Obviously, Pima County's fire departments are not sufficiently equipped and/or manned to have combated it even before it grew this big, while private, state and federal assistance were way too small before the fire covered > 117,000 acres. Pima certainly caught a serious break with monsoon rains. Even though it was lightning that caused it, human-driven climate change will only make wildfires more numerous, intense and take longer to extinguish, threatening countless homes and wildlife in the process. My plans to retire to beautiful AZ, literally up in smoke.
That mountaintop is still completely wrecked from the Bullock and Aspen fires. At least the fuel load was low enough that the town could be saved this time.
Hats off to the Fort Apache Fuels Crew and Fort Apache Hotshots. They put in a huge saw line size of a 4 lane to 2 lane road. The Fuel Reduction was next to the homes of summerhaven it was conducted in November of last year.
I live in Tucson and worked on base for 20 years, I know DMAB well. I know exactly where the fire is and have many friends in that area. I also have some friends on Mt Lemmon. I have been in Tucson since 1970. It is a terrible thing to see since many people lost their homes and businesses in the last fire that went thru Mt Lemmon. They need our prayers. God bless
