Bigsbys don't put guitars out of tune. Bigsbys used with poorly cut nuts make guitars go out of tune.

I’d agree that is a factor but also having non locking tuners plays a part as well as the bridge saddles causing friction, age of strings and so on. I don’t really use the bigsby that much but the tuning stability is definitely something that can be addressed with a few changes 😊

Great demo. One small piece of advice, if you want to get a bit more "filtertron" like chime and clarity out of those pickups, just upgrade your pots. That alone will brighten up your tone quite a bit at a fraction of what new pickups would cost. In fact for as little money as that guitar is, you could upgrade the pots, the nut, and the bridge and you'd have a class A guitar still at a fraction of the price of what youd pay for a Japanese Gretsch or even a G5420T Electromatic.

Thanks for the comment and the advice! I might look into a few upgrades in the future 😊

@@TGMGuitars_ No problem! Oh and the tuners! Some Grover locking tuners would make a big difference for keeping it in tune! Especially with a Bigsby! Outside of replacing pickups, that would be your biggest expense but well worth it!

Phenomenal, I was gonna get a different Gretsch, but you helped me decided on this one, but with the gold. Thanks so much!

You don’t need locking tuners man, just a roller bridge, a good cut nut, maybe a softer bigsby spring... that’s my shred in tune secret

Love the video, I’ve got a G2420T myself but mine is the Gold Dust color. Love it. It also sounds really good with some flats.

Congrats on trying something different. Too many people stay with the same style guitar their entire life. Experiment and have fun 👍

Good set of Grover locking tuners and a roller bridge take care of a lot of tuning issues! The stock tuners are garbage. Other than that, it's a fantastic guitar!

Your inspired playing, and the PERFECT sounds of the 2420T, just this instant pushed me over on a Gunmetal flavor I had almost chickened out on-over yet another pretty epiphone Modern LP w/an ebony fretboard.(I have enough!) But THANK YOU! The entire point was a different sound, and I DO love the wild "ride" of acoustics live with odd monitors, etc. While I love the player's feeling of surfing endless big muff waves, I am also hoping on the more traditional jazz textures I know hollowbodies are capable of. "But Does It JANGLE?" with a little tremolo and chorus? Very interested in exploring the range of these "humbucker-ish Gretch pups" and who they fit in a mix. Again, thank you for your video. Just what I was looking for. Best of fortune on your guitar works!

Thanks for the comment and kind words! I’m glad the video has helped you with your decision, I’m sure you’ll end up loving this guitar! I’ve never really gone for the typical jangly tones with this guitar, I’m not sure if it’ll sound like a “traditional” gretsch with the pickups in it. I’ve seen a few people online that have retrofitted the more traditional filtertrons so it’s always an option in the future! Best of luck with your purchase!

Very nice review. Of all the reviews I've seen on this guitar, yours is the only one that demonstrated it on the dirty Channel (which is why I subscribed). I mean, who wants to hear that guitar on the clean channel? To me it's just too boring. On the dirty channel that guitar comes alive. 🙏👍🙏

I originally was looking at the G2622 Streamliner and tried out the G2420 at Guitar Center today and fell in love.. The one I tried didn’t have a Bigsby on it, which I’m fine with that😂 but man it just sang… I’m use to playing an acoustic so this was a nice change of pace, but yet still felt familiar in a way… Great video and yeah I’m saving up for the G 2420 without a Bigsby on it… it’s not my style I am mostly rhythm not lead any way… Take care.

Great review, I want one for sure but I'm torn between the G2420 vs G2420T, I heard the Bigsby model is challenging when changing strings, is that true? I have played a G2420 and I love the sound, right now though they have a special at my local guitar shop on the G2420T model they have it for less than the G2420 model. Thanks again

Thanks for the comment! 😊 as far as restringing with the Bigsby goes, it can be a pain at first but once you have the knack it’s not too bad! What I do it use a pair of pliers to bend the string at the point where it starts to wrap around itself before the ball end, you can then use the bend to hook the string onto the peg and it won’t slip off when restringing. Have a look around on RU-vid and there should be a few tutorials on how to do it. Personally I think the bigsby just adds a bit of character to the guitar and gives it a classic vibe.

You seem to think of distortion as "clean". Perhaps I can find a way to hear this guitar clean on another youtube video. I did, and the guitar sounds pretty darn good.

Thanks for the comment! Tbh that’s just the sound I go for as a base sound so to me that’s the cleanest I get, just a case of personal preference which I understand is not for everyone. This is more of a showcase of how I use the guitar more than anything. I’m glad you managed to find another video with the tones you wanted!

@TGMGuitars_
@TGMGuitars_ 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment! If you use the tremolo a lot or go mad then it does slip out of a tune a little, there’s another comment thread on here where a few guys have given some tips on how to overcome this, mainly being an adjustment of the nut slot.

Why you chaps over there always pronounce the "th" sound like an "F" sound? Three sounds like free, through sounds like fru, etc

Way to much bass and rumble, the the highs are gone. One thing your sitting right is front of the Amp, and the loud noise is affecting the strings on the guitar. The strings are very touchy on a guitar and they vibrate very easy ,even from loud sounds. . If you want to hear a god Guitar listen to : Limbo Patricia Cucaracha (DUANE EDDY Medley)

6:03 are saying guitar DI amp, only fix tiny bit of reverb? Can you guys please tell me if I’m hearing things? but gee it sounds like distortion big time in there to me or overdrive/gain being pushed on amp? It mat be the bridge pick he has selected,.. I dunno? I’m at 10:45 now and he says, ‘I’m on the edge of break up’ a setting on the amp, but what has he done to get that distortion? Pushed the gain? Contour? Hell I’m annoyed ! He said he’ll play it clean ! Bit of reverb. There’s more going on there surely? I came here to hear the clean sound of the guitar, and some technical info.
