Big Tackle Rod Busting SLAMMER BLUEFISH - Saltwater Fly Fishing & Bob's Banger Blues. Beautiful perfect clear day. Slight crosswind to the casting side. Had the water to myself. A clear half mile on both sides, I decided to "break" the fly rod out. Just perfect. First cast in, a crazy bluefish took about a half dozen swipes at my fly. Second cast in, bluefish on. Third cast dropped a blue. It went as such about a half dozen times. Fish on, fish off, fish swipe. Pick your order. Time melted. Nailed a big slammer blue. Over anxious to get him in I held the rod up towards the stripper guide, and felt a hard lunge. Crack! I maintained control of the line and landed the fish. I guess in the words of old Ray I said to myself, "that's how she goes." The I said to myself this is great. I was happy. Don't get me wrong. I would have rather lose a dozen banger flies. I would have loved to have at another dozen big slammer blues on the fly. I know I will. Just not this day. I must be getting younger.

Hi Jerry, You're a brave soul going after Gator Blues on a fly rod. Sorry about your rod. They put up a great fight and gave you a fun day. The Bluefish down here are much smaller. They are related to your Bluefish and can usually be caught in the surf with Pompano. Maybe you can make a sleeve to connect the two sections to repair the rod. Good luck and have fun, Mickey

Outstanding! Any tips on how to cast further on the fly rod? I've been struggling!
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
Thanks Karim! One thing you can do for distance the first thing is use a smaller fly. These were pretty big poppers but I am only looking for a high bar of 70 feet. Only care about the 50-70 range. anything more you need a heavier rod or smaller flies. Stripping baskets can help as well. smaller flies I just look at a 60-80 range really dont care much more. something always is gonna cut your cast when you need it so just enjoy tossing the line and youll be hitting 90 feet in no time!!! but if distance is a primary concern, a heavier weight rod with smaller rated flies will get you distance.
@jjm4643

learn how to haul properly
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
Hauling can certainly help feed some line out, but keep in mind Karim that the fly on the end with be your upper limit. To really notice what I am saying - take your fly off, then cast. You will automatically gain 20yds. The type of fly you use as well will change that number so see what different flies do and how the cast and there will be no surprises when you switch out your flies

Would it be advantageous to get the fish on the reel to utilize the drag as opposed to dragging the line?
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
I like the play with line hand but if you set your drag proper you know you will never exceed maximum pressure on you line but i like hand lining most the time its just more in touch with the fish good question

Hi quick question for you. I was on a boat at night in the dark and blue fish were blitzing everywhere on big bunker. We were chunking and that worked somewhat. We were in about 35 feet of water. My question is, I really wanted to catch them on lures. What do you think I could have done to attract them? What lure would you have used?
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
I think the chunks may be the best bet at night. Not sure bites change I would rotate through what I have in my bag till something found a pattern same as on the surf yellows and black of course whites
@AOMilvado
@AOMilvado Год назад
@@FishYourWay Thank you. I was able to see the big bunker up on top of the water which is why I was hoping some type of lorkhan duplicate something like that and get the bluefish to bite.

Question: why don’t you fight the fish off the reel?
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay 4 месяца назад
No need to. Ads unnecessary stress. Get em in and out. Feels great on the play. More control. Down to the backing, hell yea all systems and reel drag until 10yds flyline back in the reel. Its up to the fish really - and my leader. Lighter leader, less drag more line out, etc etc etc...
@Three_Rivers_Adventure
@Three_Rivers_Adventure Год назад
Why didn't you get them on the reel and bring em in that instead of stripping them in ? Any big fish I got fly fishing I got on the reel and fought em that way.
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
I like the play by hand more control if they get me to the reel I will play the reel with my palm no big deal, also mono leader so want to get em in before they may bite through the leader

You can see the lineup from the road, it's not like this is a secret spot. I feel ur pain though
@brianmurphy6862
@brianmurphy6862 Год назад
It’s no secret spot and it’s nothing special by any means either but the beauty of the place was that it was a nice quiet little sandbar that there would maybe be 5 or 6 guys at tops. After he posted the video there, now I see 15-20 guys (which I’ve never seen before) there or more a day - many of which have no idea what they are doing. I’ve been getting my lines crossed, getting crowded on either side when I hook a fish and just any other lineup etiquette rule you can name broken. We go there not because it’s a good spot, and Hell I’d even say the inlets and jetties are the better bet right now, but because it was not the same crowd of idiots you get at those places. But of course it’s been turning into that. His crowd doesn’t care about the fact it’s a quieter little spot. They just flock there when they see there are fish back there since nobody has posted a fish elsewhere. And when him or somebody does post something elsewhere they will flock to wherever that is. These kinds of fisherman just follow the herds

You need a stripping basket.
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay Год назад
Hi Scott, may look like so but its a bit more feet then the cam makes it look. I felt comfortable with my distance I was getting with a 3/4" foam headed popper. 60-70 feet, my stiff taper leader is 15ft long slightly shorter with 40-60ft line out. A lot of resistance in the air so I pondered I would not get much more with a basket and I was easily able to handle the line in the water. I felt the action was more important then distance and it seemed to work untill.... CRACK!!! Great sugestion I appreciate it heard it 2x today, I should have made mention in the video why I was doing what I was doing it would make more sense. I think I just mention I put out just enough line and should have explained more.

Casting to right where that single stray fish hit, crossing my lines and creating a shit show! Some of these new guys I saw even brought down a big Bluetooth speaker and played some rap for everyone. Nothing like some soothing tunes when fishing. What would I do without them? Thankfully they told me they were there because they saw your videos.
