Biggest Dog In The World! The English Mastiff 

I have two females ones 110 at 9 months the other 105 litter mates and I can truly say they are an amazing breed. Ducky and peachey are their names. I'll never get another breed after these.

I would love one but the drool is too much for me. Currently trying to find a good greater Swiss mountain dog breeder.

6 years at minimum. Though 8-10 is more likely, it is still too short of a lifespan for such a sweet and loving as well as courageous dog

Our French Mastiff is essentially a fat, 15-year old house cat in dog form.

Look for a private breeder, not kennel’s , English kennel club has a list of breeders

There is a mastiff breaker in nova scotia Canada wich is were I got my Xander who I'd 170lbs one year old and amazing super healthy and my breeder takes it very seriously and has been breeding nastiffs for over 20 years very important to be very picky when getting a mastiff do your research on the health of the dogs from the broader ore the dog will prob not live long

There were giant dogs like english mastiffs, st bernards, and newfoundlands that got over 300lbs, but for large dogs like that 180-200 is more towards the typical high end, but I have a st bernard that is projected to be 245lbs, which is what I weigh.

It's breathing (you can see its stomach going in and out) so I would say so.

They don’t live long .. their joints and internal organs arnt great at supporting the bulk .. I lost my girl at 6 years as her back end failed on her but she was probably the best dog I’ve ever had or known .. the video sums them up very well.. they are even tempered, loving, obedient, loyal .. you don’t know your being protected till you need them and they will stand up for you without fail but you need to be sure you have them well trained tho as with their size you can’t physically control them if they were to ‘intervene’

@@spotsandstripes2 I know they’re short lived. But i wanted to know is they suffer for long period? Because i love gentle giant's like English Mastiff, BMD, Newfoundland and Saint Bernerd. But it will be very painful for me to see my dog suffer from a disease for longer period. I'm afraid of it 😢

@@neverbored8589 it depends on the individual.. they need to be kept of road walking and only the exercised gently on grass while they are growing to help protect their soft developing joints, they are very prone to hip and elbow dysplasia if care isn’t taken and this would leave them with chronic lifelong pain, even with care they can still suffer this if they were bred badly with no hip scoring done on parents .. but any breed bar a few have issues, King Charles are prone to syringa myelia (I’m dyslexic scuse my spelling), show line German shepherds have a ridiculously bad hip dysplasia problem as standard, sharpei and neopolitan mastiff dogs along with others with skin folds are prone to skin infections, there are breeds that can’t digest copper and it causes toxicity, breeds with major chronic allergy issues the list goes on and on .. so it all depends on what your mind set is as to what you consider to be suffering really.. If you want a dog free from health issues perhaps consider a show line border collie or a jack Russel .. working breeds tend to be physically healthier because they need to be fit to work.. just bare in mind that with a working dog you get a working brain, they need more structure and training to keep their busy brains occupied or they are prone to developing unwanted behaviours

I think it's important to have such a bond with your dog that you feel when they're suffering. I lost my last Mastiff just shy of 11 years. She had been giving me cues for about a year that the end was near and once she got to the point she was no longer eating or drinking and had stopped obeying commands, I knew it was time. I was so devastated, it took several years for me to be able to get another EM puppy.

What’s the problem with pushing a breed that is vulnerable (less than 200 registered per year) I love everything about the breed except the drooling and eventually when I do end up getting one the drooling is the only thing about them that will take me a while to get used to. Everything else about them matches up perfectly with my lifestyle.

As a dog trainer and behaviorist for 38 years. What he is saying about Mastiffs is not correct. The English Mastiff is very sweet loving animal. If you socialize them like any other dog they make great family dogs and are great in public. I use to take my Mastiff Fiona to second grade classes because in the second grade they read a book called Henry and Mudge. So we would go to let the kids meet a real Mudge and we would teach dog safety. Fiona was one of the best dogs I’ve ever had and I have had a lot of dogs. I would take her to restaurants and as we got up to leave people would say “OMG, I didn’t know you had a dog over there. I tell people a Mastiff is a giant throw rug, she swam like an alligator, so smoothly there was barely a ripple. She loved swimming. Before I taught her to swim I heard Mastiff can’t swim, well Fiona made a liar out of them. The only downside to owning a Mastiff is you will be stopped everywhere you go. I knew how celebrities felt. We would literally discuss if we are in the mood to deal with people’s magnetism to her. We went to a biker festival one time and we did not move for a half an hour because as soon as people left us more would come up and you hear the same thing over and over again, we thought about getting her a vest that said no I’m not a boy, my name is Fiona, I’m a English Mastiff, I weigh 150lbs, no I’m not walking my mom. Same questions over and over again. Like any breed, do your homework find a good breeder, ask to meet the parents, check out the other dogs they have and make sure all the dogs are social. This applies to every dog you get. Aggressive behavior can be a genetic trait, that’s why you want to meet the parents. I spent 3 hours two different visits with Fiona’s breeder and parents. Mastiff is a great dog.
