Nah, he only says half the story. If you learn MMT you'll find the other half: try these talks: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4QTmTUhsV5E.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-31eUsJRFcNo.html
Anand Giridharadas is an intellectual black belt who should be featured on more mainstream media as he consistently and correctly diagnosis the problems in American society.
Anand often makes reference to the Overton Window and how politicians have to operate within its framework in order to be elected/reelected. Would like to hear his take on the impact that think tanks along with the plutocrats who contribute to such think tanks, have on public opinion, which translates to political policy and power.
Anand, I so RESPECT & ADMIRE all that you SPEAK! When will EVERYDAY People accept this SIMPLE CONCEPT? It just BLOWS MY MIND that the average Human Being, don't get this SIMPLE explanation!
I'm very hesitant of people "criticizing" the elite. Time after time these argument are made but later prove to be advantageous to them keeping power. I understand 40 minutes isn't enough time to clarify his points so I'll will read his book, so not to mischaracterize his points. Thank you for showcasing his ideas.
I see your point. Corporations have tried take over gov. We need to undo money in polotics and reform lobbyist as well as the ability for ooloticuans to profit from being poloticians.
"There is also this to be said. It is immoral to use private property in order to alleviate the horrible evils that result from the institution of private property. It is both immoral and unfair." Oscar Wilde "The Soul of Man Under Socialism."
I always had the feeling that philanthropy had to be a kind of camouflage for something else. After all you can't just have the world's top capitalists who up until that point have been happily feasting on the exploitation of everyone and everything just doing a complete about turn. Doesn't happen. Delighted that this guy has called them out so eloquently.
Found you by accident; outstanding intellectual content and discourse. But you need to get out front and have a face and publicize your identity like The Hill, TYT or Jimmy Dore etc. Then you'd really soar in profile and efficacy for your noble goals. Come on guys , get into a spotlight!! An aussie outsider.
What about Google "don't be evil" Would change "disclosure to use" to a simple one paragraph in plain English? Same with facebook and all other social media on-line!
Om Bhur Bhuva Swaha, Genesis 1:29. Anand is wearing leather jackets so obviously he is not so kind to all earthlings. Logic may be right but so are all the Zuckerbergs.
The interesting feature that I gather from Mr. Giridhardadas comments is that this phenomenon, is occurring across many countries in the Western world. I would also mention positive change is something we should all strive for. To that end, it is up to us to do anything we can to encourage the American voters to vote for Senator Bernie Sanders. I and many others believe that Mr. Sanders represents a once in a life time opportunity. A Democratic Socialist in the Whitehouse would have a positive impact on the lives of common people across the globe. Therefore, I encourage all my American friends to not become “the indifferent” but to get engaged and vote for Senator Sanders the only person I know who “walks the talk” and who will work for the betterment of working people. Therefore, as the song says “reach out in the darkness and you may find a friend”, talk to your neighbor, email your friends, get involved we can make this a better world for all.
First let us end tax expenditures, ie tax breaks, subsidies, exemptions, etc for individuals and corporations. A wealth tax or even higher taxes will just be a full employment program for tax lawyers and accountants unless we end tax subsidies, which were 1.4 trillion in FY 2019
Yeah, but the people suffered for a long time before enough people had had enough. twitter.com/AbraarKaran?s=20 There is a reason why such uprisings tend to be bloody.. Wouldn't it be better not to make people that desperate?
This man lays it out so clearly and with such wise anecdotes and analogies. He needs to be more widely heard. If listened to honestly only fools and scoundrels could or would even have the nerve to dispute him.
i had one public sector job and over a dozen private sector jobs. it took years to shake of my conservatard brainwashing to realize the public sector operation was extremely productive and efficient, rivaling any of the private employers.
Good minds have often wondered why thousands show up for sports but it is so hard to get 5 citizens in a room for a political discussion. There must be a way to make such discussions appealing. What is necessary of course is to bring about a birth of consciousness.
I absolutely love listening Anand Giridharadas and how he breaks down the the hypocrisy. He has this gift of explaining that you don't feel left out of the conversation.
Taxes alone cause a net drain = austerity. What you really want is aggressive fiscal policy, spending FIRST then taxing LATER. What to spend on? A Job Guarantee for a start as a wage-price anchor and automatic inflation stabilizer. Second would be clean energy infrastructure. Third, but almost *the most important* is to regulate banks to narrow their activities to making only loans that can be repaid, and Fourth would be to tax (at an extremely high rate) all rentier (un-earned) income other than retiree incomes, to free up the real productive sector of the economy. Later, once retirees regain trust in government, you can tax all their rentier income (since it is a choke on the economy) and instead guarantee pension payments at a decent living income rate in perpetuity. All this is possible with no inflationary pressure once you understand MMT. I would also slowly retire all outstanding US Treasury bonds and not issue any more, they are a relic of the gold standard era (when money was literally finite in reserve because it was convertible to gold). The USA no longer needs to sell bonds to limit inflation, it can limit inflation purely through fines, fees, progressive taxation, rentier taxes and rationing of scarce precious resources, and of course the Job Guarantee employment buffer. Low interest rates are not needed to encourage investment, instead the government can always fund any projects that have the ready brains and power to go ahead, and which are worth the investment in terms of producing real material value for society. With a ZIRP for overnight cash rates, the US government can then get out of IR control policy and let commercial banks set their own rates, provided they are heavily regulated to not be able to lend to people who cannot repay the loan. When banks do make unpayable loans, the solution is debt cancellation, no questions asked. You cannot afford to let banskters get way with ripping people off by loaning out debt that cannot be repaid.
What if the Govt. gave us options and be transparent where the put in the taxes to work. Both win win situations for all. I hope everyone do good and become rich(health, wealth and relationship) in their lives( and if you measure being rich by the amount of bucks in the bank then All the best to you too) Also me commenting just by reading the thumbnail.
If you start to grab a billionaires money you can grab it all from everybody. This will not somehow magically stop. He spoke in other videos about a minimal state but he's propagating high taxes. He's not getting tired of communicating that poor women get slewn by evil men. (I don't belive him, I think he knows exactly how to play that). In another video he stated that the world is flat - ok, I'm not against it but it got blindly accepted by the female moderator, which was inept. (..he knows how to play that) watch?v=qcHlNKLQBIM I'm not pro billionaires and their plots, but he's going nowhere. If you decide with feelings you're beond hope. And that is what he's doing, he manipulates emotions. The best protection against such a manipulator is a rational thinker and btw, he doesn't like Zuck. But not because of what Zuck has done, he doesn't like him because of his expression-less-ness. Think about that, if you can.
Plenty of regular people want their kids not in public schools where there is no accountability. Everyone has to put up with the bullies and class disruptors. Lots of Latinos in America for example send their kids to those. As for taxes, I'm nickled and dimed enough already. I'm not paying half my income to taxes like they do in Europe. Fund your pet ideas on your own
MiroBG What actually Anand is saying is that these Corporations(Plutocrats) because of their wealth, they influence laws including taxation. Which explains why you and I actually have to pay more in taxes compared to their billion dollar incomes. Anand is also saying that for these Corporations, philanthropy is also one of their ways in influencing laws and public opinion.
That's only the case because in the US public schools are funded by the average tax returns of your post code. So it creates a two-tiered system where rich suburbs have quality public schools and inner city districts struggle to educated their students. All schools should be funded equally, that's the solution.
@@tusharsingh4543 if that's the case, why are Latino immigrants in America insisting on charter schools? Why is there a huge charter school in south Oklahoma City where low and middle class kids go and why are their parents organized so strongly and push for charter schools and school choice?
