Big Problem!! Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Engine Noise 

When you have a VVT pin that is not locking and making a noise similar to this, you run the engine with the valve cover off and video the cam side of the cam and timing set and play it back on your phone at slow speed and you will watch the timing chain pull the gear set around in a contant motion but the cam will go and stop and go and stop based on the oil timing system in the phaser forcing the cam along when the oil phaser gets jammed against the inside of the assy for a portion of the stroke and then the cam will be held back/sprung forward by normal valve spring tension, maybe I am saying it wrong but you can watch this in action, its cool. Sounds like a bad rod bearing to me. There is an extended warranty to 150k miles for this issue.

To me the very first diagnosis was rod knock. I would definitely take off the oil pan first. Surprised why you went for the chain. And finally, now you know that simingly loose chain is normal. Thanks for the video.

I'm not surprised at all with any Hyundai/KIA products; very poor quality. I had a new KIA Sedona (I took delivery at 85 miles) and it was rattling on startup and needed a new timing set before it hit 1000 miles. Let's also not mention the transmission slamming gears that was replaced by 5000 miles, or the airbag light that would never go off, or the RH sliding door that always got stuck midway or the growling blower motor, or the Infinity 6 disc stereo that lost its mind every time the car was shut off, and it was not wiring, but the Hyundai (nothing Infinity about it) head unit. There's a lot more where that came from with that crappy car that I got rid of at nearly an exact 10,000 miles. I'd had enough of it. Yet the 93 Chevy Astro I drove for many years before the KIA, and that I drove during the many, many times the KIA was at the dealership, is the same car that I reliably drive today. The Astro is 29 miles shy of hitting 300,000 miles and is the most ridiculously original car I have ever seen hit this mark (that means Toyota and Honda cars of friends and family as well). I'll stick with old Chevys (not new ones) over the crap they're all peddling these days that the snowflakes just love the protruding screens they can stare at along with their phones all day. I'll keep my knobs that rotate or slide, etc. The KIA was babied and sat in the garage more than I drove it, other than when it was at the dealership. After all, it is my same conservative driving habits that has helped the Astro along all this time and I didn't drive the KIA any differently.

You clearly don’t know what you talking about 🤦🏾‍♂️ from the sound u can tell it’s a rod bearing failure an the engine was cooked but instead u wanna work on a broke engine
