This is the one you want. I started this tune from another tutorial that was an easier start but clearly not accurate. Had to unlearn a bunch to take advantage of this much much more accurate and much better overall tutorial. If you want to learn Bigmouth, do yourself a favor and start here and learn it right the first time. The only way you’re going to get it more accurate is to have Johnny teach it to you himself.
Bigmouth popped up in a playlist and I started laughing at Joan and her walkman. Then I went searching for lesson, watched 5 then found this one, which is awesome! Thanks, now I'm off to playing along with Johnny. Have a great day, subscribed and checking out your other videos.
Incredibly accurate guitar lesson for this and taught very well! Very useful for someone like me who is obsessed with playing songs as close as possible to the studio recording lol! Thanks!
I never EVER thought i would get remotely close after trying this years ago. The solo seem faster than my mind could shift my hands, but i am getting it Thank you 😊
Great work! All through my teens, I never twigged on using a capo for any of The Smiths and wondered why I could never get it and just put it down to being "hard". I've returned to the guitar at 42 and made a point of actually learning these songs now, which is so much easier thanks to people like you. Tabs never sounded right, but I think the key to Marr is understanding the chords, rather than individual notes. You then start to see that he uses similar shapes and patterns throughout all those songs.
He uses the capo live a lot but also a lot of The Smiths songs were originally recorded one whole step up from standard. Barbarism Begins At Home is one.
Great tutorial thanks for that. You laid that down as clear as day. Just need to up to speed now. The solo is part is great and sounds so much better than other tutorials I've watched. Cheers again for your time and effort
I'd DIE for you to give bass lessons on some of your songs also :c But anyway I fell in LOVE with your channel dude ! You're AWESOME ! Keep on the FANTASTIC job ! =D
I love the smith's never knew who they were till I was in the service in the Golf and this dude lent me a tape of the smith's not a cd I played these songs over and over he had to track me down and to get his tape back I played some guitar but when I got home from service it was either party or quit but what can I do life sucks don't F$#k with me attitude then I said guitar that's it again but I put it down then I got serious now there are cell phones and RU-vid and boom I found the Wizzard I have progressed 90 % with this song and charming man they are part of my gig list I am sold out my vision is strong I'm a happy camper there is no shame in my game we're forming a group it is nice music is my third language thank you my friend The Wizard..you can play and instruct if you go to fast I'll slow you down with RU-vid speed control settings ..Rock on thanks for liking my words there true just like you..Roland J Gutierrez a.k.a.RocknRollflat5 or sharp 5 depends on the mood...from Magdalena New Mexico USA 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
Love it! ( I HAVE been playing it wrong, but Johnny would have said I was 'Getting away with it') I really need to be more disciplined with my playing, some Friends are starting out playing and they are in their 50's (same as me) , they will never catch me up, but I really need to up my game! Many thanks dx
That was awsome mate u and Jonny Mar have a great inner met 👍 ill try but I'm not much of a guitarist like NG good at writing 😅 I'm a typical struggling musician and songwriter so skint but I'll subscribe ASAP 😂😊
yeah awesome vid you got another like on the vid and you also gained a subcriber out of me. Thank you for actually teaching the correct way to play the solo and all of the correct nuances of the picking patterns throughout the whole song. Before this vid I could play the song but basically I was playing the easy way without all the nuances that you taught. So thanks again and keep the vids coming! You should def do more smiths songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No prob man and yeah Johnny Marr is just unbelievable. He is the definition of a musical genius! If you make more Smiths covers or lessons that would also be amazing because if there's anybody that is going to play the correct way Johnny plays on record it's gunna be you
Hi mate two questions first on the verse part are using delay? if so what type (slap back?) and second on the solo are u using overdrive? Would really appreciate if you could get back to me on this one. Have a great day
Great tutorial! I learnt the first bit of the intro fine at full speed but I'm really struggling with the second bit going from open Am to F major then to that weird G chord. It's a chord progression I find very strange. I can play it really slowly but unless it's at full speed it doesn't sound like what I'm trying to play and I can't understand the rhythm properly. Any tips?
I've closely watched all the live versions (both from the Smiths era and from Johnny's more recent performances) on slow speed and listened carefully to what he plays. It's true the 2nd string tones stand out more than those on the 3rd and 4th during the solo part, but this is an effect of the upstroke, which starts on the 2nd string. You can see on the more recent performances that his fingers form the very same triad and chord shapes taught in this tutorial. In fact, you simply could not really play the entire riff on only the 2nd string. As far as my ears and eyes can make out, this tutorial is amazingly correct.
thehomefront I do extensive research before making a tutorial. Go to 3 minutes 24 seconds in this video and watch the man himself. This was my original source to then work out the rest by ear... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NFbo58jcyi8.html 🤘🏻😎
Yep, Sped's pretty amazing. I try not to be jealous and just motivate myself to practice more. Feel your pain though, I've been practicing the acoustic guitar parts for 'William it was really nothing' for a very long time now, and I still can not get some of the chord changes up to track speed. (My neighbours must hate me.)
Fabio Fender I was asking you. 🤣 It’s so long ago now I can’t remember the exact settings however I do mention what pedals I’m using in the video description. Strymon BigSky and Timeline. Also, if I’m ever using chorus it’ll be the Visual Sounds Liquid.
