GREAT SONG and BAND but do appreciate that They're Mostly American as IAN THORNLEY met his Bandmates at Berkeley School of Music in Boston, I believe... We CDNs get SPOILED by getting to See Them LIVE, which is SPECTACULAR! But, YES they Sure DESERVE GREATER Recognition for Their AWESOME TUNEAGE... Most Definitely! 😂 ❤

I am an American. This song was not a hit in the States. I am grateful that in the 1990s I went to Western Washington University just across the border in Bellingham Washington, and that Rock 101 Vancouver was my soundtrack while there. I remember Rock 101 playing this greät song like mad in the Summer of 1998. So for one American, it *was* a hit in America. lol

Canadians are accustomed to Canadian songs receiving little to no air play in the US. It's intentional. They're being blocked. When you look at Canada's population size and how many great bands come from Canada, it's off the charts. A lot of Americans don't get exposed to Canadian artists until they visit Canada (where you can actually hear them on the radio) or when they make it into Hollywood movies and/or gain international fame. I remember doing a project back in music class and the goal was to pick a Canadian artist and do a bio on them. This was back when I was at an age where I didn't think about things like where the band came from. I thought it was going to be difficult to find a Canadian artist until I realized they were all pretty much Canadian. Canada probably puts out more top songs and top artists than any country other than the US. It's unreal. We punch way above our weight class musically.
@cantdrivefiftyfive
@cantdrivefiftyfive 5 лет назад
@@taekwondotime Dude, I think that Canadians get a LOT of exposure, it's just that few make a big deal about the fact that they are Canadian. Look how many good bands in the States head to California to make it big and then are called a California band when they make it after a few years. Life ain't fair...
@taekwondotime
@taekwondotime 5 лет назад
@@cantdrivefiftyfive Canadian artists get a lot of exposure in Canada and overseas, but it's typically the US market that is the last market on earth to be aware of their success because they do their best not to give any air time to Canadian artists on American radio stations. It's a "Made in America" bravado thing.

@tinnertinner2383 what makes music so great is that anybody can consider their favorite piece of music THEIR favorite. The entire comment thread contradicts this theory. Nobody came here randomly to listen to this song, yet we are all getting nostalgic sitting here listening consciously. Of course, when he wrote this song, doing this wasn't an option..if you didn't have the tape, it had to be in some car across the street.

It’s crazy to me that these guys aren’t seen as the rock heroes that they are! I hadn’t thought of them in years, but as soon as I read “Big Wreck” in the title of a video on YT, it all came rushing back like it was yesterday.. the oaf, that song, albatross, ALL badass songs that were my anthems back in the day, I’m an American, I thought these guys were HUGE, and as far as I’m concerned they will ALWAYS be huge to me! Their music just hits like nothing else.. a band kinda like Seven Mary Three that just was “there”.. the soundtrack of my life during that era.. love you guys, hope to get a chance to see you live here in ‘24 (come to Fresno Ca!, I’ve got a friend who’s a promoter who I know would bring you out, let’s do this!)

I was a rookie metro cop when this came out. I'd play it on a ..discman...under my helmet, get on my gsxr750 and hit the highway at about 160 mph.... Best riding song of the 90s.

I saw them many years ago in a tiny club in KC. They were absolutely amazing! After their set, they played a ton of cover tunes just because they didn't want to stop playing... and tore it up! Ian was smokin on guitar that night! Like he was possessed with the spirit of Jimi!!

Saw them in Baltimore while they were supporting "The Pleasure and the Greed." The club held about 50 people, and it was at about 50% capacity. Some weird industrial band made up of 17-year-olds opened for them, and they had these lighting effects that they'd trigger with pedals throughout their set. Then Big Wreck hits the stage, and Ian's already half in the bag. Didn't matter. Playing to 25 people, he put on one of the best shows I've ever seen. At the end of their last song, he handed me his bottle neck while nearly passing out drunk. I still have it 15 years later. Outside this hole in the wall was their massive tour bus, and me and my friend chatted with the rest of the bad for a half hour. It was one of the best - and saddest - music experiences I've had. I understand the addiction - if I were that great and only 25 people turned up to see me play, I'd drink, too. Hands down the greatest band - and greatest front man/guitarist - to almost make it. That's got to be a heavy burden to carry; they were about three years too late to the party, and it made all the difference in the world.

Always loved this tune...it reminds me of the day I got my old Dodge truck road worthy. Guess I was 18, and feeling young and free! I took it for it's first boot on the 401 going way past Bowmanville and back, This song had just come out, and I heard it several times on different radio stations during my ride. That was an awesome day. Love how a song can bring back memories like that. And the funny thing is the song is about who gets nostalgic when listening to a song in his truck! just how I feel when I listen to it

I stumbled across this after seeing Big Wreck's latest album listed on Billboards recommended top Alt. Rock albums. Truly a hidden gem of late 90's Alt. Rock/Post Grunge style hard rock. That era really had such a defined sound and this capture's that 100%, pure nostalgia for the ears.
