Onyx Boox has their Boox Super Refresh (BSR) and Bigme has their Auto Clean technology. Both technologies are meant to enhance the refresh performance and image quality (less ghosting) of its e-ink e-reader devices. A series of powerful hardware and software enhancements makes it possible on modern ebook readers like the Onyx Boox Palma and the Bigme B751c I use in this video. After using these two e-readers daily for a while, I believe one is better than the other but to the cost of battery life. These super refresh technologies drains the battery a lot more than just use the normal HD modes on your e-reader. Yes they get a lot snappier and faster but you get worse battery life. So I recommend to use only BSR when you need it and to use the slowest mode (HD) for normal reading in a dedicated reading app like KOReader. But apps like Storytel, Bookbeat and Nextory needs Super Refresh modes to be usable even for normal reading because they are heavy apps with a lot of graphics and animations. Apps like Web Browsers, Reddit and social media works better with BSR too.
