How u leave out NAS...he was out then
@NW7386
@NW7386 4 месяца назад
Nas was straight hip hop, he wasn't with the mainstream shit yet. Goodie Mobb and Outkast and everyone he's tslking about were the most mainstream of rap music at the time. Theres a lot of people he's leaving out technically, but their aren't that relevant to the story tbh. They were relevant to hip hop but not directly to his story.
@apexone5502
@apexone5502 4 месяца назад
@@NW7386 exactly. Nas’ debut album dropped the same year OutKast’s debut had dropped. Nas might’ve been that dude in NY but overall he hadn’t reached his status yet in the mainstream.
@NW7386
@NW7386 4 месяца назад
@apexone5502 WHOA haha. That's not what I meant. Nas was that guy across the board if we talking critical acclaim and top tier lyricism. He didn't mentioned BONE in this interview either and they were there as well. All I was saying is that Nas wasn't relevant to Gipp's story, and he wasnt chasing the mainstream yet. He was making a name for himself within the culture first, among the lyricists and the top tier MC's. Outkast wasn't doing that. Its just like if you talk to Nas about 93-94-95 he's probably not gonna mention Outkast or Goodie Mobb either. They weren't that relevant to his story either. But that doesn't take away from their greatness or how relevant they were overall. They hit the mainstream quicker because they had playas ball and they were on what was mainly an R&B label, Laface. They didnt need to prove anything because there was no one else in Atlanta to really compete. Nas had much greater comp in NY. Critically, Southernplayalistic wasn't an overall greater album than illmatic. They were both dope af. Nas wasn't trying to be super mainstream and he didn't have an LA Reid behind him to try and make him be. That's the difference. I just wanted to make that clear. Nas been that guy. Outkast and Organized Noise were a little more commercial friendly, but that doesn't make them better they were playing a different game and did it well. Neither one of them were on Nas' level lyrically at the time. They had to grow as well. I hope that clears up what I was trying to say.
@apexone5502
@apexone5502 4 месяца назад
@@NW7386 Nas was mainly that dude up north during the Illmatic years. There’s a reason why it took many years for that album to go platinum and it wasn’t because of the bootlegging up that way. I’m not saying Nas was trash or anything but he got most of his burn up north at that time. I was just agreeing that he wasn’t at his mainstream status yet.

NY def fronts on Big Boi. No way they could hear him talk aggressively as being 1 of the best and stand behind it. It would just hurt NYs feelings 2 2 bad 2 say both Big and Dre is amongst the best ever.
@NW7386
@NW7386 4 месяца назад
Big Boi is dope but he's not one of the best ever. Yall have to realize how many dope MC's have come out over the years from every region etc. He's super dope especially out of Atlanta and the South. But not the best when you talking hip hop in general. It's not that anyone fronts in Big Boi, he's just not anything you haven't heard before lyrically. If you compare actual bars, 3000 has colored outside of the lines way different. took his shit to another level as of their 2nd album. It's not the same, everyone can't be goats.
@3MUnique
@3MUnique 4 месяца назад
@@NW7386 I respect ur analysis. Seems 2 be coming from an authentic place. I just happen 2 disagree. Big Boi bodied Dre a bunch of times throughout OutKast’s catalog, on lyrics and hooks. Big Boi is not just 1 of the best out of Atlanta. OutKast is among the very best, period. There’s 2 of them. I’ve been listening 4 a long time. U guys that r not from Atlanta need some1 to “color outside of the lines” but the emcees in other regions gain a rep from speaking specifically 2 their region. Ur ears simply have 2 catch up.

A few people out of the 5 tried to mimic that as well. If you go back to some of the biggest 80's songs you can hear that DC 's Go Go sound. Go on about your business.

@850des
@850des 5 месяцев назад
The south is where 90% of African Americans originated in the US via the slave trade... the south birthed every source of black music in the US (hip hop being a branch from that tree). The south lit HipHop up greater than the east and the west coast, and held the title longer than both (Over 20 years on top). Say what you want, but the south won't be denied.

No. Bad Boy records started doing that glossy rap music and that started the downfall. I can remember the underground heads, especially the ones from up north, crying about how Puffy was ruining Hip Hop back in the late ‘90s. Bad Boy’s success inspired other NY rappers to leave the real stuff and start doing that pop club rapping which resulted in one of the worst eras of Hip Hop from the late ‘90s to the early 2000s. It was so bad De La Soul, The Roots, and a host of others who stayed true were calling out the BS east coast rappers were on back then. I’ve noticed a lot of northerners love to forget your part in ruining Hip Hop.
