Yes and yes! I’m in my school’s nursing program now, but when I was doing my prerequisites I’d always go my college algebra professor’s office hours and just sit and do homework for that class. Most of the time she had a big group of calculus students in there asking for help on the homework, so I’d sit on the floor in the back and she’d check in on me here and there to make sure I didn’t have any questions. At the end of the semester I was a boarder line between and A or a B. She bumped one of my last homework assignments up to give me that A because she knew I put the effort in all semester.

So many times i’ve seen a college student answer this “I didn’t get enough sleep.” Stay up late to get good grades and have a good social life is great, but none of that will be possible if you get a couple hours of sleep every night.

@@Wffz-mo4qh, then it might be a sign maybe school just isn't for you. Personally just graduated high school and am making a salary equivalent to the average Americans make, and it's only been four+ months since I graduated The standards on our education system are absurd and overzealous, with that shoe size not fitting most individuals. Don't force yourself to believe you're "slow and dumb", find an environment that best suits your learning, and if that means being your own teacher, then so be it~ 💕 I teach myself new ideas and philosophies on my *own* time, and have been loving education since. As an actual college student, I’ll give it to you straight: 1. Don’t skip classes, it becomes a habit very fast. It’s not necessarily about being there to learn the material, it’s about being in a work mindset during your day. 2. Don’t sign up for morning classes unless you have to. Mainly for the past reason - it’s easier to skip classes; however you don’t learn as well if you are attending a class right after waking up. 3. Read you textbook; the textbook is far more detailed than the lectures and tests are almost always made with textbook material in mind, it’s vital to understanding the course. 4. Do homework and reading when you can, not when you ‘want’ to; I’m not saying you can’t have off time, but don’t procrastinate(this is coming from a procrastinator). 5. Study in public; studying in public creates a sense of pressure to do work, rather than by yourself, where you can let you mind wander or you can be distracted by your phone or else. 6. Be social; it’s really easy to get too deep into work and lazing around, however, this kills your mental health and slowly degrades your work ethic. Even if you are an extreme introvert, do something to get out and talk to other people. 7. Have a degree plan; your counselors are great, but they have a lot of students to worry about, so make sure you have a rough idea of what classes you need to take and when so you can get you major(s)/minor(s) in your desired time frame. 8. Lastly, keep up with your family(if you have a good relationship with them), as it’s refreshing to talk with from home every once and a while. If you have any issues, let them know, so that you can sort them out fast before it snowballs into a bigger problem. I know this advice seems overly-organized or stereotypical, but it’s stereotypical for a reason. I struggled because I didn’t take most of these seriously my freshman year and suffered because of it. College isn’t a trial by fire unless you make it one, so good luck and make wise choices.
@SenthilkumarShanmugasundaram
That’s amazing advice thanks
@emperor8716
@emperor8716 Год назад
the first one is the one i’d say to most too. i would skip some classes when i felt tired or had genuine reasons, but because of that, i eventually started skipping all my lessons lol. luckily my grades didn’t plummet, but still, not a good habit, made me feel terrible too.
@SMFlexxx
@SMFlexxx 7 месяцев назад
Number two is just straight out impossible for me. I have morning classes most days. When in chemical engineering, you are expected to get up early to prepare for the real world.
@bigbo1764
@bigbo1764 7 месяцев назад
@@SMFlexxx morning classes are fine, I know a lot of people who have very strict constitutions throughout college and are very punctual with their schedules, which makes morning classes great for them. Personally, I find a lot of college students have a late night here and there for homework, partying, or another reason, which makes it hard to wake up for class on time the next day and snowballs as mentioned; however, as mentioned, if you keep yourself in line and don’t procrastinate, you’ll rarely find yourself in a position to be forced to stay up too late into the night.

Y’all, meeting new people in college and exchanging phone numbers is so big to college success! I always got someone’s phone number from each of my classes, so that if i missed class i could ask them for notes, and Vice verse. Its also great for studying to have a study buddy or study group. With a group, you can divide big assignments (unless the teacher prohibits it) and each do a portion of the assignment, then share answers-Because in college, what matters most isn’t whether you got the assignment done, but whether you studied the information on that assignment. So the sooner you get it done, the sooner you can start studying. And best of all, you’ll have people to eat lunch with and possibly stay up late studying with (if you Want that), because life in college can definitely get repetitive and depressing-it helps to have people around you who are in it with you.

This is my personal opinion and advice of one of my professors. As a freshman in college, especially if you're new to the city, you need to find some stability. You will meet people along the way, it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have long term relations with those people, but you'll have friends who'll understand the struggle and MAYBE will become close friends later on in college. Clubs are okay, but know that your social interactions don't necessarily depend on them. My field of study requires a lot of daily work and pairing clubs with long study sessions, seminars and foreign language classes would be draining after a while. What I'm trying to say is, find and adapt to a work ethnic in your first year so you can actually have a choice in picking the club which is suited for you. All of what I've said is meant with a good intention & many may disagree with me and that's ok. All fields and school systems are different after all.

Yep. I made University friends over Quarantine over the internet, and they said they didnt actually have any friends for a few years already because of how the system lets people go their own ways. My biggest regret about (community) college (before dropping out due to the pandemic and things going to hell) was that I went there with the stereotypical expectations and pressure of the time line which young adults go through in life as shown on TV or in the movies.

My biggest regret as a college student is going to college. My college is terrible, and due to horrendous professors, complete disorganization, and a lack of care entirely, I find myself mentally struggling more than anything. My life is out of balance because I am trying to keep an A in every class, despite not hearing from my professors for upwards of a week, etc. I'm not gonna accept the honors invitations, because I refuse to be associated on a deeper level with this college, to attempt to keep myself away from the disasters within. I want to transfer, but at this rate I don't know what I'm going to do. For once, fighting for all As is digging me in a hole. Sorry, I had to rant. Hope y'all are well :)

Don’t go to college unless you know what you’re going in for and really believe that it’s going to help you in your life. Far too many people just go because they think that that’s just what you do, and end up with tons of debt and a worthless degree. You may not like to hear it, but some of the best, and even most important jobs don’t need any college at all.

If I could go back I’d go to a trade school or community college to get the core classes out the way- it’s way cheaper and you’ll have more time to figure out what you want to major in then transfer to get a bachelors degree if you want to

My biggest regret was getting too caught up in being in college before I was ready and knew what I was going to do, that I spent most of my time there being extremely stressed and depressed and not making new friends and having unique experiences. Living on a college campus is such a unique setting, you're surrounded by people who are like-minded but different from you, don't squander the social opportunity a campus gives you.

About to be a college senior. Don’t rush into college if you’re not entirely sure what you want to do. You’re better off working while you figure it out if you’re not certain. Even if you *think* you know what you want, that could change, and that’s perfectly okay. You’re constantly growing as a person, and college is not the end all of your career. Finally, talk to students about campus life, especially if you plan on dorming. I neglected that to solely focus on education and it was a massive mistake. Get to know what living on campus will be like on a day to day basis before accepting.

I talked to a bunch of people, still made no friends and finished it all on my own. I only talked to others when necessary concerning a class, especially group work. I always remained polite and respectful. Just because you don’t have friends does not mean you can’t succeed and survive. It was hard at first, but I pulled through. However, if lack of socialisation, introvert or not, is taxing to your own mental integrity, I wouldn’t advise doing what I did unless you are confident you can help it without it effecting your performance in life, especially in academics. If I had any regrets, it would without a doubt, not attending enough events and external seminars to branch out career connections and opportunities to learn a lot more and and gain potentially additional knowledge in the business world.

Most clubs in college also don't require you to attend regularly or actually do anything to be considered a member. Many clubs just put on fun events every now and again and you can go to those with no commitment. After your first year of going to different events and seeing which clubs you like, then you might decide on one or two to try and become an officer in, which means that you would have responsibilities and potentially even leadership opportunities.

My advice is you should not overthink a lot in school. Over thinking will only hinder you on being efficient with your studies because your worried about things your not in control of, just remember do not stress yourself out, relax. Only think of the present. I personally encountered this when I was in grade 8, I over think a lot. Thinking about outcomes and running my thoughts while doing school work. Which resulted on not doing my best even I know I have it in me to achieve. Having friends also is a great help with school. You have study buddies and they can help you getting out of your head. Right now I am improving my people skills because I'm about to go to university next school year. I also plan on being active in school activities and joining clubs I'm interested in to make use of my multiple skills.

I regret being so proud to not ask questions and if I didn’t understand something I’ll would just make it harder for me and try to understand it on my own. I regret not knowing when to say no to my parent’s expectations like be an architect like your grandfather or an mathematician since you showed you were good at maths in HS or do a full time job, learn to drive while studying all at the same time when I was already underachieving at college. I regret not deciding for myself what I wanted to study. Mistakes have been made but you learn from them and now I majored in something I enjoy and I’m now always asking questions and giving my 100% on the course. My biggest regret about college is going to college. I did well for myself, managed to get a great job, but that was because I sought a niche after college quickly and managed to find a good market through other means to combine with my degree. However, I know people who took 2+ years to find jobs in their fields and know that most are not worth it, I also think I would have been happier in a more hands-on job. I wish I pursued trade instead, but I think I'll still do well. Consider other options than college, trade jobs are in high demand and get you immediately on the payroll.
