I have a 2015 sr5 4Runner running after market 17x8.5 wheels with a 0mm offset and I put 275/70/17 wildpeak at3 and they do not rub at all I had loose passenger mud flap but I just zip tied it back to the body mount! Looks great and is very flush to the body! Love it!
I run 285/70/17s on a stock 17X7 inch TRD wheel, with no offset, on my 2021 Venture Edition 4runner. I have a 3 inch lift (ARB BP-51). Works great. No issues. Before the lift I ran 275/70/17s.
I am just getting started with a 4Runner and the off-road lifestyle. Thank you for having such detailed explanations and talking about stock upgrades and things to consider now to set up for other future upgrades!!! Thank you great content
This video just confirmed my decision on my 2021 Taco off road. Decided to go with a 16x8 -10 offset with 265/75/16. Super worried about the rubbing so also going to level it out. 100% agree, smaller rim, chunky tire! Super helpful info, thanks!
no rubbing on my 21 sr with no lift on 265/75r16 yokohama geolandar m/t tires. Even full lock at almost full bed capacity. Short bed if that makes any difference.
With a negative offset and a wider tire there is 0 chance it doesn’t rub. Contrary to what most people think, negative offsets make the wheels have a wider turn radius, meaning it actually reduces the clearance between the wheel and the wheel-well when turning.
Wowzers, I leaned something today. Some super helpful info, thanks. I just got a new Tacoma TRD Off-Road and its currently all stock but I plan on getting rid of the stock wheels/tires and go to some 17"s. Down the road I'll do a suspension lift, and will probably do a block and spacer for now.
Just found your channel. Do you have any experience/thoughts on a 255/85/16, aka pizza cutters on a taco to help clear those UCAs and keeping the stock rims. A true 33 but a little narrow. I have a 2 inch lift, Bilstien 6112/5160 combo installed.
Personally I would just save up for a wheel with some offset to it, but if funds won't allow for this I get it. I've never had experience with that narrow of a tire, nor have I seen anyone run that set up. With a tire that narrow be sure to check that your stock wheels can hold a bead with a tire that size. Give the guys at BF Goodrich a call to get their thoughts on your sizing.
Thank you for this video. I have a 2020 4Runner Limited. I did some research on my on and I came across your video. If I understood your explanation correctly: 275/70/17 tires: Diameter: 32.16in Section Width (bulge to bulge) 10.83in Circumference: 101.03in Side Wall Height: 7.58in Speedometer difference: -1.70% (with this tire option my car would travel faster than what the speedometer is actually showing). Wheel Width Required: 7in to 8.5in Wheel Diameter: 17in This first option would not require any car body modifications or lift and the tires won’t rub if stock wheel offset and backspace is used (or if offset is a -8) and NO spacers are used. Is this accurate? Also, 285/70/17 tires won’t fit my car without trimming and body modification, correct?
Those Arsenal rims on the Tacoma are tight. I believe they are Arsenal? Anyhow, I just bought a forerunner fifth GEN and initially I was just gonna go grab some TRD’s and some 265s aggressive AT’s but when I started looking at other styles I immediately zoned in on those. Thanks for all the tips good stuff.
Great video, I’m running 16x8 Method 301,0n 265x75x16 Falken Wildpeak A/T3 -0 offset,no rub at all, even before the Bilstien 5100,2”lift up front, and guess what, both tires and rims were cheaper in the 16”😊
Keep the videos coming, great help. Own a 2016 Tacoma, per your other video, purchased TRD 17x 7, 285/70/17. 4mm offset. Can u at some time revisit and show how and what to trim to avoid rubbing.
@@firstnamelastname9661 I just got the runner in Dec so the hwy tires on it were pretty new still so discount tires bought them back at 60$ per. I got outta there a hair over 900$. Hope that helps
very nice review! just to check one thing in case I missed it. on stock trd offroad wheel (15mm offset, 7, 17), stock suspension, how about 255/80/17? will it rub
Just subbed because this was great info. Awesome. Qq. Just bought 2021 4Runner trail and have a set of ko2 285/70/17 I am getting 2.5 inch in front and 1.5 in rear. I think this will be enough to clear without any rubs. I’m your opinion and experience will I be ok or donia need to go higher.?? Thank you once again.
You're height is going to be just fine, that tire spec is just under 33". The most important factor for you will be to make sure you find a good off-road alignment tech. Also, not sure what wheel you're running, but a neutral or negative offset of some sort would be preferable. Best of luck man!
Great explaination. Appreciate it. I saw a and commented on the sema wheel. And I’m sold on the grey ones because my rig is magnetic grey. You mentioned - offset and the sema wheel is a +4. Does the sema wheel only come in a 17/7 or does it come in a 17/8. ? Will 17/7 work with a 275 17 70 set up with no rubbing? Other wise I’d have to go with a 265. ? Since my truck is a 2x4 I’ll probably never go past a 275 set up even if I do a 3 inch lift which was plan plan once I burned through my first set of tires around the 50k mile mark. Thanks Brad.
Hey man, unfortunately the widest the SEMA wheels goes is just the standard 17x7. With the 17x7 you'll be just fine running the 275/70/17 set up (I'm currently on the same combo). Keep in mind, you'll have some lite rubbing that you may want to remedy by taking a dremmel to the low clearance areas inside the wheel well. I hope this answers your question, let me know if not.
@@squaredawayeveryday Brad hey buddy quick question. I bought the fx pro wheel from fn wheels. It’s a Sema copy but a gloss matte gunmetal. Really sweet wheel. It’s actually a 17x8 with 0 offset. My truck will have no mud flaps. So could I run 275’s with no rubbing stock suspension? I’d rather have the wider tire than a 265 it would look way better a nicer stance. 265’s are 31.6 in diameter, but you mentioned that the 275 are 32.1. Not much difference there. Thanks Brad.
Best detailed video I've seen! I have a stock '21 SR with the ugly silver 16x7 steel wheels. I want to buy 17x8.5 0 offset wheels wrapped in Wildpeaks either 265/65 which are the same height as the stock tires, or 265/70s being about 1" taller. The store seems to think that these will rub due to the 0 offset. Are they correct?
Hey great video and channel, glad I subscribed. I just got 17x9.5 with -18 offset for my 19 Tacoma. I’m throwing about 3 inches of lift at it so I’m hoping it’ll work. Any thoughts on how my set up might look and if it’ll stick out too much? I chose the desert sand black rhino armory wheels. Thanks man!
Glad I found your channel, so much good information! I just bought a '21 tacoma TRD OR, I plan on doing a 2 inch lift in the future, but right now I want to start with just getting the tires and wheels. Is that smart or should I do it all at once? Also, I was told that a 265/75/r16 would be good for the BFG KO2's. I guess, what im curious about is, will the tires be too big without a lift, or too small once it's lifted. Id like to not have to do a second set of tires a few months down the road. Also, I know you're big on offset so something like -8 should be ok?
Hey man, thanks for subbing to the channel! If you're able to swing it, I would suggest doing the lift, wheels, and tires at the same time. I'm a big fan of renovating the kitchen right when you buy the house and enjoying it, as opposed to when you're half way through ownership; this is of course just an example. On that note, a -8 to -12ish offset should be great for you. Regarding the 265/75/16, this will definitely fit a stock rig. However if you plan to lift the vehicle by 2 inches the 265/75/16 might leave something to be desired size wise. Hope this helps!
I have that exact setup and it will look a little weird with the extra space. I plan on trying to go for 275/70/16 when these wear out to help fill in the space. I will say there is zero rubbing or bottoming out with 265/75/16 and a lift even when offroading hard
Great video! I have a 96 Toyota T100 4x4, currently on stock wheels and 31” tires. I like the black rhino armory wheels. How can I make it work. 17 inch wheels?
this was definitely really helpful. i'm for sure doing a lift on my 5th gen runner but for right now i just want to focus on getting the right wheels and tires.
Thanks for the info. I have a stock 2021 Tacoma and so if I went with the -10 offset and 275/75/17 setup, will that leave me sufficient room in the wheel well for off road without bottoming? Thanks again!
Hey man congrats on the new rig! You can do a 275/70/17, not the 275/75/17 you mentioned. If you're planning on running any moderate to hard trails I would probably dremmel the spots where you're rubbing, but it's not necessary.
Good video. Wish uiu would have added something on 20in wheels for Limited. Not ideal for offroad but would be nice to know if possible to upgrade without changing wheels.
Never understood why the TRD off road 4runner has a stock 7.5" wheel, but the pro is a 7". I'm keeping my stock wheels (19 TRD off road premuim). I also I bought another set off Craigslist for another choice of tire. Offset is +15mm, but when you calculate the extra .5 in width, it makes a very little difference on how far out they stand. It's actually 4mm, but you get a wider wheel overall
I have a 21 ORP on order and I’d also like to keep stock wheels. Do you think it’s possible to go with a 34inxh ridge grappler 285/75/17 on stock wheels and have a 12mm offset?
Just got my new 2021 4runner trd off road premium. your video was super detail. planning to run the stock tires for a while and go offroad some easy trails before upgrading the tires and lifting (need to save for it). Also the first preference is to get some rock sliders and front bumper and winch. Any suggestions on future mods. thank you, once again very helpful explanation.
Hey congrats on the new runner! You couldn't ask for a more reliable vehicle. If I were you I would prioritize tires, wheels, and suspension. I'd then move to upgrading your headlights, high beams, and fogs with some type of LED set up. From there a good set of sliders will benefit you greatly if you decide to start hitting harder trails. After all that, the world is your oyster! I'll be posting up a vid this next week on the steps to building an overlanding rig, that video may be helpful as well. Cheers man!
Very helpful, thanks. Through my research have found that not all 175/70 R17 have the same dimensions. For my stock 5th Gen 4Runner TRD Off-road Premium I really want to put on the 175/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks A/T3W. The diameter of the tire is 32.4, with the overall width of 11.1, which exceeds the dimensions that you recommended, although just by a bit. Am I pushing it to install this particular tire? Thoughts? Thanks!
This is a great channel with some great info! Got a question for you. I have a 21 ORP on order and was wondering if I could run stock wheels on the ridge grappler 285/75/17 tires with a 12mm offset? I really want 34 inch tires so if I can’t do it i’ll have to buy aftermarket wheels
Hey thanks for the sub. To run anything larger than a 33 you'll need a lift and some off-set. You can probably get a 33 to fit an un-modified vehicle, although if you ever plan to hit bumps, turn the vehicle, or dare I say do both at the same time you'll still need the lift and some additional wheel well space.
@@squaredawayeveryday oh yea def, I’m getting a OME bp-51 3inch kit. I was just curious if those tires would fit on stock WHEELS. My shop will do the body mount chop and additional trimming if necessary
So I just purchased a set of 4 ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2 - SIZE: LT265/70R17 The TREAD WIDTH is 8.7" Sec. Width is 10.7" for my OEM Toyota 17" wheels I also just purchased. My vehicle is 2015 4RUNNER Limited with 20" wheels to begin with (STOCK). Am I going to have any issues?
What should I run on my stock 3rd gen tacoma, 265 70 17 or 265 75 16? Mostly commuting to work w some off roading? I don't want to have to cut because of rubbing. Thanks.
little late seeing this video. I just got my 2020 SR5 4RUNNER. Do you think there will be alot of rubbing if i added a 3inch lift and got 285/70r17 tires?
No lift, 17x9 -12mm on a 4runner with 275s. How do you think that’ll work/look? I found a set of wheels that I like a lot but that’s the closest size they have compared to your suggestion
I have a ‘20 4runner Trail with kdss 3” lift Wheels size: 17X9 with -12 offset Which tire size should I run without rubbing ? I don’t mind rubbing on fender just don’t wanna do a BMC. Is 285 okay? Or should I go 275/70/17? Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video I have 2021 4Runner trd premium off road and I want to change my stock rims and tires and I want to put TRD rims and 275/70/r17 and I knw u mention it’s perfect combination my question is will it rub or do I need to do some modification which I’m trying to avoid because I like the stock suspension rides txs .
You may have some light rubbing at full crank on one of the wheels. The alignment tech has a lot to do with this. Either way, in my experience the rubbing has been superficial, meaning the fender could use some light Dremel work to remedy the rub. Hope this helps, congrats on the new rig!
Got a 21 tacoma sr 4x4 4 door. Putting on 4runner trd off road wheels 17x7.5 15mm offset. I was looking at running 255/75/17 which comes out to exactly 32.1inches. What are your thoughts ? From what i can tell there should be no rubbing
You can run a 285-70-17 on a Tacoma with a 3-2 lift without any issues...Or you can run a 285-75-16 on the same 3rd gen ....same tire width for both...tire height 1/8 in. taller with the 75 on 16 in addition more tire side wall for a better appearance and softer ride imo.
Any recommendations for a R20 tire? I've got a 2010 4Runner limited and Comes with 20 inch OE wheels which I really like and would like to stick to the same.
I know this is an old video but i am having a hard time finding a 17 " wheel at 8.5" with an offset. Most of the ones i find at 17" with 8.5" have zero offset. Would i be better to go at 9" with a negative offset or 8.5" with 0 offset ?
Having trouble locating BFG KO2s 275/70/17 for 2016 Tacoma with 17x7 4mm offset wheels. As far as rubbing, Would there be much of a difference with Falken Wildpeak?
Hey thanks man! This is a good question, unfortunately one that I'm not qualified to answer. I would check out some of the forums online to see what guys are running. Don't hesitate to reach out with additional questions though.
Hi I'm A New Subscriber and I Hot the LIKE 👍Button , let see if I Understood I Have a 5th Gen 4Runner 2020 sr5 I Can Fit A 275/70/17 tires on A 17 inch Wheel Trd No Offset?with minor rubbing
Hello, I just watched ur video. I was wondering if you can answer my questions. I have a stock 2021 SR Tacoma with no upgrades on suspension. Would I be able to run a Method 17x8.5 (no offset) wheels with 275/70/17 tires? I don’t really do much off-roading but mainly commuting. Would this work with no rubbing. Would u recommend to upgrade my suspension with this set-up? Thanks in advance.
No spacer comment makes me trust this video beyond extent. Wish the 4x4 world understood how bad spacers are, and how AWFUL cheap spacers are. they look good but basically give you a one way ticket to replacing suspension components two years down the road
Hey I’m sorry to bother u again quick question so I talk to the Toyota dealer from parts and I ask I wanted to get trd rims and tires bfg ko2 ok so this is what he said to me what I needed he was selling me the the tires sensor or called TPMS and he said I can’t use my stock sensors is that truth or is he making money off me and he said it might not be compatible bcuz I’m making my rig to trd pro look like and his charging me $2500 for everything rims ,tires, and sensor and installation is that a decent price or pls let me knw what’s the best thing to do sorry again.
i've got 5th gen 4Runner limited with 20 inch wheels. I need to replace my tires now and have been seriously thinking KO2s. Has anyone done it? Ive seen forums where they've upgraded the tires as wide as 275/55 but different brand but i wanted to ask someone or anyone for any advice.
There are few tires sizes you can actually throw on the limited 20's (safely). This is because the factory limited wheels are so narrow, long story short; the K02 does not come in a size that would fit that wheel.
That should be a very similar overall size to the 17" set up I mention in this video. Again, you may have some light rubbing at full crank, but in my opinion it's nothing to write home about. Hope that helps!
No, those are 33" tires (31" is the most you can do stock) and will rub a lot. It probably won't look right either. Remember, bigger isn't always better. -4Runner owner
Nice video but the title was about largest tires for a stock 4 Runner. Not sure you answered that question. Not looking for spacers, wheel offsets or loft kits. Otherwise good video.
Im looking at this set up on my 21 tacoma. Im putting 4runner trd offroad wheels on it, which are 17x7.5 with a 15mm offset. And was planning on going with a 255/75/17 tire. Im just worried about rubbing and trying to see if anyone else is running the same thing
You scared me for a minute there. The best way is to just put it at full crank both ways, mark the lowest clearance spots with chalk, and get the dremmel out. Glad the video was helpful, thanks for checking out the channel.
