In my last video, I installed the Big Tree Tech E3 RRF to this Sovol SV01 and used sensorless homing to maximize the print volume. This board also came with a WiFi module, but even though the ESP8266 module can't compare with OctoPi, the simple features are quite handy. The user guide that came with Big Tree Tech doesn’t have much detailed information on how to set it up, so I will guide you through it step by step.
The ESP8266 is actually a processor that can work independently to control other devices. When we do Arduino projects, we will also use this low-priced ESP8266 module to connect to our own WiFi network, control lights, mosfets, sensors, motors, and cameras. To use it for the 3D printer’s WiFi controller, we want to load a simple web based interface on this module so we can send GCode commands via the web browser. As the ESP8266 is connected to the motherboard through a serial port, it will send our gcode commands line by line to the motherboard and operate the printer. There are some limitations. The weakest point of this setup is uploading the files. It takes a really long time so you actually have no idea if the program is dead or still uploading, but I will talk about this later.
We need to upload another firmware for the ESP WiFi module as the Marlin firmware is just for the motherboard to control the 3D printer. The ESP module is an independent chip so we need another firmware to let it enable WiFi and run a web interface for us to send gcode commands...

The purpose of making this video is to share what I did to update the firmware to make it works on my printer. Since the manufacturer may change the hardware configuration from time to time, the firmware that works on my printer may NOT work on yours. Please use it at your own risk, in case it doesn't work, I am not able to provide support to identify your problem. Thank you!

FANTASTIC video. I could NOT get the wifi to talk to the printer. It was your enabling of COM3 that did it. Thanks so much!

Great explanation, you're doing a good job in presenting complex things in an easy and comprehensive way. Even if I won't upgrade my printer with this board it was interesting to see the possibilities. Thank you so much for your effort.

I've been trying to get ESP3D to work on MKS tenybee v1.0 for quite a long time. The json error constantly pops up.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the json data. No one has been able to answer how to solve this at all

so the TL;DR is that it still can't really remote-print like octopi, due to the way it transfers/uploads files?

Any idea why my RFF board will not accept the ESP3D upload. Ive waited 5 minutes and it is still a blue screen. When I turn it off and check the sd card the name has changed to firmware

I have 3 RRF boards, one of them has a bad ESP module, in your case, it's hard to tell unless you have another board to try.

I had same trouble just now, It take me one day fixing it, I had no success with Marlin bin files so I change to load into the printer the reprapfirmware, and duetwifiserver.bin file and after checked everything was working with wi-fi hardware, I than follow this tutorial of AuroraTech and I made it works with marlin too, of course after many changes and tries. Seemed that some corrupted file or incompatibility.

@@VioFax It's just a waste of time dealing with this motherboard when there are better quality motherboards out there.
