@@oddsobb Just because she's dead doesn't mean she isn't as important as the others. If she wasn't, she wouldn't have shown up as a spirit in War Of Underworld/Vol 18
8:30 To me, her reason is more like a *quick escape from reality…* or just discovering it is that, which how some gamers will define what gaming is so it's pretty good already without Mito imo.
Sorry if I did not convey it properly, but it's actually less "unanswered questions" and more "explicit information conflicting with each other that needs to be clarified".
I see! Though, I hope Reki changes Mito's introduction, involvement or narrative from the Progressive movies. Mito having such a high powered weapon from the get-go would probably also have to be changed. Hopefully, there will be no continuity issues
I'd need a refresher if Argo came up in the synopsis for either Volumes 21 or 23, because she was just as obscure in the main series LNs heading into Unital Ring. If you include "Sound of Water, Sound of Hammer", Argo might even be more obscure outside of Progressive at that point than even Ashley. In the LNs, i can't say that Asuna seemed any more stressed than usual at that time. That's normal for students in that part of the world, especially high-rankers with major exams approaching. And no, it was enough of a thing for her that Asuna went out of her way to ask Kouichirou if she could borrow his NerveGear and copy of SAO for the 1 day. It's a big deal if you haven't made any major decisions for yourself before, and you actually get to act on your own interest or whim, which you hadn't been allowed to before. (And I'll be honest here, right now, I'm actually pretty seriously involved in a decision about the next vehicle my family gets for the 1st time in my life, and that's no small thing.) Also, with Mito there, it would be way too easy, and perfectly human, for Asuna to blame her for everything when SAO turns deadly. Frankly, given the high-class upbringing, that seems more plausible in a number of respects than what Asuna does, which is blame herself and question whether she should ever make her own decisions, rather than leaving those up to her mother literally forever. And if Mito and Asuna had been in contact up until 2 years prior, that would mean the late stages of Aincrad, but that period is already quite heavily documented in the LNs proper and a number of other stories: ME:04, ME:17, "Sugary Days", ME:06: etc. And unless Asuna was hiding Mito from Kirito, which there should be no reason for that, then you could throw even more items in there. Asuna certainly wasn't shy about introducing Kirito to her friends who were craftsmen. And yeah, why create another issue if you simply don't have to in the first place...
There are so many things in this text that screams "I prefer LN solely because it's LN and nothing more". Argo has been one of the largest established side characters of Aincrad, even before Progressives. Constant references, appearances in side stories etc, and then more or less became a main character in Progressive, which lets be real, dates back to over a decade now. Of course Asuna didn't appear any more stressed than usual in real world. She had no screentime in the real world. All we get is a single page of self regret for ever wearing the NerveGear. And big decision? It wasn't a big decision. It's literally a game console mate. "Can I check out your game console" is not a big decision. And she wasn't ever "not allowed to act on a whim", she was just expected to uphold perfect marks. Comparing the "Hey, can I try playing with your Playstation 5" and "Hmmm, let us think what car should we get that we'll use for the next decade as a family" are on the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to meaningful choices. There is no reason to assume Asuna was hiding anything from Kirito. That's talking as if Kirito was hiding he spent 25 floors together with Asuna back in Volume 1. There are sooooo many potential issues with Mito being canon, but none of these are one to be honest.
Before Progressive, the only place she gets a passing mention is "Red-Nosed Reindeer'. We don't actually know anything about her. We get more than that with her actual cameo in Season 1, Episode 3. Progressive Volume 1 slightly pre-dates "The Day Before". And unless you were sufficiently in the loop for the Fan Translations, Volume 22 didn't release until 2019. The 1st part of "Sugary Days" didn't release until a year after Progressive Volume 1. (And I'm just fortunate I made documents of most of the stuff so I can do keyword searches, or it would be likely I'd miss most embeded mentions of Argo in any of the stories.) Oh come now. Asuna's inner monologue in "Morning Dew Girl" alone is more than just 1 page. You know better. The LN literally says Asuna only socialized with "friends" who were approved by her parents (namely her mother, I'm sure). When you don't feel your own interests matter, really, getting to act on them is big. There's a quote from Ayrton Senna about how the problems we have are big to us, because they are the only problems we have. If you're trying to keep a low profile on your honeymoon an you know Argo has sniffed it out, even if she says she'll hold on to that nugget and not just let it out, you're going to be all the more deliberate with your communications. On that note, why would he need to point it out? And we now have "The Day Before" and "Sugary Days" for that during that period of time. But that makes the integration of anything else that isn't already mentioned during that time all the more problematic. And I didn't bring up that I think Mito's weapon is stupidly OP for Floor 5, or that she suffers from MC Syndrome worse than Kirito himself in the movies.
@@heroboygamebase2286 Given all the crap he pulled back in Aincrad, he'd just about have to die in order to get some kind of redemption. Even leaving aside Floor 5, there's what occurred on Floor 25, and then the stunt he pulled in Material Edition 17: The Much-Talked-About, Esteemed Sub-Leader, which led to the Corvatz situation.
Shikimi is almost certainly an SAO survivor. Aside from the Sleeping Knights, nobody who wasn't an SAO survivor would even consider transferring to the SAO Survivor School. Besides which, industry insiders like the Kamura family had high priority for getting copies of SAO. In fact, Kayaba probably wanted it that way as insurance that the servers would be maintained. The liability from the SAO incident bankrupted Argus, but Kayaba having children of industry insiders among his hostages makes it personal for said industry insiders to make sure that the SAO servers keep running until the game is cleared.
I'll admit these news have me a bit worried. Nothing against Mito as a character, but tbh, retcons like this are the main reason why I'm not too big on the gameverse. Nearly every single character from every single arc is present in moments in time where they shouldn't be, for the sake of fanservice, in ways that are really forced and strech the canon(not to mention the problem with character overbloat). I don't think the LNs will have the same problem, at least not in the level of the games, but personally, I wouldn't be able to shake off that feeling of "this addition feels so artificial" when reading the novels and seeing characters from other continuities being retconned in
I mean, I wouldn't look at the Gameverse as a series of retcons, but rather its own story. But it does have its own "retroactive introductions" here and there too, which it actually sails relatively smoothly. Rain is an SAO Survivor despite being a Lost Song original character, it's just she wasn't a high tier player in SAO, so we never saw her in Hollow Fragment. Edith exists per Last Recollection, she just wasn't around in Alicization Lycoris like Nergius and Entokia were absent too etc. Retroactive introductions are really only pose a problem, when they actually conflict with existing established content.
@@heroboygamebase2286 The possibility wavers beyond a fluctuating light. Ehrrm... We'll just have to see is what I mean. I'd recommend reading through Moon Cradle and such too before inquiring on PoH.
But wait that makes no sense because for 1 in the progressive light novel she isn’t even mentioned (which I guess makes sense considering it was a WHOLE 10 years on the first volume before the movie came out) but at the same time the only way they could fix this is IF they make it so that in the main canon of the progressive series mito joined SAO but didn’t participate in the main story that much up until possibly the upcoming next progressive volume so maybe she never revealed her identity to Asuna and kept her identity a secret (or didn’t even know asuna was in the game until that point) but yeh it’s definitely mito
so gamerturk I have a question. Is Mito even in the progressive LN?? I haven't read the progressive's LN so far I have them just need to get around reading them when I get caught up with the main sao LNs.
Mito is not canon in the Progressive LNs, which is why the conflict exists. Progressive LNs are the current canon. If Mito gets introduced in Unital Ring, if nothing is stated, that would cause the Progressive movies to overwrite Progressive LNs.
This is such a bizarre way to look at things, it's just a slightly different telling of the same story. The fanbase does not have the authority to claim one particular medium as "canon/non-canon", it's all one story.
@@miles-morales121gamer6 Again, you're having trouble with the framing of the situation, there's no issue of "canon" here. She's simply been added to the story (past tense). SAO is basically made out of various "soft retcons", like, say, when the first time Kirito and Asuna met was, or how often they saw each other, or what their early relationship was like. Heck, the premise of Progressive as a whole is its own kind of soft retcon. You seem to be thinking in very binary "X or Y" terms, which is rarely helpful with fiction and storytelling. Again, it's all one story.
Could we just let both movie and novel being non-canon? Not serious question, but you know how much the non-canon story have Made so far just the purpose of filling the content, that really freaking me out. Its not gonna be suprise if Kawahara never been so much into thinking of universe line. As long as he can told something hards going on. I still remember how SaoIF told how Mito is almost met kirito in Beta test, and the full dive content that preview how Mito is somehow alive after the game finished. Its so damn confusing too much to ever think which one is the universe A, B, or C
Admittedly, I haven’t caught up too much on SAO since the early-ish episodes of Alicization, and don’t know what’s going on with Unital Ring or the other things. But I’ve at least seen the first Progressive movie so I maybe think adding Mito along might be a little okay provided that they may have to change a bit of things, though I don’t know the process on how it’ll work properly unless they can tell different kinds of events around it or do the example you mentioned with referencing stuff in a line of dialogue. Unrelated but wow, SAO has a lot of stories ever since…more than a decade or so?
Thank you. Bad sadly, especially recently, Reki rarely has a good execution. State of Unital Ring being so bloated and Floor 7 Progressives being received quite bad, has me worried all around.
@Gamerturk I see, I never knew, haven't got round to reading the newer books , got sticky uni to handle I hope sao doesn't die anytime soon , I'm too invested into sao for it just die Even if it did, I'd still play the games, I just love them
wait? So Mito will now be included in the main story? But I'm questioning? Why would Mito not contact Asuna after 2 years? Cuz she is also an SAO Survivor, so she could have been at the SAO Survivor School like everyone else? So technically, she would have seen Asuna after those 2 years?
That's really the easiest thing to explain. Example: "The SAO incident ruined my family and caused them to divorce. When the game was finally cleared, my mom took me out of the country. I tried to contact you before then, but I could never reach you (remember, Asuna was in Sugou's experiment, so she never woke up anyways). And I never got a chance again until now that I'm back in Japan."
I'm still reading Sao Progressive Volume 4 Scherzo of Deep Night again here So I can be prepared to see how well the English dub adaptation of the film does considering how i've seen English subbed version on a streaming website a year go thrice and well the dubbed version I might be watching on Crunchyroll my Samsung TV Streaming app. When i get done with the book reading it in my head chapter after chapter through the course of a few weeks I'll be watching the english dubbed version of the Scherzo soon in the future. The Subbed version was pretty good to say the least.
What I’d like to know is if there’s a particularly substantive reason that Mito didn’t contact Asuna in all that time. I’ve been working on this series of short stories on deviantART where the question is referenced, but only a fairly open ended answer is given. So, imagine my surprise when this video dropped not long after. Well, here’s hoping we get an interesting answer. Thanks for letting us know about these rumors and for the analysis.
That's the easiest to cover really as I mentioned in another comment. Example: Mito had to leave due to family matters caused by the SAO Incident. She tried to contact Asuna before she did so, but she was comatose during Fairy Dance, so she couldn't even exchange contacts and fell out of contact until now when she returned. A much better explanation when he reintroduced Argo.
@@Gamerturk I'm curious as to how Argo got back in the "game", as it were. Some time ago, this fanfic author Phantasmic Reflection, postulated on Argo's Post-SAO life, and it tugged hard on them heart strings. It'll be interesting to see if P.R.'s take was drawn from Reki's work or nor. Either way, thanks for the tidbit.
@@Falchion1984 We received why ages ago, that's why I mentioned it. She was working as an editor for an online gaming website and then started working for Kikuoka at some point.
@@Falchion1984 Considering you were replying extensively on a post about the 7th chapter of the Unital Ring arc with quite the confidence, I just assumed you had knowledge.
Chakram or Scythe I know I've seen a few characters who also use those weapons in both games and anime that being Colette From Tales of Symphonia so yeah Nezha isn't the only Chakram wielder and mito isn't the only scythe wielder considering how I already know a few scythe wielders from Black Butler and Seraph of the end looking at you Undertaker Grim Reaper and Shinoa Hiragi.
Sure, but in the SAOverse only Mito and Dorothy (from SAO Last Recollection) use the scythe. Nezha's also the only chakram user in SAO, the closest thing to it being Renly's weapon but it's not comparable either, it's more like a throwing mini boomerang blade.
