BIG T'au Empire Points Changes! Nerfs, Buffs and Removed Units? 

Points changes now seem to be live on the download: www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/GXzaI0Z941DGQwZM.pdf They also changed the Mont'ka core rule which I'll aim to cover in another video. It's now the LETHAL HITS that they gain if guided, and it's the assault bit that they get stock. I suppose that's one way to fix it as it didn't really work properly, but seems like a slight nerf overall?

Almost all the resin models are going to disappear from every faction. The pattern is fairly obvious at this point so investing into them is very much not advisable.

Looks like the Kroot Detachment is solidly a meme with these points. That and unlikely to see many Kroot in the other Detachments

I think a clear sign that Tetras where going away was that they gave the Stealth Suits basically the same skill (and why they removed them from the Combat Patrol, so you have to get them full price to replace your Tetras), and Orks FW models going away pretty much stablished that most FW stuff will follow suit.

Remember Tau’s 10th edition codexes was written and all planned before the edition launched. -So they planned to axe all these models well in advance, but kept selling and producing the models for 40K saying they were supported. Stocks must go up, consumers are just wallets 🫠

My Y’Vahra is one of my best painted models :( I guess it’ll just be proxied as a plain old Riptide now.

I knew the tetras were going. They would have had pounts increases by now if they were staying.

What irks me is I bought Tetras at the same time as the Kroot box launch on the GW store (layers of poor choices there). So they had them front page at the time they shipped the rules, knowing they were going to be deleted. Triple hitting the breacher unit was kind of harsh, but they are pretty great damage output. But seldom survive the next turn, essentially just a funny shaped 1 shot weapon.

If they really don’t want flyers in the game, why not just move them all to legends? Alternatively, make casual/narrative play the default game, and make tournament a special mode with restrictions to facilitate competition.

Whenever an old resin model is made powerful in game, BEWARE! this is the classic GW Bait and Switch. They've been sitting on those resin models for at least 15 years and want to sell them and cut production because they don't sell. So they make them they OP model of the month, metachasers buy them all up, and then GW discontinues and removes the model from play next update.

I knew Retaliation Cadre was gonna pay for Mont'ka being good, didn't think it would be this bad

Notably, Internal Grenade Racks is 20 points now, not 30. It was already autopick at 30

Tetras going away was pretty much expected. The points increases on Sunforge Battlesuits are ok in Retaliation Cadre I think, Starscythes going down in points kinda evens this out. Breachers and Devilfishes going up a bit was expected, too. Riptides going up 15 points puts them back into "meh"-tier though. They're big tough things that can stand on objectives, not awful, but not great either. What really bugs me is the Broadsides. Railguns hardly profit either from Montka or from Retaliation Cadre and Misslesides are overshadowed by Fireknifes simply being a lot cheaper for essentially doing the same thing.

I'm here thinking "why?" I never had real trouble fighting tau, definitely not a facton that needs hard nerfs

damm 10th really messed my tau up, from makeing me have to re-do all my crisis suits (formally all of them were burst cannons + missile pod or plasma rifle on the FW old XV 84 for the squad leaders from those older editions with other members being in XV89), the removal of XV-9 at the start of the edition and now the r'vara and y'vera, they really dont want me playing my battlesuit army

It's funny to me how so many Tau players were just like "wait for the codex points, these one's are too high and don't account for the rules" and then GW upped the points.

A net total +30 points for a full breacherfish combo is a bit rough. I can understand the fireblade and devilfish nerf, but I feel like the breachers stand alone were fine, and could have been left at 90.

I just got some 3d printed tetras, knowing their days were numbered but not expecting them to get dropped so soon. I wonder if I can add some drones hovering alongside them to proxy them as piranhas.

The issue with the Tiger Shark is that it can do _nothing_ until the third turn, unless you go second (something you have no control over) and Rapid Ingress it during the opponent's second turn. 160mm base means that it gets in, it can't be deployed entirely within 6" of the map border, and thus it's forced to not shoot for that entire turn. And no HOVER means it can't avoid it either.

110pts per broadside means missilesides are going to be on the shelf for a long time

Ask puretide program how those kroot do. He's of the opinion the 75pt codex price is excellent for them, and given the 495 out of 500pts he scored in 5 test games with points from the book I'm inclined to agree.

Even GW forgot about the existence of Piranha TX-42 model! There aren't even Legend rules. Meanwhile, I have this, and one day I will build and paint it. I hope.

Wierd that they come out with a new kroot detachment and increase the points on all of them. Do they want people to buy them?

the loss of the Y'vahra is painful, I loved that model.. I wish they will include it back someday! It really had a niche...

riptide did not need a points range at all its quite ass

I was going to build my Yvahra tomorrow... though I was prepared to make the flamer arm exchangeable with a shield conversion. I do hope they bring Riptide variants back, in the meantime that's what I'll use it as.

I think the argument for FW big kits being difficult to swap to plastic, as they are 'too difficult/complex' to port over is pretty weak. Look at Bandai's Gundam ranges. Incredible complex, detailed and (relatively) easy to build models. Also, cash value to cash value, a darn sight cheaper than FW's poorly cast lumps of resin.

well I was going to build a tau army, but things like the riptide variants and the barracuda were some of my favourite models - don't think I'll bother now - none of the cool models are safe :/

The thing that annoys me about stuff like losing Tetras is that nothing else does what they do. If you delete them from the game, then you need to give Tau another fast marker unit. Remove shitty FW models all you want,but don't completely remove the role they played. It's like removing basically all Daemon Engines from CSM without giving them anything to replace them.

I think GW should limit themselves to 2 points updates a year. This constant points reshuffle makes it feel less like a game, and more like a full-time job.

Also: Aun'Shi , Aun'Va, Longstrike and normal Kroot Shaper have also been removed For longstrike you can still play him, but he must be played as a regular hammerhead I may be very late with this information, but I did not find this out until recently

I don’t understand the removal of the barracuda it’s pretty large but vespid stingwings are still in?!?

I mean I get most of the FW tau being removed, but the R'varna/Y'vahra is a real shocker actually. GW really wants to limit FW to the more massive models, characters, and bits. Now to wait and see what GW does with CSM next

I think T'au are still pretty good. I am worried about everything that isn't Mont'ka, though... Everything else already seemed weak compared to Mont'ka and now Kauyon will have even less stuff to make it into the later game. Maybe the crisis suit buffs will be good enough for retaliation cadre, though.

What is the purpose of drone models now? I have a few drone models from a 9th edition Tau combat patrol box, but I dont see any point values or stats assigned to them anywhere.

I havent gotten to my kroot battleforce box yet, looks like I'll take my sweet time getting to it with these prices.

I thought about getting 2 of the new combat patrols to start building a breacherfish army. Not sure how viable this is going to be now. Oh well.

I am so glad that i didn't buy the Y'varha, but im sad because i wanted to combine it with the flame base from deadly print studios. The much awaited day came and its a bad one.

Points increased from index, but from codex this significant drops.. with codex points I had way less.. I quite literally gained around 200 points off this to use.

Are you sure your point changes on the kroot are correct? I could have sworn carnivores dropped 10 from the pre release box codex instead of going up. Same for farstalkers...

I just started picking up T'au for a Kroot army, before coming here I had everything at Codex values, and it's funny that I thought the Tau got a huge points DECREASE. Sorry for all the Tau players before, sucks to lose models and have to make cuts to lists.

F*ck GW. First they deleted my Warhammer Fantasy army from existence, now they want to cleanse my armies of all the expensive FW models. I already quit WHFB/AoS, if they nuke my Custodes mostly-FW army, I’m quitting this game

Correct me if Im wrong, but can you use Tetras as a stand in for Piranhas? It sucks that theyre no longer official, but you can still use the models at least. (Plus garage hammer is garage hammer :D )

With the merging of forgeworld and the normal site, I really hoped they'd have folded some of the main resin things into their main codices, but no. Not the end of the world, but a bit unforeseen.

When Kroot model sales go down so will thier price and cost. Guess I’ll just have to wait to make that kroot army.

At this point I would say that everyone should stop buying anything from Forgeworld. All the Eldar units, like shadow specters or the dark eldar big tank, I wouldn't buy any of it as it is probably all going when their codex drops. I also thought Forgeworld was over priced anyway but it sucks for people who invested in these.

The Mont’ka detachment rule also got a nerf. Everything gets Assault, and only Guided units get Lethal Hits.

I'm completely devastated over losing the Riptide variants. They were my favorite models in the Tau army and was planning to buy them this Christmas. So far every faction I've started saving money for has either lost my favorite models or have been completely gutted.

Generally think the point increases were done pretty well. Broadsides may be a bit over the top and will probably only see play with missiles in mont'ka. Ethereal should probably go down to at least 40. Similarly Strike Teams need to either have better weapons or go done further. Sunforged are way less powerful now without Tetras so 170 may be too much. Losing Tetras reaaally hurts since there's nothing that can really fill their role in the roster. Stealth Suits will be autoinclude NOW (they weren't before as you've stated here), but more so because there's nothing that does a similar thing (next best are Pathfinder, but they are way squishier). Hard to say how well Tau will do now because of Tetras being gone. They definitely needed point increases, since they now have actual detachments (well at least 1 or 2) instead of Kauyon. I'm just cautiously pessimistic on them running into troubles with regards to lack of observer units. Lastly, the Kroot are still a meme. Noone can convince me that Rampagers are better than something like Meganobs (who to be fair are probably undercosted). Carnivores at 75p, will only ever see play in other detachments as a single unit for sticky-ing an objective. I'm glad that some people will play and hopefully enjoy their detachment, but the datasheets are just too weak to build a list around.
