Welcome to another Big Train Tour at the Colorado Railroad Museum! This month, we’ll be taking a look at the outdoor Garden Railroad located on the Museum grounds. Since its beginnings in the mid-1990s, this operating layout has grown to become one of the Museum’s most popular attractions. But when it was first being constructed, this was a pioneering project in the garden railway world-and the Colorado Railroad Museum was a much different place!
Join Colorado Railroad Museum Executive Director Paul Hammond as he explores the history behind the Museum's unique railroad collection!

I visited the RR museum in July 2022. It is an absolute piece of work. The staff is very friendly & knowledgeable. Besides the garden railroad, there is plenty to see & do. The ride on train that makes a complete loop is a wonderful experience. I've been a train nut my entire Boomer life & I recommend this place to rail fans of all ages . I plan on visiting again in 2024. Happy Rails to you 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃

The Garden Railway is quite cool. I would like to see it with some G scale trains running around it, when I come back to the Colorado Railroad Museum.

At 9:23 minutes into this video is a photo of my garden railroad in Boone Iowa with D&RGW engine 455 pulling a short freight over a curved trestle. I am pleased that a photo of my railroad got into your video, but how did you get it? I have since moved to Altoona IA and reconstituted my railroad on a larger footprint with more track. Please let me know whom I may thank for submitting the photo to you.

Very informative video - I love the old photos of the DGRS setup.

I think you miscounted the number of large-scale track loops. I only count six as one of the apparent loops actually crosses over itself so what appears to be two loops is actually just one; that is according to your diagram.

I'll have to go count tomorrow - I'm not sure how many they've got set up at the moment.....

I would really like to find HO scale models of RGS 20, D&RGW 346, and 491.

I don’t think g stands for garden. G is just the name of the gauge like O gauge Ho and N gauge

I have usually heard that G comes from LGB where it is short for "groß" (or large). But the 45mm gauge is most accurately called 1 gauge, and the combination of 45mm gauge and ~1:22± scale is what is usually referred to as G scale.
