Big Skatepark Mistake 

as a blue-collar man, and long-time skateboarder, i'd love to see a video of you speaking about some of your previous jobs and skills you have picked up. working with your hands needs some appreciation from the younger generations these days.

Those old black plastic prefabs were all we had growing up in Michigan. I never loved it but I have a weird nostalgia for them.

Concrete all day but I agree that making it equal for frontside/backside, regular/goofy is important even if you have to have 2 of the same hubba or rail in your park. Most parks you can have a quick walk around and tell instantly if the ringleader skater who helped design the park is regular or goofy. Like if you are regular you get into an easy boardslide more than halfway down the rail with a tiny ollie and then the kids who are goofy stance have to go fast and gap to rail from 4' back.

We just tore down and rebuilt the pyramid at our local with PT lumber and skatelite. Built by skaters for skaters. Nothing feels better to skate than something you helped build. 💪

Coming from a skater who's been skating for only 2 years, all of the tricks you do, Dan, are mind-blowing! I love the combinations you do with flip tricks, grinds, and manuals! Even the ones you think are meh are very exciting to see as a beginner🤘

We got our wooden park 75% redone I think 2 years ago - they added a steelframe and steel sheets underneath 2 layers of wood to make it more durable. The black top is 20 years old though - and even back then it was one level below regular street top. You have a good time with dragon wheels - just don't try to slide out a bail unless you want a skin implant.

some of my favorite sessions when i was young was skating a puddle that would form at my local.

I live in east TN (Bristol) which is alot more nascar and folk-country music driven than skateboard friendly. Only park we ever had was an early 00s prefab on rough asphalt which went through a couple renditions before it recently got tore down to make way for the new Middle school. Anyhow a group of advocates including myself have finally gotten the city to agree to building a new concrete park which construction is supposed to start on this winter. I think the designated contractor for building the park is called Artisan and has a decent portfolio of stuff they've built on the east coast that looks promising. Ever heard ofem? Im actually on the design committee who's partly in charge of basic design elements and features to be. I'm completely unfamiliar with any of this and very excited to be a part of the process and leave a mark on the local skate community. Also I'm wanting a euro gap manny pad that doubles as a bank to ledge on the sides, does anyone know of a park I could look at to get an idea of this kind of feature?

I've been looking into it in Canada, we have a the Canadian Ramp company CRC that makes metal prefab, and I was mind blown how expensive the ramps are. Pad not included. The one we have is black top, and prefab. I praise my green dragon's. 🙌

I've been to Landsdown years ago. Got thrown out for not wearing a helmet by some old dude (I'm probably his age now😂). Anyway, I hate prefab parks! I went to my neighborhood skatepark one day and the mayor was there. He got all excited telling me that they spent $150000 (20 years ago) on a new prefab park. I got pissed and said that he wasted our money. The rep he bought it from was there and started arguing with me. The f'r never even stood on a skateboard! He gave me the "can change it around speech". It's so rare that any town spends the money to change them around. Very rare. I told the mayor that I drove up to Sayerville skatepark every Sunday. It's a concrete park that they paid $250000 for and never needs maintenance other than an occasional cleaning. No one skated the new park and it closed a few years later. Total waste of money.

I want to ride a Spine like that so much again - it only has been like 20 years.

Those are the same style ramps that my local has. They say they are made by Woodward on them. I really do like the rubber type top the ramps have. Great content as always man. Much appreciated.

Guess what, in Korea, the government builds quite a few prefab parks, but they finish the ground with mushy urethane coats... I get that it's safety thing, but the speed on those things just makes the parks useless. There is one that will be built soon in my area, and maybe I should call them up and see what the plans are...

my local is nicolet skatepark in somd. its 20 somethin years old... got a "face lift" a few years ago... talked to the concrete guy doing the dimensions when we all came together for our input... obviously contracted sidewalk dude... made all the dimensions wrong and it was just sad. we have managed to figure out how to skate it like you said. "its so bad that its good"... we got a contract from an actual skatepark designer (forgot the name) and the whole park is getting a face lift with additions and a new park in mechanicsville. so hopefully the future is gold for the younger generation.

Dan you should get involved with the new skatepark they're building in Baltimore in Hamilton. I've since moved away but I hear it's going to be a nice concrete joint and I"m sure your expertise would be welcomed.

In Fresno we got 3 of those black prefab parks, one is slapped on top of the chunkiest blacktop asphalt. So hard to skate going from rough ground to slick ramp

Kona has gotten so bad in the past 20 years. They keep building ramps and somehow within a year the wood and skatelite has holes in it. The vert ramp has been deteriorating forever and it's horrible. They still charge $10 for 2 hours also. Jacksonville Florida now has a new park under an expressway and it's awesome. I hope to see you guys there someday

as someone who is still a beginner, prefab is less scary to fall on. Even if there isnt much of a difference painwise, i feel like concrete is more intimidating but higher quality

Where as Pierre South Dakota they are removing one Skate area and making other areas impossible to skate by making them so white in concrete even a skateboard wheel bran new will leave a mark. of courses they blame hard but under USA new limits of city water leaving a mark on new concrete on skateboarders. Sad but true when Krisy Meath Nome is in her final term under state law she is kind of how everyone acts like 20--30 years out of tune following in lockstep.
