Just got my Beyond today and this video was SUPER helpful, thank you. There's a lot to love about the Beyond coming from Index, but yeah, the glare and sweet spot issues were reeally bumming me out. Repositioning the HMD on the eyebrows definitely helped. It's going to take some getting used to. The head pad you recommend is sold out on amazon at the moment. I pre-ordered the Beyond audio strap, will be curious to hear what you have to say about that when it comes out.
The moment I get the audio head strap I will be adding it to the headset and trying it out. I will make a video on that as quick as possible (most likely same day, but later on that day). Glad my video helped you. The more you wear the headset the more you'll love it. Trust me. It really is the best PCVR headset on the market right now.
What are you running on the PC side? How is your head room? Is an I7 with a RTX 4070ti enough for the typical HL Alyx, Population one type of games. Also with the headset on the eyebrows does it eliminate the glare or just reduce it? Thanks
I have an Intel 13900k and a 4090 GPU. Your 4070ti will be more than enough. As far as the wearing the headset. Keeping the top of he face gasket on your brow is how it should be worn. The glare is a pancake lenses issue and will be there no matter what. However, when you wear the headset in the correct place the glare is on the bottom of your vision so it isn't very noticeable in most scenarios. What I have been able to do (because of the small form factor and minimal weight of the headset) is move my head quicker instead of moving my eyes and I am always in the sweet spot and have the best clarity.
Great information, I feel much better about my pre-order now! Have you tried USB-C audio yet? I was planning on a USB-C to 3.5mm and using short cabled earbuds (from Vive pro?). Thanks again!
I have the USB C to 3.5mm dongle from Apple and it works with my SteelSeries headphones perfectly. Because the headphones were almost wireless i choose the wireless option, but wired works great with that dongle.
All of this seems to be way too much of a hastle for the fact that it's 1300€ here in europe. Let alone basestations & controllers, which would make it almost 2000€
I totally understand. I feel like the Bigscreen Beyond is for people who already have controllers and lighthouses. The rest of the people can get their Meta Quest 3 nd be happy with that. I am a big fan of PCVR gaming and have been a PCVR gamer since 2016 with the OG Vive. So it makes sense for me to get the Beyond. I get it that the cost of the device, lighthouses and controllers will price out many VR people when there are other products which are cheaper and not as good, but almost as good..
The FOV is exactly as advertised in my case. I didn’t notice a decrease in my FOV than what I am used to in my Vive Pro and my Quest Pro. As far as picture quality… once you’re in the sweet spot it is amazing. In my experience the picture image/quality is perfect in the middle, but does degrade around the edges of the display. While playing Onward (a mil sim for game) I didn’t really notice much glare or distortions while playing. I hope that answered the question for you. I will be making more videos about the Beyond and types of lenses within the next few days
I plan on doing a video this week. I just moved into a new house (sold my old house as well) so that took up basically all of my time the last few months so doing videos had to take a backseat. Now that I am all moved in and settled I will start videos again.
I just checked. On my SteamVR setting at 100% the resolution per eye says 2688x2688. I have a 4090 graphics card and I am doing 150% supersampling and that says 3292x3292. I hope this helps.
Honestly, I don't know. I would think it would be fine, BUT youy might not get the full resolution. I would get onto the Bigscreen Beyond discord and ask a mod in there. They would know best.
had to scroll a bit to find an actual user doing a review and not the usual "they send me this for free but im totally neutral" ones. Thanks for making this!
That's what I am here for. I wanted to let know really know about the device because it is such a cool device and different. I really wanted to give people a real sense of the device and the pros and cons. Thank you for watching!
have that strap piece as well for my q2, seems like a no-brainer to just switch it over to the bb and yet i really needed you to tell me it works for it as well haha saved me from upgrading the strap unnecessarily
Is it worth buying a pc and the base station and controllers and the beyond? I think my quest 2 is too heavy and lack performance .. I love vr and want the best experience Thank you for great vids
That really depends on how much VR gaming you’re doing. If you’re already in the Meta universe you might want to consider the Quest 3. It will be a BIg jump in clarity and optics from the Quest 2. I personally have a Quest Pro and the optics and sweet spot is amazing. I think the Bigscreen Beyond is a headset for people already in the SteamVR ecosystem and already have a PC and lighthouses and controllers. I couldn’t in good faith tell someone to buy this headset, lighthouses, controllers and a gaming PC when the Quest 3 is an option at only $500. A good upgrade for you would be: Quest 3 and possibly the Quest Pro controllers (they track REALLY well). Down the road if you want to get a PC you can always do air link, or virtual desktop and get the FULL potential of the Quest 3.
@@gamer.z3ro i get what you saying! Its such a big investment for me. Let’s wait and see what u guys think of the quest 3. I mean it will take a year for everything new to start working on the quest 3. If you could only chose one vr setup what would it be? I love vr and would love to spend more time in games and bigscreen. Btw thank you so much for sharing you knowledge! You know exactly what the vr market needs and wants
@@Dr-easy its worth having gaming pc with Beyond especially upcoming Praydog's UE 4 and UE 5 vr injector mod. Im building pc just for that mod. I gave up on Sony and Meta since they only rely on low budget indie game developers.
@@Dr-easy, So even though I didn't buy a Quest 3 yet... A few of my teammates have and they LOVE it. One of my teammates has a Varjo Aero and is actually preferring the Quest 3 over the Varjo. If you want the best all around headset I would actually do the Quest 3 and maybe get the Pro controllers. Everything looks great in PCVR mode and look MUCH better than the Quest 2 in stand alone mode. Use the Q3 controllers first and if you need to switch for better overall tracking get the Pro at that time. I am waiting to get a Quest 3 because I want all of the accessories the day I start using. I want a great BoboVR head strap and get a nice facial interface and a fan to help keep airflow and stay a bit cooler. I am waiting on those accessories to be released before I make my purchase.
@@gamer.z3ro okej thank you for the tip! I heard that you can use q3 without the face mask when you have the bobovr m3 I just have a weak neck and when i was in big screen lots of people where complaining of the weight pressing on the head
What do you think about open ear high end headphones? I am buying a pair of BeyerDynamic DT 1990's soon.. figured those + this VR will be amazing for games, movies, etc. Thanks for strap recommendation. I ordered what you linked.
Headphones are a personal thing. I personally go between my SteelSeries over ear headphones and my Oladance on ear stereo "speakers" (basically a mix bewteen earbuds and headphones). Really just depends on you needs/wants. Those should sound amazing though. With headphones like that and my SteelSeries, it will get hotter faster. Just I play 3-4 hours and it's not bad at all.
Eventually you can buy a second face gasket, but that will be either in Q4 of this year or Q1 for next year. Not sure of the price, yet. It is not available on the website as of this reply.
I saw the Tested youtube channel review and Norm did the through the lense video and glare was everwhere(almost entire screen was washed out by glare). Do you think thats reflection from his camera when he recording it or is that a normal glare from Beyond. I hope its not true otherwise theres no point to have oled screen that is washed out by glare.
I would believe that the glare from the through the lens video is not how the headset looks when on your face and in the right position. When I first used the headset it was slightly higher on my face and the glare was everywhere. Once I had the headset in the correct position on my face the glare is only slightly visible on the lower part of the lens when you look straight down.
@@gamer.z3ro when you said glare is only on lower part, do you see glare every single time on any games when you look on lower part or only high contrast and dark area like Quest 2? Thank for answering.
@@ji3200, sorry I didn't see this comment sooner. So, you see the glare all the time. It is just not as pronounced in day time maps/games as it is in dark maps/games. The glare that I see on my headset is almost like a gray cloud in my lower vision.
The sweet spot isn’t bad, but it isn’t edge to edge. There is a some glare when watch movies in the Bigscreen app. It isn’t bad or anything but you can see a little bit on the lower part of the lens and minor on the top. I would still recommend this headset as an upgrade to almost any headset available prior to this being released.
Honestly, I think the Quest 3 will be the best headset in the world when it is released. The reason I say that I will go over in a future video, but honestly if you're already invested in the Lighthouse ecosystem and want that perfect tracking the Bigscreen Beyond is the way to go. If you can deal with the tracking issues Quests have, the Quest 3 is a great choice.
Honestly, I have a filing cabinet behind me in the video... that is where I keep all of my headsets an controllers. They just sit up there. I do that so they are away from any windows so the lenses don't get messed up by the sun.
I just received my beyond yesterday, and this video rang quite true. I haven’t quite got the headset in a position on my face where it feels perfect yet, and I think that is hindering the sweet spot. I’m going to try wearing the headset a bit differently after watching this.
@@gamer.z3ro you are right, the more I use the headset, the more I enjoy it! I’ve heard that asking BSB support for a thinner gasket is an option, so I’ve done that and hoping that helps improve the horizontal FOV a bit, as that’s my only real complaint, you really have to look with head movement vs your eyes as the sweetspot isn’t massive. That, and I guess the glare? The glare almost looks like smudging within the optic layers, but it’s not TOO bad, but is a bit annoying.
The Amazon link used to have both colors. I an guessing too many people bought the black one and they only have the Grey/white one left at this moment.
For $12, I think I would go with something properly finished and the right amount of flexible. Also given the curves and the supports required there would be some trimming/sanding involved. I love my 3D printer, but I can't see the effort over something that inexpensive.
Thanks for your review, how bad is the glare? and also what really worries me is the edge to edge clarity, I don't want to have a similar (terrible) experience like the one I had with the Reverb G2. Currently using a Quest 2 and not sure if I was lucky but the edge to edge clarity is great. I had the Aero and getting the Quest 3 next week, so not sure if the e2e clarity of the Beyond will let me down in comparison.
He already mentioned in the video that once you are in the sweet spot, its perfect and even sadlybradly said that too. My main concern is GLARE. I don't want my entire screen to be washed out with glare especially with this beutiful oled screen
The Bigscreen e2e clarity does fall off around the edges. However, when I am playing in my league matches in Onward I seriously don't notice the glare or the clarity dropping off at all. And I am laser focused on trying to spot the enemies at a distance so to not see glare or anything off is huge for me. The Aero is an excellent headset. I had one for about a week and returned it because the FOV was terrible. I also didn't like the color red and blue and how it was in the headset. The Quest 3 will have the best lenses. The e2e clarity is the best in the business. In my opinion the Quest 3 will be the best headset in the world because of the e2e clarity, the amount of aftermarket stuff for it, it can be stand alone and PCVR. However, I will still use the Bigscreen Beyond as my daily headset because of the small and light form factor and better overall resolution.
@@gamer.z3ro One question, do you really need the Valve accessories for the Bigscreen to work? Nobody else is talking about that and I wasn't aware of the requirement so I haven't even set up my Bigscreen yet.
@@weakbruteforce, for the Bigscreen to work you'll need at least 1 lighthouse for tracking. If you're doing sim racing you can get away with using 1 lughthouse. I highly recommend 2+ lighthouse for any roomscale VR stuff. Then you'll need controllers. Majority of the people have either the Vive wands or the Valve Knuckles controllers, but any of the SteamVR controllers will work and are needed.
Great info about fitment thanks! I race with the Pimax Crystal and it's amazing clarity but something small like the Beyond would be nice...just waiting for my order :). 100% agree with you on the Quest Pro (and hopefully Quest 3) lenses. The Pro is still my go to daily driver at this point.
So, I will say that your Pimax Crystal will have better clarity and their lenses don't have any of the glare. Even with the Quest Pro and Quest 3... the glare won't be there and the edge to edge clarity will be better. The whole reason anyone should be buying the Bigscreen Beyond is an upgrade for their current Lighthouse tracked headset (Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2, Valve Index, etc.) and they want a headset that is lightweight, small and compact. This headset still has it's flaws such as the glare and lack of audio solution built in. The audio strap will cover one of those issues, but the glare is still there and will always be there. If you can live with it, great. I know I can live with it.
@@gamer.z3rohello, I ordered Quest 3, I wanna play pcvr games but my question BSB is good compared to quest 3? I am confused (I just wanna make one time investment that worth to vr) thank you (I haven’t had VR headset but will have quest 3 next week, should I cancel it and by BSB vr headset? I AM REALLY CONFUSED (I read Reddit comments saying BSB is even better than areo headset)??
The Quest 3 is going to be a fantastic buy. It is the cheapest option to get into VR and PCVR. The Quest 3 is great. If you were to buy the Bigscreen Beyond you'll also need at least 2 lighthouses and controllers so that is an additional $500-$600 on top of the BSB cost. The only downside to the Quest 3 is battery life and lack of great options at this moment. I know within a few weeks/months there will be a ton more options for external batteries and such. For me the winner is the Bigscreen Beyond, but I also already owned Vive controllers and Index controllers and 4 lighthouses. I also love that the headset is super light weight and the clarity is better.
@@gamer.z3ro thank you very much for answering, as I understand if price has no issue, BSB would be a winner over quest 3) I think to use quest 3 a few days and sell it and buy BSB probably just for one investment:) Greetings from Turkey btw.):):)😉🫶🏻
@@gamer.z3ro Hello, one more question, do you think it is worth to buy BSB’s audio strap? Or 3.5 mm iPhone jack is totally enough? (Because I wanna know whether to buy BSB’s original audio strap or just using my headphone?) thank you
