It took me 3 weeks of spare time and mostly discarded items to build this awesome lightweight bike camper trailer, I'll do a follow up video in the next day or so explaining what items were used and in which way they were used to complete this project .

Hi Adam , thank you for your compliment , I wanted to make sure it was not too difficult to tow and on my first trip I rode 50 klms before I stopped for the evening along side a country stream . It is quite comfortable and water proof thankfully as it rains for a few hours during the night , im designing a more compact and folding trailer this summer and I'll be sure to post a video or two .

LOL! Wind resistance is important. I have one of those retail bike trailers and it feels like dragging a piano sometimes. It would be so cool to be able to sleep in there. Go to a party and stay over. 😉

Great design. I would use a ebike to pull the load and flex solar panels to power it from the trailer.
@highenergyog
@highenergyog 5 лет назад
An E-Bike would have made my trip somewhat easier , after 100 klms ( 60 miles to my American friends) I was quite tired . Thanks for your comment and I like the idea of Solar power, perhaps I'll implement a few panels in the design I'm working on for my new trailer.

Well I made it to my destination a few hours later than I had planned to take , there were many more hills to climb than I had expected and 80% of my riding surface was gravel. I enjoyed my stay and will do a few return trips before the end of this season .

These type of bike camper trailers are okay as long as you have a place or space to keep them when your not using it. Myself I prefer a camper that I can fold up and put under my kitchen table. that sits 4 people. I've seen a couple a little like one I hope to build on a $60 a month budget. My 180 Lb capacity Aosom cargo trailer has solar panels to recharge my 24 volt battery pack on my eZip Trailz electric bike. I can recharge my phone and run a DC air pump off the controller regulator,and power my head and tail lights or power my camper trailer lights. I can lay my panels down in the bed of my trailer and fold down the sides and remove the wheels and fit it under my kitchen table. A couple tarps, nylon rope, tent stakes and a trailer load of corrugated plastic election signs would be useful to building many light weight camper trailer parts.
@highenergyog
@highenergyog 6 лет назад
Polk Native you are correct in saying that this type of trailer is difficult to store for the winter , I've stored mine on my back deck and my girlfriend is a little ticked that it's there . I'm in the planning process of building a folding bike camper with solar power such as the one you have described. Thanks again for commenting .

Take a look at the speedway motor cycle cover shelter how it's designed to unfold. If you could build a frame like it out of PVC pipe with sections that come apart it could be cheap to build and sell like hot cakes because it's portable and can be stored in a small area.

A smaller lighter trailer is capable of carrying tons of great camping gear...tent, cots, BBQ, etc...why sleep in a coffin?
@highenergyog
@highenergyog 2 года назад
This very lightweight trailer is constructed from an Aluminum frame as well as the entire shell is constructed from lightweight corrugated plastics , the trailer weighs 31 pounds and I’ve already visited many small towns out in the country and camped along streams and wonderful points of view. As far as being a “coffin” , lol it’s extremely comfortable and spacious. Thank you for your comment and I wish you a pleasant day.

How did you support the wheel axles?
@highenergyog

I simply had cut a I/2 inch in diameter metal rod and drilled holes for the pins , I then used 4 u-bolts to secure the axel .

@highenergyog
@highenergyog 6 лет назад
I have camped out in this trailer a few times last summer and I took it on a long trip to a little town here in Ontario called Paris , its located about 60 miles from my home . On my 3rd and last trip the trailer was stolen from where I was camped while I went into town to purchase a few items I needed for my camping spot . I did locate what was remaining of my trailer about 5 miles downstream, whoever took it stripped it of the wheels and towing system but it was in such bad condition and it was not salvageable. I have a few videos of its maiden voyage as well as the first place I took it to , I will upload those videos in a few days . I am also building a new trailer and I will do videos showing the process and the finished project with in the next few weeks . Thank you very much for your comments and questions . Best regards from Lloyd way up here in Ontario Canada.

Thanks for the information. So you left it for a little while and someone stole it and destroyed it. That really stinks. I mean that really stinks. People say we need to get rid of the death penalty, it looks to me like we need to make it apply to many more behaviors than just murder. People might start to have some respect for others and their stuff.

How does weight in the front do? I want to make one for landscaping and would love to make one.
@highenergyog
@highenergyog 5 лет назад
It weighs approximately 30 pounds and was a little heavier in the front end than it was in the rear , when I packed it for my trip I put more items in the rear to balance the trailer out. Thanks for the questions and good luck with the landscape project.

mason kutnar hi Mason . I towed it behind my mountain bike for 8 hours to get to a little town called Paris .( Ontario). It's a single person camper trailer and it was quite comfortable sleeping inside, I stayed for a few days before making my way back home . Over the winter I will be designing a few more trailers to take camping next summer . I have a few short videos of my trip and will be uploading them in the next day or two . Thanks for watching and thanks for the question .
