The Lorax (1972) Original Story by Dr. Seuss, Dir. Hawley Pratt, The Cat in the Hat Productions, CBS Productions, DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. Music: "Biggering - Original Demo" The 88, The Lorax Singers.
tbf it would have been a sore thumb among the rest of the movie. the movie itself is way too corporate. theyd have to actually stick to the themes of the lorax and start their movie production over to include this song.
@@Sputterbugz yea they couldnt just make an "corporations dont know better we are sorry we poisoned the water supplies,we never wanted to do it" film's probably most remenbered character with a song wich tells "we dont care lmao and we know you getting poisioned, also well make something more controversial so noone realised what we did" to the same character, hell if was the corporation i woulndt wante to make an self sabotage dilm for me
I really think they were afraid of show this, the message is that greed is being feed by you, big wolfs aren't just predators they also are victims of themselves
@@Sputterbugz the original soundtrack is all like this, they clearly caved to corporate wants, they can claim it was for any reason they want to argue but they simply caved.
you know that fits because in the movie the lorax tells the once-ler "a tree falls the way it leans". the lorax wants the once-ler to lean in the right direction away from greed and destruction and biggering.
The choose was rough. Without Biggering, we missed one of the most epic songs on the animated film industry. Without How Bad Can I Be, We would have missed the memes.
What they could’ve done was play Biggering sometime after How Bad Can I Be to really show The Onceler’s descent into madness Then we’d get the best of both worlds
lets say that biggering could play some time after how bad can i be, maybe to show that how bad can i be is the once-ler wondering If hes evil and biggering would be his descent into some sick villain arc
@@Aurthur_morgan1 It's the impact. That line shows that he is beyond saving. He has become a shell of his former self. As sad as it is, this is true for any large business. Something has to die somewhere to produce your product, be it trees for cardboard boxes, or animals for pelts.
@@coldbluebrownie Much less death than is caused by fossil fuels though. Nuclear is not clean, but it is at least better than fossil fuels. It's pretty damn expensive and risky though.
Honestly I prefer this over 'how bad can I be' it slaps, it's darker, and also shows how greed can really change someone and how bad the cutting down trees thing was.
Hell, I'd say the two songs complement each other. HBCIB feels like the Once-ler downplaying the damage he does to the environment, whereas this one has him straight up try to justify what he is doing, claimimg that his company is just as much part of nature as everything else
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 in my opinion How Bad Can I Be pushes the narrative that companies don't understand the damage that they're doing, they do, or at least are climate change deniers which is a whole nother issue. Biggering really plays in on how they actively picked wealth over protecting Earth, especially with the line "who cares if some things are dying"
The song is too long and nobody would want to sit for 5 minutes because of it, also the lyrics are to meaningful and would get complaints from parents of how dark it is for their children
Seeing all these Biggering fan videos after being familiar with the song for maybe a week or two, I’m dead serious if this song was in the Lorax movie, it would be known as one of the best villain songs ever made, maybe even on par with Hellfire (ok bold statement but Biggering is just THAT good idc)
People would’ve liked the Lorax more if this movie made it to the Final Cut. It gives off a Pink Floyd kind of feel with how the song is constructed. The way it builds is similar to how the Onceler is building his company then it slows at the very end, knowing it’s too late to go back now. It’s a shame this didn’t make it in because, holy fuck would this change the landscape.
@@vizardonator8571 What does that have to do with the rest of the conversation? He says that he likes a detail, I say that detail is indispensable. Where is the "criticism" part?
@@adamtomascaicedogomez4048 I feel it unnecessary when someone says “I like/love something” and there is a response that says “Even despite what you’re saying, it should be kept in.” They liked that detail, and you could’ve said you liked it too or something, maybe add another part of the film that was put over biggering in a nice way, but writing a comment that makes it sound like you’re responding to criticism about a detail by having a positive point about that detail despite the opposition of the original commenter makes it seem like you missed the tone of the original comment.(Sorry for the somewhat run on sentence at the end, and if English is not your first language I can see how this could’ve gone over your head.)
@@vizardonator8571 Not so much, I understood the point...somehow. Its basically that I'm talking like a real critic but he's talking like a subjective way. Something like that? Uh, so, sorry I guess. I didn't notice that, and I don't think that is relevant but, ok.
You know, I think both this AND How Bad Can I Be could have been in the movie. Have a shorter version of HBCIB aimed directly at the Lorax in the “I’ve just cut down one! I’m doing no harm!” Scene, and then, when things truly get out of hand, have Biggering! Edit: I forgot to explain why. Have just the first verse of HBCIB with the “there’s a principle of nature” part, and then, later in the movie, after the Lorax’s part in Biggering, have the OnceLer say “Did you not listen to me the FIRST time we had this argument?” And sing the “principle of nature” part from Biggering.
Yes. This. _Biggering_ is not only a fantastic song, but the existence of _How Bad Can I Be?_ As a lighter, more sanitized version of it actually adds to its impact. Having the audience first hear _How Bad Can I Be?_ and then later on get a darker, realer version of it would have a jaw-dropping effect. I'd also keep the line "Who cares if a few trees are dying?" in _How Bad Can I Be?_ it pairs nicely with the line "Who cares if _some things_ are dying?!" in _Biggering._
What's crazy is they actually were being written at the same time, so yeah if Lorax had gone just a bit further in production, Illumination would have no grounds to stand on in terms of the whole self-critical angle...
I love the visual combination with the lyrics at 4:30. When the lyrics "Who cares if some things are dying?" comes up, the Lorax saves a barbaloot from being killed by a machine. It implies that a few have been killed before or after, which makes it even darker (and thus more amazing) with this taken into mind. I would have loved the dark tone of the original animation in the movie, with a bigger focus on the original story. It's annoying how much the new version centers on a plot that didn't even exist in the book. Though it adds a bit of insight into the lasting effects caused by the Onceler's actions, the movie barely touches down on the original story. Which means it can barely even be called an "adaptation". We need yet another remake, one including this tone and Biggering.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but for the most part when the voice actor was singing in hbcib the first half of the song sounded like he didn’t have much effort, but the moment the song reached the last part, after the “how bad can I possible be? let’s see.” part, he sounded much more zealous, that guy put in more effort in the part that showed how bad corporations can be, even if it wasn’t as great as biggering
The song was made for the new Lorax, it didn’t make it into the movie but this person pieced together pieces of the original Lorax to show an animation for this song, the song is new, the animation is not.
i hate how this song got removed because it's *ACTUALLY A FUCKING MASTERPIECE* the music theory behind this, the lyrics, the meaning why illumination ( i mean i know why but... *w h y ?* )
I love that the Principle of Nature part was still kept in How bad can I be. It shows that even though this song didnt make it they atleast wanted to keep one part.
The executives at Comcast and Illumination must have been TRIGGERED by this song, thus it was cut from the film. How could they stand something so honest?
This song was much better than how bad can I be. In HBCIB, the oncler pretty much says that he doesnt think that what hes doing is that bad and he doesnt really realize what hes doing is morally wrong, but this song is about him coming terms with the fact that what hes doing is wrong, he just doesnt care. Its a lot more realistic that way
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff I had a little cottage And that cottage was enough A place where I could sit and knit A place where I could sell my Thneeds But now I've had a little time To re-assess my needs And I need a bigger office I need a bigger chair A bigger desk, a bigger staff A bigger hat to wear Because I'm biggering I'm figuring I'm biggering And biggering is triggering More biggering Hey, listen up, meathead I'm going to say this once, and I'm not gonna repeat it Greed ya see, it's like a little pet, alright? I love how 2012 The Lorax couldn't have been a worse adaptation. Dr. Seuss book/ 1972 movie try to express how the Once-ler is not an "person", it's a company. That's why he is never represented fully, and only his hands, because he hasn't a personality, he only thinks and works for money, and biggering. Talking about Biggering, giant mistake of Ilumination to cut this song out of the movie. Now, on the 2012 adaptation, they made everything look more kid-friendly, giving the Once-Ler a personality and even making him likable, because of 2 little factors: -This would make a big Self-Critic -merch 2 things that the original story tries to criticise. Also the side story with the seed thing was just a giant meme.
@@omodevand he was REALLY racist! And honestly when his wife was pissed off about the Cat in the Hat movie I felt like saying "Well that's what you get for marrying a rascist!"
4:22 That part is really good. The images flashes to give you a wide idea of everything the Once-Ler is doing to keep is business growing, while the environment is getting completely destroyed.
Yup, when the people making the movie asked for a song about the onceler's greed, they came out with Biggering. But the song was good, it described greed so good that the company realized how the song described themselves, so they rewrited the song and that's what "How bad can i be" is.

@@thenewbaronzyafton6860 and the animal that doesn’t well the animal that doesn’t winds up someone else’s l-l-l-l-lunch! (m-m-m-m-munch!) I just realised that’s how bad can I be not biggering 🤣
biggering gives us a villain who knows what he's doing. it gives us a villain who doesn't care. it mimics billionaires and corporations who own sweatshops, who underpay their workers, who pollute the air and the ground and want to build fucking factory towns to expand their operations. they don't care who they have to step on, who they have to destroy, to get on top. in a film where biggering is his theme, this is the onceler. how bad can i be gives us a villain who honestly doesn't get it. he's deluding the public (with lines like "a portion of proceeds go to charity"), but he's also deluding himself. we see a man who's corrupting himself with greed and doesn't realize it until it's too late. the lyrics would be more powerful if it had a similar tune to this song, but it's vaguely reminiscent of modern pop and doesn't pack nearly the same punch -- and since the song grows gradually darker, we still get that idea that he just really, really doesn't _get it._ we deserved a film that told billionaires to go shove it. what we got was a watered-down version of something that could've been great, just so it would be more digestible. the original message is what makes kids' movies memorable even years after they're released. the easy one, it's forgettable.
The fact that this could’ve been avoided and more profitable if the once-ler just cut the thneeds off the trees and left them in the ground is wild to me
i love this song, i really do, at the end, where it gets more extreme you can just feel the environment collapsing, the industry growing, people getting poorer per day, and the world falling more and more apart, its also really dope tbh
I find this song with this animation very dark especially with the oncelers hands being the only thing shown in his appearance it give it a more dark and greedy take maybe showing how the hands are used to touch and take things...
The point of the onceler is that he could be anyone, which is why only his gloved hands and arms are shown, because it could be you or me under those gloves. To go further, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Onceler isn't a bad person, he's a completely average person who's stumbled upon a golden goose, and his indecision and rationalisations and cavalierness have inadvertently resulted in the destruction of the environment. That's why I'm not a super big fan of the Biggering song in the story sense, because it does makes the Onceler seem self-aware, and doesn't carry the idea that doing nothing isn't enough super well.
@@phantomfire50131:43 the Lorax explains Onceler's situation, it's his Pride and greed that caused it. It was because of his pride, ego and greed that he did all that, when he got rich with the Thneeds.
@@LennyQUMFIF And if you just listened to this song instead of the original materials, you might actually believe that even though it's completely the wrong message.
Y sí, porque lo que hizo el Once-Ler no tiene justificación. Lo hicieron alguien malo, y no un malentendido llevado a la maldad por su familia como How Bad Can I Be?

Imagine dreamworks made a new lorax movie and they got the rights for this song and they included it in the movie. I really need to see this song used in a future lorax movie before I die
I feel like how bad can I be and biggering could have existed together. How bad can I be showing the greed blinding the onceler to his actions, and then biggering showing him slowly realizing the damage he’s done, but choosing to continue anyway
being honest, even now, this song almost disturbs me, because of how dark it sounds. it almost gives me anxiety, although it would have been better to use in the movie
In this movie, the onceler doesnt have a redemption, nothing, the costumers dont regret anything and theres no difference, the onceler doesnt regret anything as he is beyond saving, blinded by greed
the fucking lorax picking his ass and going away made me cry several times, it's so beatifull and not everyone can resist to this moment, it's a truly legend moment and at this time I was holding my sadness and then he says "I am the real fucking lorax" made me cry in tears, truly a lorax moment
I swear this "Unless" always gives me the chills... It scares me to think that one day things will end up like this animation, with nothing to explore, nothing to get more money from. What will happen then?
Wow, this even has a Dr. Seuss vibe to it in the word-play and message to the original story! WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SONG?! It’s so good, it really could’ve amped up the film adaptation to almost ten-fold if they had left it in the story😤
