. I started to fish in deep water and have not had any success yet.. my biggest problem (I think) in my reservoirs it seems that there are PiLES of bait scattered throughout the water column so the skis have tons to choose from.. Can you tell how much bait was around? Where you off away from the main bait pockets?
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy Год назад
@baddffish4969 Thank you, u appreciate it! I really couldn't tell how much bait was around, but I'd say definitely work those outer edges away from the main pockets.

@mpbarga They were custom ones that Andy built from spare parts. Built a bit heavier, about 6 oz with the small spinner tail off the back hook. 10/9 stagger blades.

If people were as crazy about fish care as they let on they'd be using barbless singles. Or not fishing at all.🤣
@heinrichbier4759
@heinrichbier4759 Год назад
You get so few bites per hour over the course of a season and it’s hard enough keeping them hooked with barbs. If you invested as much time as these guys you’d understand.
