Nick Taylor authorised Stack and Tilt and GOLFTEC instructor discusses the biggest mistake amateur golfers make with the hand path in the golf swing.
Golfers are told to maintain bend in the right knee to turn but this prevents the hips from tilting and restricts the amount the golfer can move the hands inwards in the backswing.
In this video Nick shares a drill to help you golfers move the hands inwards on plane to help you draw the golf ball and hit more consistent shots.

Nick, that little nugget about not letting the trail knee bend too much in the downswing was my key. Thank you. I couldn't figure out how doing all of the other movements correctly still led to some inconsistent contact and slightly out-to-in path as well sometimes.

I have listened to 100’s maybe even 1000’s of golf tips. Never has anyone said anything about how we bend the right knee and excessive bend in the down swing could cause an over the top move. Nice work here!

Nick- Your vids came up on my feed and I've wanted to get to my local GolfTec for some help. I watched this video, on hand position, and another one of a woman you helped. I'm a 66 yr old with a 6 hdcp and put to use some of the things you pointed out with swing plane and hands. Gotta say I struck the ball really well and your input was key. I was pulling the ball with my irons, but I'm guessing I'm still coming over the top and not getting my front shoulder low enough. Either way, with zero range work after watching your stuff I saw/felt improvements in my score/swing. Thanks. Hoping to head to Orlando GT.

I've found that pulling my right foot back a little & flared out really helps. The trigger I have now before I swing is to pull my right shoulder & hip back a little. Then I try to keep my arms straight and as I take the club back I feel like it is going way wide(isn't really) & then I pause slightly at the top & as I shift I keep my right elbow in as I come down & it feels like I'm going way to the right(I'm not) & contact has improved a great deal. Yesterday I hit 7/10 solid & 3/ 10 slightly fat behind the ball. Amazingly this method seems to have really helped with a chronic early extension problem I had.

Really need to work on getting my hands working behind me more, yet another informative video, loving my golf at the minute and a lot of it is down to you and my switch to S&T. My driving has never been more consistent, just wish I could find a few more mph :)

Hi Nick, welcome back and Happy New Year. I have been working hard on the flat wrist drills with the Watson training aids and happy to say I have gone from an open club face push fade to a slightly closed face pull hook. Looking at my swing videos I have a much flatter wrist but my hand path and lack of hip drive is causing the over the top move. So next step in the process is exactly what you are teaching in this lesson. Hope to be back on Skillest in a month or so to show you the progress. Until then I will keep drilling in the inside bay.

Hey Nick, love your videos very helpful! Correct me if I’m wrong but looks like you may suffer from early extension. I struggle with this as well. Any videos on early extension?

Nick- great video and drill. Regarding your hand path, are you pushing down on the handle to hinge the club as you take it back inside to guard against rolling the club and getting the club too far inside on the takeaway? Thanks!

Nick, I love this method and your video is superb. I have trouble keeping my left arm straight in the backswing, so do you have any drills or advice to help me achieve this? Or is it essential that a person needs to keep it straight?
@NickTaylorGolf
@NickTaylorGolf 2 года назад
Thanks James, the main reasons that golfers struggle with the left arm flex is how you tilt and extend the spine and/or hinge the wrists in the backswing

Nick, in the slo-mo it looks like you’re doing a right over left hand roll release vs a body release. What’s your insight into both methods? I was taught to roll years ago, but really hard to time it at impact and then i started more of a pull/hook action. Body release has helped with my club face awareness and straighter ball flight, but still get a bit “handsy” at times. Thx.

Nick hands forward at address with the iron but what about a fairway wood would you suggest a more central stance. Perhaps you have a vid you could suggest to watch? Thank you.

What is this new tech for measuring your angles??? Is this a new golftec device?
@NickTaylorGolf
@NickTaylorGolf 2 года назад
It’s a new tech picked up through an update in the cameras. Originally we had to wear sensors to pick up the 3D motion

Cant seem to get that shoulder tilt. Is it because I'm not moving the club enough on the inside and stance open?
@NickTaylorGolf
@NickTaylorGolf 2 года назад
Could be lack of hip turn so try and straighten the right leg more in the backswing

Your trail foot , at the start of the back swing starts to come up, then comes down a bit, with a slight slide, until impact, at which point you go up to the toe position. Would you recommend to keep the trail foot down until impact for better contact and more in to out path?
@NickTaylorGolf
@NickTaylorGolf 2 года назад
Yes Dale, but important to still turn and slide the hips towards the target in the downswing as you do this
